When I got home, I signed the contract that Alzid gave me. Maybe it was because I was so desperate, and yes, I was selfish. I wanted to use Alzid to forget Keivan. I also knew that Alzid had his reasons for making the deal with me, but I didn't care about that anymore. All I cared about was forgetting him and getting revenge.
The next day, I forced myself to get up and go to school even though I didn't want to. I needed to do it; it would be embarrassing to let my aunt down by neglecting my studies.
When I got to the classroom, I was surprised to see a bouquet of flowers and chocolates on my desk. My classmates started teasing me.
"Hey girl, wow, you moved on quickly and the new guy is even better looking than Keivan.
You go, girl!" one of my classmates said, and they all started cheering.
I was so embarrassed and had no idea what was going on. I slowly walked to my desk. I didn't feel excited or anything because I knew it wasn't from Keivan.
When I picked up the flowers, I saw a letter, so I read it. It said:
"Don't get any ideas. It's just part of our revenge against your ex-boyfriend."
I just rolled my eyes after reading it. So it's nothing special, but is it effective?
Why did he have to do this? I was also surprised when everyone suddenly went quiet and stopped teasing me. I looked up and saw Keivan at the door, looking at me. I couldn't tell what emotion I saw on his face. I looked from the letter to the flowers and back to him, but he just stared at me. My classmates were looking at us too, knowing that Keivan and I had broken up.
I put the chocolates and flowers in my bag to end the awkward atmosphere in the room. I sat down and decided to read a book while waiting for the teacher. Kath, who used to sit next to me, was now my seatmate.
"Girl, Keivan looks pissed. I think he's jealous," Kath whispered to me.
I turned to her and stopped reading. "You think so?"
"Definitely. Look at him. He seems so upset and quiet," she said.
So I looked at Keivan. He was sitting in his seat, staring out the window with earphones on, looking deep in thought. But I didn't want to assume; he might be thinking about a lot of things, not just me, especially since he wanted us to break up.
"I don't want to assume, girl," I said and went back to reading.
"Hey girl, who's this new guy? Why haven't you told me about him? This is so fast, moving on already? Are you like a Taylor Swift song?" Kath said, intrigued.
I didn't want to explain. It was tiring and embarrassing, and if she found out about the contract, she would probably call me stupid.
"It's a long story, Kath. I don't want to explain right now," I said, sighing.
"Okay, whatever. But just don't do anything that will make your problems worse. And the guy who's courting you now is definitely better looking than Keivan. But girl, don't make him a rebound," Kath advised. I almost laughed at what she said.
"It's not like that. Anyway, fine. I'll tell you, but we have to keep it between us," I said.
"Okay, go ahead. Tell me why things changed so quickly," Kath said, clearly wanting to hear everything.
So I told her everything, and she was shocked.
"Oh my god... what kind of nonsense is that? I don't agree," she said after I explained about the contract.
"I couldn't think of any other way, girl. I want revenge and to forget him. Did he think he was the only one who could move on quickly?" I said, though our conversation was kept low in case someone overheard.
"You've lost it, girl," Kath said.
"Please support me. Didn't I tell you I want to forget him?" I said.
"And you think this is the right way?" she asked.
I just nodded.
"My goodness, you're just inviting more problems. But anyway, if that's really what you want, I'll support you," she said, though she seemed reluctant.
"Thank you, Kath. You're really my best friend," I said.
Our teacher arrived, and there was a brief lecture. I tried to focus, even though my mind was all over the place.
After class, I let Kath go home first because I had to wait for Alzid. We had an arrangement for me to give him the contract I signed. I waited at the gate.
He was late; I had been waiting for almost an hour. I kept checking my watch, and after an hour and a half, I started to walk away, annoyed. I was done waiting for that guy.
I almost jumped when a car honked loudly behind me. When I looked back, I saw a sleek car. The door opened, and I saw the guy I was cursing out for making me wait. He got out of the car, and from his expression, he looked angry.
"Why are you leaving? Didn't I tell you to wait for me?" he said angrily.
My vision darkened with frustration. I felt like hitting him. How dare he be mad?
"Hey, man! Don't talk to like that!. I've been waiting forever, and you're the one who's mad?" I said, pointing at him. He put his hand to his temple and closed his eyes, clearly irritated. How high was his pride? Why was he angry when he should be apologizing?
"Look, I don't have time for arguments. I'm a busy person. So can you please just give me the f*cking contract?" he said, looking tired. I don't know what he was dealing with, but who isn't tired? I shot him a sharp look.
I took the contract from my bag and handed it to him. "Here. By the way, what was with the show earlier?" I said angrily.
He gave a mischievous smile. "Trust me, maybe after one month, he'll beg for another chance," he said.
I couldn't understand where he got that idea.
"Trust me... just trust me," he said, then turned and got back into his car, leaving me behind. I was left trying to make sense of his words. How could he be so sure that Keivan would come back? What was his real plan?
