Chapter 38 - Power

Mystic power came from belief. Whether from other people or oneself. It was a product of a human mind that crystallized into something new. It has no taste or sound, but it does have form.

It has different names, some call it divine power but most other people call it raw mystic force. When generated mystic power will reside within one body, and with enough of it, one could gain supernatural powers.

But raw mystical force doesn't belong in the human body. Any person who absorbs enough of the raw mystical force will be corroded. Becoming abominations, lose their identity, and become beasts.

In old times people would kill these beings or worship them as diety. And most that do so die in tragedy, how could a normal human fight an abomination?

However, someone discovers how to harvest the power and turn it into something humans could use.

The sun god, as people call him. The first ever person to create the circle method that humans use to harness such power.

It works by turning raw mystical force into a circle and then spinning it. The raw mystical force then turns into pure mystical force. The mystic then uses that to channel miracles.

Power comes from two things, belief and domain.

Belief is what the human mind holds true, it could be philosophy, goal, or what people think. If it's intense enough, or enough people believe it, that will generate raw mystical force.

The domain is what you fuse your belief with. In the circle method, one would need an item to hold the pure mythical energy that's generated. The person's domain is what that Item is, whether it is a rock, a twig, or blood. Something physical to store the power, and exert it when needed.

The domain will also dictate what kind of price you would have to pay for that power. Blood power would have to be paid with blood. The effect may differ with different beliefs but generally, it will have something to do with blood.

That's the power system that John remembers from the book.

John would need something to believe and believe it hard to start the path of power.

The easiest way to get that power is to believe in god, specifically the sun god. Having a rule to follow and a concept of a real god protecting you is an easy way to gain raw mystical force. to gain belief and be a believer yourself. The church used this to create as many priests as possible.

The downside to this method is that you would never become a god. When under the belief of a god they need to follow the rules of that god. A competent god wouldn't let his followers catch up to him.

Another is to believe in a creed, something to live by. A good example is the Antores creed which follows honor and duel.

"Honor yourself, honor your enemy. Don't lose even in the face of death and don't die if you can't make a name for yourself."

Kald was battling the duke, and that was when he learned of their creed. That's why the Antores could rise to become one of the six powerhouses of Eyre.

That's why Reeva wasn't Anotres anymore. He loses to Klad, flees, and tarnishes his name. The silver sword was broken at that moment. Never to be forged anew.

John couldn't follow that, he didn't believe in their creed. he didn't hold honor in high regard and a Dual wasn't his thing.

Then what did he believe in? One thing came to his mind when John was searching for it.

Happiness.

All his life, he has lived by such emotion. He didn't strive for more because he was happy, he didn't become someone else because he was satisfied. However, after arriving here, he didn't feel such. All he did was go forward without a real goal trying to search for that emotion.

He's caught a hint of it here and there. But never in a state he was before. John thinks hard about it. The difference is a possibility.

On earth he couldn't be happier to live his life because he deem that he has no chance of achieving something great, so he settle for a tiny corner of the world. A little apartment that he could pay for himself and a job that could sustain his life.

But now, on Eyre, he has a real shot of something. Something like becoming a god, something like a perfect ending for the novel he loves. It's only in front of him and he needs to reach out and grab it.

Earlier, he was furious. He didn't realise the reason but now he does. It is because of what the author said, about how unlikely that he could achieve it.

0.3%

Almost a gacha rate

John muses as he looks into the blue sky. From the alley sandwich between two medieval buildings. A clear conclusion comes to mind.

If those guys can get their waifu with those chances. I can do it.

That's his resolve. He looks down and picks up the phone that he threw away earlier. The black screen didn't infuriate him like it did before. He moves his finger to slide the screen open. Inside the app, two things pop up.

That must be something the author said would help him.

[Foresight]

[Expiriment]

That is the name of the two apps. The former has an eye icon and the latter has a conical flask icon. He clicks on the one with an eye. He like to know What kind of foresight the author has for this unlucky man.

The app opens with a popup.

Warning, foresight could be used once a month would you like to do it?

-yes

-no

John moves his finger onto the [yes]

However, before John can touch the screen, he is interrupted by a sound coming from the entrance of the alley

"Are you alright? I heard you screaming"

Theia didn't approach him afraid something might have happened to the guy before she got here. you could never be more careful when dealing with mystic.

"You ask me who I am right?"

"Yeah?"

Theia didn't know where this conversation was going. The black metal must have done something for John because when she looked at him, something changed.

"I might just be Reeva"
