Chapter 14 - Chapter 14

Priscilla's POV

Ella and I waited for Alaric because there was nothing we could do until he arrived.

We heard a twig break and we hurriedly turned to the place where we heard the sound.

"Calm down ladies it's just me, no need to get all work up." Alaric rolled his eyes.

"Took you long enough," I said.

"I couldn't possibly do anything on an empty stomach so I stopped by your dinner and ordered takeout. You want some." He asked, stretching a plastic bag at me.

"Alaric?" Ella asked in surprise.

"Sheriff is such a surprise to see you here." Alaric smiles nervously.

"Detective! What are you doing here? You're supposed to be working on that animal case." Ella frowned.

"You didn't tell my boss here" He whispered to me while I rolled my eyes then he turned back to Ella.

"Mrs Smith asked me to find her missing child as a detective finding people is what I do," Alaric said with a hint of pride.

"I will deal with you later." Ella exhaled and she turned to me "Is Alaric a werewolf?" She asked curiously.

I couldn't hold my laughter, I couldn't possibly imagine Alaric being a werewolf.

"Werewolf? How dare you compare me to such a lowly beast." Alaric pretended to be hurt.

"What are you then?" She asked.

"I'm a druid.."

"As in like a witch." She chipped in.

"No, I'm not a witch. Druids are more a tune with nature than witches. They focus on harnessing the power of nature. While witches are magic practitioners who drive their powers from spells, potions, and rituals. So there's a difference." Alaric said to Ella.

"I'm going to pretend I just understand what you just said." She replied.

"I called you here to help me find Miles, not chit-chat." I glared at Alaric crossing my arms.

"Right. Where was the last place you saw him?" Alaric asked taking a bite from his bagel.

I pointed in the direction and he walked over to examine the footprints.

"So can you find him?" I asked impatiently after waiting for minutes and still to respond from Alaric.

"Miles didn't disappear he was taken through a portal which is why there are no tracks of him going into the woods. I sense his wolf and I think he's still in the woods." Alaric explained.

"Portal?"Ella asked curiously.

"It's a magical artifact that can take you anywhere you want," I explained to Ella.

"Wow, that is fantastic."

We both followed Alaric's lead, tailings behind him.

"Portal has its limitations, it can only take you to the place you have seen. The first portal artifact was stolen by the cloves, it has been replicated over the years to facilitate their evil purpose ." I said to Ella.

"I'm guessing these cloves are not good people."

"They are ruthless bounty hunters and they never rest until they get their targets."

"Shh" Alaric hushed us up and signaled for us to hide.

We quickly hid behind the trees.

I watched as a girl tied miles up as he struggled to free himself.

My best guess was she was the hunter that Miles fought within the library.

Alaric stepped on a branch and my eyes widened in shock. The girl quickly tightened the chain around Miles's wrist.

She swiftly took a dagger and placed it against Miles's neck.

"Come out whoever you are or I'll slit his throat before you even attempt to do anything." The girl threatened.

Ella crouched behind the tree, her grip tightened on her sidearm. Observing her every movement.

I came out from behind the tree and I stood in front of the girl.

"Let him go and I promise you, I won't hurt you," I assured the girl.

The young lady in front of me gave me a sarcastic look.

"One wrong move from you." The lady smirked pressing the dagger deeper against Miles's skin while I swallowed hard fearing the worst.

"I slit his throat before you even move so I'd advise you to back off. This is my bounty."

I exhaled feeling exhausted as I racked my brain trying to think of a solution that would not involve hurting miles.

He was still in his half transformation, the full moon was approaching and I was yet to complete the spell.

I rolled my eyes to the side where Ella and Alaric were still hiding. One signal from me and they would rush to my aid but I couldn't act rashly because this girl would not hesitate to end the life of my son.

I tried to move forward but the girl hurriedly moved back pressing the dagger deeper causing Miles to groan in pain.

The only thing keeping Miles calm even though he was in his half-werewolf state was the binding chains that could block the powers of any supernatural.

"Take another step, witch and I'll kill your son and burn you to a crisp." The girl yelled.

"Let him go and I'll give you anything," I said to the girl.

"What I want, you cannot give me." The girl scoffed"I want my freedom and the clove has promised to grant me my request if I bring the werewolf alive or dead so I'd suggest you back off."

The girl in front of me was too young to start taking a mission but what was I expecting from the cloves? They were a heartless association that trained young children and turned them into heartless killers.

If I'm not mistaken this child would be almost the same as Miles.

"The clove will never grant you freedom but I promise if you let the boy go I can offer you protection from the clove and remove the blood-binding contract."

I noticed when she heard the blood-binding contract she shifted uncomfortably darting her eyes at me.

"How did you know?" She asked and I could pick up a hint of fear from her tone.

"Every hunter from the clove is bound by a blood oath and they cannot be broken so why do you think the cloves have any intention of Letting you go? They will only use you till they get bored and you will be discarded."

"Lies, the cloves never do such a thing you've just cooked up stories so I'll let my guard down and let this little beast go." The girl frowned and then she muttered"In your dreams."

She raises the dagger aiming for Miles's heart I panicked using my powers blasting both Miles and the girl, causing them to crash on the ground.

Alaric and Ella dashed out from their hiding place and they took a stand by my side.

The girl was unfazed by our presence and I knew she was not going down without a fight.

The girl hurled multiple darts our way, but Alaric swiftly conjured a shield to protect us.

Ella took her gun in a swift movement firing a few shots at the girl but she moved so fast dodging every single bullet fired at her.

"We don't want to hurt you I just want my son," I yelled at the girl.

I started to feel a twinge of sympathy when I noticed her clutching her shoulder, blood trickling down. It turns out one of Ella's bullets had grazed her.

"If you want the wolf you will have to go through me." The girl yelled and flung her whip from her belt.

I signaled Alaric to get Miles since he was a bit closer, while Ella and I moved closer to distract the girl.

She must have seen through our petty scheme, causing her to give a weird smirk.

She lashed the whip on the floor, and dust from the earth came towards us. Ella and I quickly shielded our eyes from the flying dust.

Alaric tried to help us, but the girl swiftly flung the whip around his neck.

Miles gave a roar causing the earth to tremble and I nearly lost my balance.

"Miles no.." I yelled.

I gasped when he broke free from the chains and launched at the girl and In minutes I saw her lifeless body drop to the ground.
