"Hey, hold up!"
So, the nurse starts chatting with my enemy in German. I kinda get a bit of it, but when they start talking fast, I'm like, lost and sleepy. So there I was, yawning while they were chattin'. The nurse finally gives back the third-year kid's ID, but not before giving him a massive lecture.
"Why don't you come in here too? Let's have a chat about why you're picking on Chris."
The nurse managed to drag the third-year kid in. Maybe he thinks she's hot too. When she's all bossy, it's kinda funny, not scary.
So there we all are, in the clinic.
"What's your name?"
The nurse asks, her voice all loud and sudden while fixing stuff on the medical bed. Probably where she naps. I plop down on a sofa, while Joe stands awkwardly facing her.
"Joe Peter, ma'am…"
"How'd you meet Chris?"
Joe Peter looks like a deer in headlights. He can't say it's because he got all cocky when he saw me staring at him.
"Well, ma'am, I just thought he was full of himself. Always with the ladies."
"So you started picking on him because of that?"
"Yeah, and he fights back too! We had a fistfight before. My classmates just got into it too."
"Don't you know Chris is the teacher's nephew? Next year, Ma'am Donaldo might be your teacher, and you're picking on her nephew?"
"S-sorry, ma'am. It won't happen again."
I just stay quiet, 'cause honestly, I could take him in another fight. I just want this jerk off my back.
"Tell your buddies to back off too. You guys never fight fair, always in groups. I can handle you, one-on-one."
I had to chime in.
"Aren't you worried about getting beat up if they gang up on you?"
"Gotta be brave. If I don't fight back, they'll keep messing with me."
"Yeah, he's a good fighter. My classmates probably just picked on him because he fights back."
"Just stop it already. Do you want someone to get seriously hurt? From what I see, you guys don't actually hate each other. You just didn't get a proper introduction. Chris is a good guy, and you don't seem that bad either. Maybe your friends are just egging you on. If this fight is pointless, just drop it."
When the nurse talks calmly, you really listen. She's got this big-sister vibe, and you know she's genuine.
"Can't you two just sort it out right now? Shake hands and call it quits. I mean, you've already punched each other enough to know each other by now."
The nurse convinces us to shake hands. It's awkward, but we do it. I don't know if he means it, but whatever, we did it.
"Here's your ID back. Cut it out, okay?"
She sits down at her desk and writes something.
"Here, Joe Peter. Show this to your subject teacher so you have an excuse for being late or skipping class. I wrote that you had a consultation with me; like Chris, it's counseling. So, can I count on you not to fight anymore?"
When she says that, she casually crosses her legs, and we both can't help but stare. I get how she distracts people. Joe Peter just agrees and leaves, apologizing to me. I just nod.
