Everything hurt like hell.
There was a pounding headache and a dull ache that throbbed behind Serene's eyes. Her breathing was slightly painful, and her body felt heavy, as if encased in lead. Slowly, her consciousness returned, and the fog began to lift. She was awake.
The first thing she noticed was the white ceiling above and the walls with a similar colour that formed the boundary of the room. Next was Jodie, who was sitting by her bedside with a faraway look, hands fastened together. She appeared to be lost in thoughts.
