Ares and a few other wolves from the search parties heard Ms. Van's wails as they marched up the stairs to the den. Before their return, word had gone out, and everyone in the pack was privy to the recent attack by the killer. They called him the killer Phoenix, a rather fancy name for someone who'd done something quite heinous on two separate occasions. The adult wolves warned their little pups and teenage she-wolf daughters against trusting anyone both within and outside their age group. A new fear had been unlocked, and the weight was on Ares to do something about it.
The few people who'd gathered outside the den, awaiting news on Serene's condition, bowed their heads in greetings as Ares marched up the stairs. Jaw clenched, he acknowledged them with a slight nod of his own and went inside.
"Alpha!" Katherine rushed to his side as she sighted him amongst the crowd.
"How's she?" he asked.
