Chapter 24 - Pet

Born rushed out of the combat vehicle.

He saw five zombie dogs in the distance, surrounding Mia and Laura. Lane was nearby, carefully shooting with the automatic crossbow.

These zombie dogs were similar to the zombie cats they had encountered before but were much larger, even bigger than the previous zombie cats.

Their mouths were filled with rows of sharp, flesh-covered teeth, looking extremely menacing.

They also appeared more decayed overall.

Born raised his hand, and the sound of crackling electricity filled the air.

"Coordinate with me, attack!"

"Mia, go berserk. Laura, wind blades. Lane, psychic net."

Using the psychic net for communication allowed them to relay commands more quickly.

Born unleashed a lightning chain, the electricity spreading to all five zombie dogs.

Mia's eyes turned red, and her arms swelled significantly.

She lunged forward with explosive speed, shattering the concrete beneath her feet, and shot forward like a cannonball.

Beast transformation abilities enhanced her physical attributes, and combined with the berserk state, which amplified her strength by a percentage, Mia's physical prowess was now astonishing.

She swung her fire axe, cleaving a zombie dog's head in half.

The evolution core fell out, and Mia picked it up effortlessly.

Born launched another lightning chain, coupled with a lightning strike, quickly taking down another zombie dog.

Previously, a single zombie cat had caused them a lot of trouble, but now their strength had vastly improved.

After a few rounds of combat, only two zombie dogs remained.

At that moment, the zombie dogs let out a howl and began to retreat, burying their forepaws and heads into the ground.

Born frowned, thinking the zombie dogs were preparing to attack.

Unexpectedly, footsteps echoed from the shadows again.

Moments later, Born's eyes widened.

A tall zombie emerged, standing at least over two meters high, with two long, spiked tentacles protruding from its back, looking particularly disgusting.

Most importantly, there was an even larger zombie dog following this tall zombie.

"Damn!"

How long had it been? He was still thinking of zombies as the mindless, howling creatures outside.

Reality hit him hard. They were even keeping pets now?

The tall zombie patted the zombie dog beside it. With a howl, the zombie dog charged forward, its massive paws hitting the ground so hard it felt like the earth was shaking.

In her berserk state, Mia became more aggressive. She roared, raising her fire axe, and charged.

Laura waved her hand, adding wind blades to the fire axe. The wind blades could be applied to her own body, weapons, or even her companions.

The next moment!

Bang!

In just one clash, Mia was sent flying. However, her fire axe left a long gash on the zombie dog's body.

The tall zombie roared, its tentacles whipping the ground with crackling sounds.

Born frowned.

"Mia, be careful, stay calm!"

He raised his hand, and a lightning chain immobilized both the zombie dog and the tall zombie, making them convulse.

The lightning chain was more of a control skill.

Lightning strike!

A powerful current struck the tentacles of the tall zombie, severing one, which quickly withered like it was dehydrated.

Born repeated his tactic, coordinating with Mia and Laura's abilities.

The zombie dog was thoroughly dealt with.

The remaining tall zombie kept roaring, but Mia and the others pulled out their automatic crossbows, fighting and retreating strategically.

After nearly an hour of fierce battle, the tall zombie finally fell.

Born looked at the seven evolution cores in his hand. Two were slightly larger, while the other five were about the same size.

He immediately had the system absorb them.

[Points +2500, Points +1400]

The five smaller evolution cores provided 2500 points as expected, but Born was surprised that the two slightly larger cores gave him an additional 1400 points.

It seemed that the larger the evolution core, the more points it yielded upon absorption.

With the kill rewards and the points he had left from before, Born felt like he had hit the jackpot.

[Current points: 6887]

This was the highest amount of points he had ever accumulated, nearly reaching ten thousand.

But just then, the sound of chaotic footsteps echoed through the garage.

Born turned and saw hordes of zombies flooding into the underground parking lot.

Recalling the tall zombie's howling before it died, his eyes narrowed.

"Could it be that these zombies can call for reinforcements?"

"If they have a basic level of consciousness, it means zombies are still evolving!"

A chill ran down Born's spine.

If they could awaken abilities and enhance their physical attributes, why couldn't zombies evolve too?

However, this wasn't the time to ponder such things.

Born immediately called everyone to prepare to leave.

"The previous plan is now ready to be executed."

"Lane, connect with Pearl and tell her it's time to start the plan we've practiced!"

Born opened the system panel and quickly purchased automatic crossbows and bolts.

He also ensured that all 20 members of the maid corps received a shooting skill upgrade.

This cost another 1000 points, but Born, flush with resources, had no such concerns.

...

Meanwhile, everyone upstairs began to take their positions.

Those who had joined Born's team were all armed to face the incoming horde of zombies.

The previously sealed emergency exit doors were reopened.

Pearl's team members used ropes and techniques learned from the rescue team to create escape routes using bedsheets.

Born's plan was simple.

Most large buildings were required to have two emergency exits.

This building was no exception, though the other emergency exit was narrower.

Soon, the operation began.

One of the emergency exits was opened to attract the zombies. Five members of the maid corps, armed with automatic crossbows, waited in the emergency exit for the zombies to arrive.

Before long, zombies came roaring up the stairs. Upon seeing humans, they went berserk, rushing even faster.

The maid corps members fought and retreated, leading the zombies into the hallway. Using the narrow corridor to their advantage, they eliminated the zombies with their automatic crossbows.

After a while, a few more maid corps members appeared on the third floor, making noises to attract the zombies.

The zombies split, some heading towards the second-floor corridor while others were drawn to the third floor.

The maid corps on the third floor led the zombies into the hallway, repeating their tactic.

This cycle continued.

When they couldn't hold their ground, they used the other emergency exit or entered a room and climbed to the upper floors using ropes.

Lane connected the members on each floor using her psychic net throughout the battle. She also used ropes to deliver crossbow bolts to the fighting floors.

The ordinary people watching were stunned.

They had thought the maids were just for show, but now they saw how fierce they were in battle.

Clutching their weapons tightly, they realized that as grown men, they seemed to be of no use at all.

They were told to wait for the fight, but so far, they hadn't seen a single zombie.
