Power was the problem. The weak could only sit by and watch as the strong ruined their lives. Her father had once had a 1st Circle Mystic as his bodyguard, but even that hadn't helped. If she wanted to protect her father, she needed more than that.
Two stars? Three stars?
She didn't know when to stop. The more she saw of the world, the more she feared. Power far surpassed her imagination. Whether it was Hilda, the maid, the priest, or the old man who controlled people, she didn't stand a chance with her current power.
It had significant drawbacks and required intense concentration. If she wasn't careful, she could become crippled from overusing it. The process could be made easier by using human blood, but she was unwilling to do so.
Another downside was that when she used her power, she didn't feel like herself. She became confident, cold, and decisive—a far cry from her normal, meek self who could only cry in the face of problems.
It was scary.
