The excitement in the classroom slowly settled as Teacher Kame handed the lesson over to Teacher Lycca. She smiled warmly at us, her eyes twinkling with encouragement.
"Alright, everyone, now it's my turn. Today, we'll be diving into our first lesson: Understanding safety in a zombie apocalypse," she began, her voice steady and reassuring.
She walked to the front of the room and pulled down a large, detailed map of our area,
"The most important thing to remember is that safety is our top priority. This means knowing where you are, where you need to go, and how to get there safely."
Teacher Lycca pointed to a red line on the map. "This is our main wall it's 8 feet tall, Low but It keeps the zombies out, and it's very strong. But no wall is perfect. So, we need to be ready for anything."
She continued, "There are several safe zones within our walls, like this new school, our warehouse, and the supply depot. These are places where you can find shelter and safety if anything happens. Always know the quickest way to get to a safe zone from where you are."
"What if zombies get inside the wall?" Pane asked, his voice trembling with a mix of fear and curiosity.
"That's a great question, Pane," Teacher Lycca said.
"If zombies get inside, we have emergency signals. If you hear the loud siren, it means danger. You need to follow the evacuation routes to the nearest safe zone immediately. Remember to stay calm and follow the instructions of any adults or older kids."
She showed us a chart with different emergency signals. "This siren means danger. This whistle means it's safe to come out. And this bell means gather here." We all nodded,
Next, Teacher Lycca pulled out a small emergency kit.
"Everyone have an emergency kit in their house. This kit includes basic first aid supplies, water, a flashlight, a whistle, and some food. Let's go through what's inside."
She opened the kit and showed us each item, explaining its importance.
"The whistle can be used to call for help if you're in trouble. The flashlight helps you see in the dark, and the food and water keep you strong if you need to wait for help."
Teacher Lycca then displayed a set of basic rules on the projector:
Stay Calm: Panic can lead to mistakes. Take deep breaths and think clearly.
Stay Together: Always stay with your group. There is safety in numbers.
Stay Alert: Always be aware of your surroundings. Look for danger and be ready to act.
Listen to Leaders: Follow the instructions of your teachers, older kids, and community leaders.
"Let's talk about staying calm," she continued.
"When you're scared, it's easy to panic. But panicking can make things worse. If you find yourself in a scary situation, take deep breaths and focus on what you need to do next."
As Teacher Lycca finished explaining the boundary line, Thame raised her hand again, her voice small but clear. "What if we see a zombie?"
Teacher Lycca nodded, ready to address this crucial question. "Good question, Thame. It's important to understand that there are two types of zombies: day zombies and night zombies. Each has different strengths and weaknesses."
She continued, "Day zombies can't see but have excellent hearing. If you encounter one, stay silent and still. Since they rely on sound, it's best to avoid making any noise. You might be able to move away slowly and quietly if they haven't detected you yet."
"At night, there are two types: zombies that can hear but cannot see, and those that can both see and hear. With these, it's crucial to remain as quiet as possible. For the zombies that can see and hear, your best chance is to avoid them altogether. But remember this only applies in Walkers and Runners not to mutants "
Teacher Lycca demonstrated how to stay low and move quietly, encouraging us all to practice.
"Let's all try it together," she said, and we mimicked her movements, crouching low and stepping quietly around the room.
"Great job, everyone!" Teacher Lycca praised us.
She showed us how to find the best hiding spots in the classroom, like under desks and inside cupboards.
"These are examples of safe hiding spots. Always look for places where you can stay hidden until help arrives."
Teacher Lycca then moved on to discussing the importance of teamwork. "Surviving a zombie apocalypse isn't just about being strong or fast; it's about working together. Helping each other is the best way to stay safe."
Teacher Lycca continued her lesson, and the atmosphere in the room grew more attentive.
"Now, let's talk about one more important thing you need to know about zombies," she said.
"There's a special situation that can give us an advantage: rain."
"What happens when it rains?" I asked, leaning forward with curiosity.
Teacher Lycca smiled. "When it rains, zombies cannot move. The rain seems to affect their mobility, making them sluggish and almost paralyzed. This is a good time for us to move around safely or to escape if we find ourselves in a dangerous situation."
"Really? So rain is good for us?" other asked, wide-eyed.
"Yes," Teacher Lycca confirmed.
"Rain can be our friend. However, it's important to still be cautious. Just because zombies can't move doesn't mean they aren't still dangerous. They can still see or hear, depending on whether it's day or night. So, we still need to be careful and quiet."
She added a picture of a rainstorm to the presentation and pointed out the key points.
"Remember, during the rain, zombies will be stationary. Use this time wisely to find safe shelter or move to a safer location, but always remain vigilant."
"What if it stops raining while we're moving?" Thame asked, her concern evident.
"If the rain stops, you need to be prepared to quickly find a hiding spot or a safe zone. Always have a plan and know your nearest safe location. The moment the rain ends, zombies will start moving again," Teacher Lycca explained.
To help us remember, she led us through a quick role-play exercise. Each of us pretended to be caught in the rain, and we practiced moving to safety while staying alert for when the rain might stop. It was both fun and informative, and it helped solidify the lesson.
As we wrapped up, Teacher Lycca gave us some final advice. "Understanding the different types of zombies and their behaviors can help keep you safe. Whether it's knowing when to be silent and still or taking advantage of the rain, these strategies will help you survive. Remember, it's all about being prepared and working together."
Wow! I can't wait for more!
