Chapter 21 - Chapter 20: First Class

We stopped talking when we reached the other end. Wow, they built more walls around the building! My eyes lit up when I saw the big building in front of me. I heard a door close and turned around to see the door in the hallway shut, while the guards stood with us and went up the wall.

"Welcome, BJ, to the Survival Class building," Teacher Kame said.

"This used to be an old elementary school. We're lucky it's nearby," he added as we walked.

"Cool, right, BJ?" Reed whispered, and I nodded. Just look at those amazing paintings! The building was covered in colorful drawings!

As we entered and reached the highest floor the 3rd floor, I saw two groups of kids going into a room.

"This is our room, BJ. It's soundproof thanks to Dr. Will and Auntie Ariela," Thame said, pointing to the front door labeled "Section A."

I peeked into the other classroom and saw kids and two instructors teaching, with guards standing by the windows. Teacher Kame held my hand and led me inside.

Wow! This looks just like the comics!

"That's how we looked when we first came here, haha," Reed said, and the other kids nodded.

"But the best part is the lockers!" Thame and Roseann shouted, running to the back. Teacher Lycca pointed out my locker next to Reed. They put their food in theirs, and I took out my lunchbox, placing it inside before closing it. Look! My locker has my name on it!

"Everyone, let's settle down and sit. Let's do another introduction for BJ, okay?"

"YES, TEACHER!"

Teacher Kame guided me to my seat. I was sitting by the window with Roseann, Thame, Reed, Az, and Zach. The table had five seats, but there were six of us.

The other kids started introducing themselves. We were all between six and eight years old, and I nodded along even though I already knew them. I noticed four guards in the room: one by each window, one at the front door, and one at the back.

Then it was our turn. Zach started.

"Hello again, I'm Zachary Yun Mishika, 7 years old. Son of Euno and Bree." Zach bowed, saying our parents' names since they were leaders. I thought there were five other kids whose parents were leaders.

"Azriel Skyer Jun Kim, 8 years old, son of Ariela and Geo."

"Wow! Az is so cute!" I was surprised by the murmurs. He's not cute!

"I'm Reed Jine Cruz, 7 years old. Son of J."

"Hello, classmates! I'm Thame Mills, daughter of Yan and Aque," she said with a wink, making the boys murmur and causing Teachers Lycca and Kame to laugh.

"Hello again, I'm Roseanne Thapthim, 6 years old. Daughter of Pwat and Rose," she bowed. Whew, it was my turn!

"Hello, kids! I'm finally here! I'm Beatrice Cojuangco, 7 years old! But call me BJ! If you call me anything else, you're dead! Got it?!"

Everyone nodded, and I smiled. Good. Teacher Kame laughed but stopped when Teacher Lycca clapped.

"We'll keep that in mind, BJ. Now that we have BJ here, can we teach her a brief introduction to our class?" Teacher Lycca said as I sat down.

" Yes Teacher! "

Teacher Lycca smiled at us, ready to begin.

"Alright, everyone! Today, we're going to recap what we've learned about the zombie apocalypse over the past week. BJ was sick, so let's make sure she's caught up."

Teacher lycca open up a projector and a powerpoint. In the first slide is a normal beautiful streets with many lively people in it. Then change into the world right now, It's amazing that Auntie Ariela , Uncle Piolo and the other Inventor is able to still use the technology and fix them.

She started, "Nine years ago, a strange virus spread quickly, turning people into zombies. At first, it seemed like a bad flu, but soon many began to act aggressively. Cities fell, and the outbreak became uncontrollable. But thanks to K group , Tyler Group and Sky Squad that they are lot of survivors. "

" Right, the zombies used to be normal people " I whispered

"Exactly, BJ. That's why understanding the threat is so important," Teacher Lycca replied. Eh? She heard me?

"Knowing what zombies look like and how they behave helps you recognize danger quickly."

Teacher Lycca leaned forward. "What else did we learn?"

" We learned about the importance of safety. We need to create safety plans for both inside and outside our safe zone. This includes knowing where to hide and how to escape if necessary." Roseann said

" Very Good! "

"Another key lesson was teamwork," Teacher Lycca continued.

"In this world, we have to rely on each other. We practiced skills to help us work together effectively."

"Right! We did a group activity," Other kids added. "It was fun!"

What? They did a group activity?! I'm jealous

"Exactly! And we also learned about finding resources," Teacher Lycca said. "This includes knowing how to find food and clean water. We talked about gardening and gathering supplies."

"Like planting our own vegetables?" I asked.

"Yes, BJ! That's a vital skill," Teacher Lycca replied. "We also covered basic first aid. Knowing how to treat injuries is crucial for survival."

"Will we practice that?" I was eager to learn more.

"Yes, we'll have hands-on lessons soon," Teacher Lycca assured us. "Finally, we discussed the importance of staying calm. Panic can lead to dangerous mistakes, so we practice ways to keep cool in emergencies."

"Absolutely! Now let's start again okay? ," Teacher Lycca announced and everyone nodded.

Teacher Lycca turned to the projector, and a slide appeared with different photos of zombies.

"Alright, class! Now we're going to learn about the different kinds of zombies. Understanding them is key to staying safe."

She pointed to the first image. "This is the normal zombie. They walk slowly and are usually easy to avoid if you're careful. But don't underestimate them! Even slow zombies can be dangerous in groups. We called them The Laggard. "

Next, she clicked to the second image.

"Here we have the aggressive zombie , We called them Ravager. These zombies move faster and are more unpredictable. These Zombies chase people. They can be much harder to escape from, so it's important to know how to handle a situation if you encounter one."

I frowned. "Are they really strong?"

"Yes, they are. Their strength and speed make them a significant threat," Teacher Lycca confirmed.

Then, she clicked to the next slide, showing a horrifying image of a mutant zombie.

"Now, let's look at some mutant zombies. This one is a bird-like zombie called Sky Reapers. They have the body of a zombie with wings and can swoop down to attack from above. They're very dangerous because they can catch you off guard."

" They're really scary!" others exclaimed.

"Definitely! Next, we have thin, bald , no hair in the body and had black eyes zombies we called them Creepers. These zombies are emaciated and often very fast. Their lack of hair makes them look even more unsettling, and they can be very aggressive. Faster , more aggresive and more dangerous than Runners. " Teacher Lycca said.

I shuddered at the next image. "What about those other mutants?"

"Great question, BJ! Some mutants can stretch their tongues to attack from a distance We called them Lungers. This makes them particularly dangerous because they can reach you even if you think you're safe," she explained, clicking to show other example.

"Ew! That's really creepy!" Thame said, wide-eyed. Seems like Teacher Lycca didn't show this image to them last week.

" They are also animals that turn into zombies. So far, we've mostly encountered zombie dogs and bird zombies. The dogs are aggressive and travel in packs. If you see one, it's best to stay silent and find a way around them."

"And remember the bird zombies," Teacher Lycca chimed in.

" These bird zombies unlike Sky Reapers, They are in the form of birds they make an annoying noise when they attack. While they don't turn humans into zombies, their screeches can attract other zombies nearby "

" Now, let's talk about the Goliaths. These massive zombies stand about eight feet tall and are incredibly strong. Their size makes them a serious threat, and you'll need to be very cautious around them," Teacher Lycca warned.

Whoa! They're so big! And scary!

" Knowing about these different types of zombies helps us understand what we're up against. Each kind requires a different strategy to avoid or deal with," Teacher Lycca added.

"Are we going to learn how to fight them?" I asked, looking eager.

" That is the Next level of survival Classes and learning how to fight them is training only for those who are 12 years old and above."

A murmur ran through the classroom. "Why just the older kids?" Pane asked. Yeah, Pane is with us. That fatso

Teacher Lycca nodded. " Well, Pane . The skills required to confront zombies directly can be dangerous and need maturity. Younger kids, like you, will focus on Basics, safety and teamwork for now."

Other kid looked curious. "What kind of training do the older kids get?"

" They have advanced lessons. Those qualified will learn advanced techniques for defending themselves, using tools, and understanding combat strategies," Teacher Lycca explained.

"They'll also have lessons on how to assess situations and make quick decisions in dangerous encounters."

Thame raised his hand. "Do you think we'll ever get to learn that?"

"If you continue to practice and learn the basics well, you'll have the opportunity when you're older. For now, we focus on staying safe and using our heads," Teacher Lycca reassured us.

I frowned. "But it sounds so cool!"

"It is! But safety always comes first. We want you to be prepared without putting you in unnecessary danger," Teacher Lycca replied.

"Remember, your training now is crucial. By mastering the basics, you're building a strong foundation for the future," she added. "And who knows? By the time you're 11, you might be ready for the next level!"

I felt a mix of excitement and anticipation. I'm excited to know that one day I would learn how to face zombies directly, but for now, I was focused on building my skills. I will be like Ms. Ajena!
