Chereads / FINDING LOVE AGAIN / Chapter 11 - 11

Chapter 11 - 11

The morning sunlight streamed through the curtains, casting a warm glow in the living room where Maya and Ryan found themselves with an unexpected day off. Madison would return from school at 3 pm, and Liam would be back from work by 7 pm. Maya, seizing the opportunity for quality time, suggested various activities to bond with her son.

As they sat on the cozy living room floor, a board game laid out between them, Ryan's eyes lit up with excitement. "Mom," he began, his voice filled with anticipation, "Christmas is just around the corner. Did you write to Santa?"

Maya chuckled, her eyes dancing with fondness. "Well, sweetheart, I think Santa's busy with kids' wishes. But speaking of wishes, what's on your Christmas list?"

Ryan's face lit up with a mischievous grin. "I'll tell Santa that I wish for a new papa for Christmas."

Maya was taken aback, her eyes widening in surprise. "Oh, Ryan," she exclaimed softly, "I wasn't expecting that."

Ryan looked at her with sincerity, his innocent eyes reflecting a longing that tugged at Maya's heart. "Let's hope Santa grants your present," she said, her voice tender.

"Okay, Mommy," Ryan replied, accepting her comforting words. She pulled him into a tight hug, tears welling up in her eyes. "Everything is going to be alright," she whispered, her embrace conveying a mother's reassurance.

Ryan nodded and smiled, his small hand patting her back. "You're so strong, Mommy."

"Thank you, my love," Maya responded, wiping away a tear. "I have to be strong for both of us."

Their conversation shifted into a heartfelt mother-to-son dialogue, delving into dreams, fears, and the unbreakable bond they shared. Maya listened intently, cherishing each moment as they connected on a deeper level.

As the afternoon progressed, the activities seemed to take a toll on young Ryan. His eyelids grew heavy, and eventually, he succumbed to a peaceful slumber. Maya, watching him sleep, felt a mixture of love and protective warmth. She carefully drew a soft blanket over his small form and sat beside him, gently running her fingers through his hair.

With Ryan asleep, the house settled into a quiet lull. Maya, feeling a mix of emotions, decided to pass the time by reaching out to Mr_Perfect. She picked up her phone and sent her usual "Hey," followed by a question about his work.

About 10 minutes later, a response popped up on her screen. "Just concluded a meeting. Been working tirelessly. How about you?"

Maya smiled as she replied, "Took a break from work. Spending time with my son. He's asleep now."

"Lucky you," came Mr_Perfect's response.

Confused, Maya asked, "What do you mean?"

"Unlike you, I'm bombarded with work and I barely have spare time. Only at nights and in between work," he explained, punctuating his words with a laughing emoji.

Maya nodded in understanding. "True. But we do our best, right?"

"Absolutely," he agreed. The conversation flowed seamlessly as they shared stories, perspectives, and the challenges of being single parents.

Unable to resist, Maya decided to confide in him about Ryan's Christmas wish. "My son wishes for a new papa. He's hoping Santa grants his present by Christmas."

Mr_Perfect responded with a laughing emoji. "Kids and their wishes. I hope he finds joy in whatever comes his way."

As they continued chatting, Mr_Perfect suddenly mentioned, "I have to go. Something urgent at work. I'll text you later in the day."

"Sure, take care," Maya replied.

With the conversation concluded, Maya found herself alone in the quiet room. She sat there, surrounded by the hushed stillness, contemplating the day's events and the deep connection she shared with her son. The clock ticked away, marking the passage of time until Madison's return from school and Liam's arrival from work. In that serene moment, Maya couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the moments of love and connection that had woven through the fabric of their day.
