Chapter 39 - ~ Infant Curse ~

Henry Sage hummed as he sized the curse up with his blue glowing eyes. He was observing the corruptive aura around it. It was a very hard chore though, as he felt his own Mana Aura getting intoxicated in the process. He took a few breaks at intervals.

He wasn't a Soul Gazer, but he seldom checked the level of mana within it, to know if any of Bertram's attacks were dealing any damage.

Some of its Mana would deplete at a point, only to refuel itself at a whim.

Henry didn't find it odd at first, as curses were known to have a deep Mana Reserve. However, as soon as the Curse began to rain down spikes on Bertram, Henry noticed something odd.

His brows slowly arched down as he forced himself to peer deeper into the Curse's metaphysical physiology. This was a very risky gamble he was taking.

For one, he wasn't a Soul Gazer that could easily do this with very little effort. Not only would his Mana deplete rapidly, he could end up getting trapped in the Curse's soul or mind and go insane.

Also, this was a curse that brimmed with corruption. The process could corrupt his soul and Mana, causing a rotting death.

But luck was on his side that day. He quickly found what he was looking for and shut his inner eyes, bringing himself back to reality.

He had seen threads of foreign Mana flowing into the curse from the ground in multitudes, crystallizing in its core to give it more power.

At that moment, Henry Sage attained a state of enlightenment, "I found its weakness."

...

Getting frustrated by the seamlessly endless hurl of spikes at him, Bertram Beaumont shot straight into the air and surveyed the village below.

He could see Kaiser and Aldous getting closer to the curse from behind, while Henry was running up the stairs of a two-storey building. Flynn was on one knee, his palm glued to the ground.

Bertram soon began to descend at gravity's call, the wind constricted inside the dome lashing noisily against his taut body.

He clasped his hands together as he recited a chant with a deep voice, "O ye Agramorth, All Father of Might, Behemoth of Power, I call upon your prodigious Grace and sustenance. Show the earth that from you, it came, and without you, it shall cease to exist. Let it answer to my descent!"

With a whirring sound, the holy seal around him flared brightly, mixing with his own green Mana that seeped out of him.

He fisted his right hand once again as the ground came in proximity. With a wild boom, he made a touchdown with his fist and knee, birthing an omnidirectional wave of purity and destruction. Two contrary concepts that now worked as one.

The spikes burst into nothing, the structures nearby collapsed to ruins, the curse itself was blown away by the sporadic wave, decimating any structure in its path for almost a mile, leaving a trail of nothing but rubble and debris.

Kaiser had to quickly plunge himself and Aldous into his shadow before they got caught up in the wave.

Flynn wasn't so lucky. He got yeeted away and was only stopped by the brick wall of a bakery.

Henry Sage had no choice but to leap upwards as high as he could, allowing the wave to roll underneath him. Sure, his Mage Path was passive, but he still had the base agility of a Mage.

As he descended with flaying hands, he could see the threads of Mana that flowed out of the ground, latching tight onto the curse's core, even with the distance between them.

He landed in a crouch and immediately threw himself to a forward roll, to cushion the hard fall.

He sprang to his feet almost immediately and rushed towards Kaiser and Aldous, who had come out of the shadow, at the other side of the outflowing Mana.

Henry made sure to circle around the spot and stopped before the two men. Breathing quickly to catch his breath, he managed to say, "There's a reason why it won't leave this spot. Or rather, it can't. I don't know how it happened but... The Mana and bodies of all its victims are rooted here. It usurps them to gain more power."

Kaiser and Aldous looked over at the spot with squinted eyes. They could only see a few distortions in the air. Only people like Henry could see it vividly.

"That's not all," Flynn said as he walked up to them, dusting the rubble off his cape.

The other three looked at him with puzzled eyes. How he got to them so fast was a mystery. And didn't he puncture a brick wall just a moment ago?

He ignored their questioning eyes and raised his rusted trinket towards the spot with outflowing Mana, "This is the Curse's birthplace. It is yet to absorb all the required nutrients to become fully born and manifested."

"Wait..." Prince Kaiser interrupted, his eyes gradually dilating. "If it's still in the process of being born, does that mean...?"

Flynn White nodded solemnly, "Yes. It is still a cursed womb."
