"Terrible?" Jodie proffered.
"Yes, actually." Kyle nodded. "Serene was way out of line. Are you okay?"
Jodie released a raspy chuckle. "Yes, I'm fine. Although surprised that you came to my rescue. I could've sworn you hated me a week ago."
"I don't hate you," he shrugged, then added as an afterthought, "I don't like you either. However, I follow the commands of my alpha, and concerning you, his instructions are clear. You'll have someone shadowing you in the meantime just in case Serene decides to go at you again."
Jodie shook her head. "That won't be necessary. I can handle myself."
Kyle looked down at Jodie's body again and curled his lip. "Highly doubtful, but the guards stay regardless. With everything going on, we can't be too careful. I'll leave you to fix the room and yourself." He turned to leave.
