Chapter 3 - Counting Sheep

Wolf

I lean the recliner back and look over at Lacey. She looks so comfy wrapped up in her blankets. I felt such satisfaction seeing her wearing one of my favorite band shirts to bed. She thinks it belongs to her brother Caleb but it's mine. I must have left it when I stayed over one time. I don't know why but seeing her in my shirt satisfied some deep primal side that I didn't know existed. I can't get the thought out of my head that I want to see if she looks just as good in some of my other clothes. Not that she would ever knowingly wear anything of mine.

I don't know why she hates me. Yeah I've teased her for years but it's only because she looks so cute when she gets all fired up. The only time I think she looks more beautiful is when she is dancing especially when she thinks know one is watching her.

I feel my phone vibrate and look down to see that Vanessa has texted me. I unlock my phone to look at the message.

'Hey Wolf. Thanks for coming over earlier. It's nice to know that I have a friend here. I'm sorry for bothering you tonight. You know I just miss home.' -Vanessa.

'Nessa you know it's never a bother. Let me know if you need anything else.' I type the message out and then I turn my phone off for the night.

I don't bother setting an alarm because I know that my little mouse already has one set. She is very meticulous with her time and probably is going to get up extra early. I glance over at her and see that she snoring slightly and has one of her smooth long legs thrown out of the blanket. She is sleeping on her side one hand underneath her head. Good. She needs her sleep. She pushes herself too hard sometimes so I'm glad she is getting some rest.

I think about earlier. I don't know why she is so opposed to dancing a duet with me or even practicing with me. She knows that I am her best shot.

My attention shifts to Lacey when I hear a noise coming from her direction. At first I think that I must of misheard because she's fast asleep but I hear something again. It sounds like mumbles but I can't be sure.

I stand and walk in her direction to make sure everything is alright. When I get right in front of her bed I know something is off. Lacey is curled up in a little ball almost hugging her knees in her sleep. She is mumbling to herself and I can't make out most of the words. I can hear her repeatedly say 'No, stop.' but I can't hear anything else.

I stand there for a moment debating if I should wake her. I don't want to purposely startle her but it looks like she is having a bad nightmare. I decide that I will try waking her up just to make sure she is alright.

I lean over her and slightly shake her trying to wake up. I stead of rousing from her sleep, Lacey burrows further into her blankets and mumbles more furiously. I trying shaking a little harder but she still doesn't wake up.

"Little mouse wake up." I say as I continue shaking her.

She sits up suddenly, a bewildered look on her face. Her eyes a slightly glazed as if she was in a trance and she runs with slightly before looking at me alarmed.

"Is something wrong? Why did you wake me Wolf?" She asks looking equal parts angry and confused.

"Sorry little mouse. I know you're tired. You were having a bad nightmare and I was worried." I feel a little guilty for waking her up.

"I always have nightmares. It's not a big deal. Next time don't wake me up. This is going to mess up my sleep schedule." She grumbles.

"I'm sorry I'll leave you alone." I say back and turn to walk back to the recliner to sleep.

"Wait Wolf." Lacey grabs my wrist and I turn around to see her hugging her pillow, her doe eyes pearing up at me.

"What little mouse?"

"I'm a little scared. You promise you won't make fun of me." She says and I can't help thinking that she looks so gorgeous right now in my shirt cocooned in blankets.

"Pinky promise." I respond sticking out my pinky at her.

"Can you sleep with me?" She asks.

"Sleep with you? What do you mean?" I raise an eyebrow at her surprised at her question.

"I just mean I'm scared after that girl got attacked and I feel bad at you having to sleep in that chair. There's enough room for both of us. You can sleep in the bed with me but don't think this means anything Wolf." She says blushing slightly. I stand there for a second in shock.

"Ugh are you sure you're ok with that." I respond. Don't get me wrong I would love nothing more than to sleep in Lacey's bed with her especially if she lets me hold her but I don't want to push her too far.

"I wouldn't mention it if it made me uncomfortable. Now come here." I tugs on the wrist she is still holding. I slip into her bed and pull one of the blankets over me.

"Just stay on your side though." She says turning so her back is to me. I smile just happy to be this close to her.

"Don't worry little mouse. I won't touch you until you're begging for me to." I respond smirking. She doesn't respond to my comment and soon her little snores fill the room. Soon enough I also drift off to sleep with a goofy grin on my face.
