Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: Companions part 1

Denim tightened the straps on his armor and adjusted his grip on the Corrupted Sword as he ventured deeper into the desolate Southern Continent. The air was thick with tension, every step resonating with the memories of battles fought and lives lost. Despite the oppressive atmosphere, Denim's resolve was unyielding. He was determined to cleanse this land of the Void Creatures and restore it to its former glory.

He moved cautiously through the barren landscape, keeping his senses alert for any signs of danger. The few remaining structures were either charred husks or crumbling ruins, offering little in terms of shelter or resources. Denim knew he would need to find a suitable place to rest soon, but for now, his primary objective was to scout the area and gather information on the enemy's movements.

After several hours of navigating the desolate terrain, Denim spotted a group of figures in the distance. He climbed a nearby hill for a better vantage point, using the cover of rocks and debris to conceal himself. Peering through the scope of his bow, he observed a patrol of Void Creatures. Unlike the mindless minions he had faced before, these appeared more organized and disciplined, moving in formation and they are obviously up to something but what could that be?

Denim took note of their direction and numbers, mentally mapping their patrol route. It was evident that the Void Creatures were tightening their grip on the Southern Continent, and he would need to be strategic in his approach. He decided to follow them from a safe distance, hoping they would lead him to their base of operations.

As the patrol continued, Denim remained hidden, his movements silent and calculated. The creatures led him to the outskirts of what was once a bustling town. Now, it lay in ruins, its streets filled with the remnants of shattered buildings and burned-out vehicles. At the center of the town stood a large, ominous structure, heavily guarded by Void Creatures. This must be their stronghold, Denim surmised.

Before he could plan his next move, Denim felt a faint tremor beneath his feet. He quickly scanned his surroundings, spotting a fissure in the ground nearby. Curiosity piqued, he cautiously approached the opening, peering into the darkness below. The fissure seemed to lead into an underground tunnel system, possibly offering a way to infiltrate the Void Creatures' stronghold undetected.

Determined to gather more information, Denim descended into the tunnel, carefully navigating the uneven terrain. The air grew cooler as he ventured deeper, the walls of the tunnel illuminated by faint bioluminescent fungi. He moved swiftly but silently, aware that any sound could alert the creatures to his presence.

The tunnel eventually opened into a cavern, its vast expanse filled with the hum of machinery and the glow of arcane energy. Denim crouched behind a rock, observing the activity below. Void Creatures were busy at work, seemingly extracting some form of energy from the earth itself. This must be how they were able to corrupt the land so thoroughly, he realized.
