Chapter 25 - Chapter 24: The art of problem-solving

( Teacher Lycca point of view )

I prepared for today's lesson, the room was filled with excitement and a bit of nervousness. The children were eager but also knew that today's lesson was important. Few weeks had passed so We were focusing on problem-solving, a skill crucial for survival outside our safe walls, especially in a world filled with zombies.

"Good morning, everyone," I greeted them warmly.

" GOOD MORNING! TEACHER LYCCA! " I smiled and nodded at them. Kids are so cute!

"Today, we're learning about problem-solving. This is very important because when you're outside, you need to know how to handle dangerous situations, like facing zombies."

I glanced around the room and noticed Azriel and Thame sitting apart. lately, they had been arguing a lot. I hoped this lesson would help them work together again.

"In our world, knowing how to solve problems quickly can keep you safe," Kame added, making sure the kids understood how serious the lesson was.

"Today, let's clear some space. Everyone, move the corners and wait after we finish here," I instructed, and we quickly reorganized the room with the help of a few guards. We placed various objects around to add to the realism of the simulation.

Once we're done, I gestured towards the center of the room where Dr. Will stood beside a large console.

"Today, Dr. Will has prepared something special for us," I announced.

"He's created a simulation hologram that will make it feel as though you're outside. This isn't just for fun; it's a practical exercise to help you develop critical thinking and decision-making skills under pressure."

The lights dimmed, and the hologram flickered to life, casting an eerie glow over the room. The scene transformed into a desolate landscape, with a narrow alleyway blocked by debris. The walls were high, and the alley seemed endless. Abandoned vehicles and trash cans were scattered around, making the setting feel real and dangerous. The sound of distant growls and shuffling feet filled the air, adding to the immersive experience.

"This is what it might look like outside our safe walls," I explained.

Dr. Will then activated the simulation hologram. The room changed into what looked like a real outdoor setting, with sounds of zombies in the distance. The air felt tense, and the kids were wide-eyed, feeling the danger even though it was just a simulation and whispered among themselves, clearly intrigued and a bit scared by the realistic simulation. They could feel the tension, as if they were really outside facing the dangers of the world beyond the walls

"This feels so real. " one of their murmurs

"Azriel's group, you're up first," I announced. Azriel, BJ, Zach, Thame, and Roseann stepped forward, looking both determined and a little scared. BJ stood close to Thame, offering silent support.

Their challenge appeared on the hologram: A narrow alleyway was blocked by debris.

The alley was dark, with tall, old buildings on both sides. It was cluttered with broken pieces of concrete, metal scraps, and furniture, making it hard to walk through. At the end of the alley was a high wall that they needed to get over to escape. The sounds of zombies getting closer made everyone nervous. They knew they had to move fast but quietly, so they wouldn't attract the zombies.

The goal was to escape without attracting the zombies.

"Your goal is to get out quietly without making too much noise," I explained. "Use everything around you and think carefully."

The group began to plan. Azriel suggested they make a small noise to distract the zombies, while Zach found a pipe that could help open a grate in the wall. Thame looked unsure and disagreed with Azriel.

"Maybe if we make some noise with this trash, we can draw them away," Azriel said, looking at the scattered junk. .

Thame, however, seemed unsure. she glanced at the dark end of the alley where the zombies were. "I think making noise might just bring more zombies to us," she said nervously. BJ agreed with Thame's cautious approach. "Yeah, it could make things worse," she added, sounding worried.

Azriel, frustrated by the hesitation, insisted, "We can control the noise, just enough to move them away from the grate. It's risky, but we have to do something, and we need to work together."

They decided to try Azriel's plan first. They gathered some metal scraps and tossed them near the entrance of the alley. The loud clatter echoed through the night, but it wasn't enough to draw the zombies away from the grate. Instead, the creatures seemed even more excited, their growls growing louder as they moved closer.

Frustration boiled over when they realized the plan hadn't worked. "I told you it wouldn't work!" Thame snapped, raising her voice. "We should have thought this through more!"

Azriel clenched his fists, feeling the pressure mounting. "And what else are we supposed to do, Thame? Just sit here and wait for them to find us? We have to take risks!"

Roseanne , Zach and Reed stood awkwardly between them, looking uncomfortable with the growing argument.

" They taking this seriously, that's good " Kame whispered

" What's wrong with Azriel and Thame? " Will asked I sighed as they keep arguing

"Stop it!" I raised my voice, getting their attention.

"This isn't just about who's right; it's about working together. Azriel, Thame, both of your ideas are good, but you need to listen to each other."

Azriel and Thame looked at each other, still tense but more willing to cooperate. Zach sighed in relief, glad the argument was over. They got another chance to try the challenge.

"Let's try something different," BJ suggested. She's uncomfortable of the two

"Maybe we can use the pipe to make noise in another direction and distract the zombies better."

Azriel agreed, though he still looked tense. "Okay, Thame, you use the pipe to make tapping noises while BJ and Zach handle the debris."

Thame took the pipe and started tapping on the walls. The sound echoed down the alleyway, making the zombies turn towards the noise. BJ and Zach carefully made some noise with the debris, making sure not to be too loud.

The zombies slowly moved towards the tapping sound, giving the group enough time to open the grate and escape. The simulation ended, and the room was silent for a moment before everyone clapped, recognizing their effort.

"Good job," I said, smiling at them. "You showed good teamwork and thinking. Azriel, you led well, and Thame, your cautious approach was important. BJ, your support kept everyone focused."

I noticed a change in their expressions. Thame looked at Azriel and nodded, a silent way of saying, "We did it together," and Azriel nodded back. Roseanne smiled, happy to see them working together again and cling to Azriel arms that make me laugh. look at Azriel face.

"Remember, problem-solving is not just about escaping a tough situation; it's about staying calm, thinking clearly, and using what you have," Kame reminded everyone, highlighting the lesson's importance.
