Chereads / An Ordeal of The Warlords / Chapter 39 - Right Past.

Chapter 39 - Right Past.

The feeling inside the room had been changed there, Arya couldn't calm his breath in the face of impending danger. Reva was more uncomfortable than most, and Ana was in a sense of annoyance towards her and Reva.

"I think she should all have a sip of wine and tea, which one prefers and my prince if I find you acting like that one more time. I suppose your entire bloodline will remember the way I killed you." River sat down clutching his glass of wine.

Alexander looked at him with angry eyes, but he kept his mouth shut. He walked away from the room with his little eyes twitching. River took a sigh when he read the team's faces in the room.

"I think we all need to calm down. Like I said, take a sip of whatever you need, then we need to talk. And make sure to not spill anything."

The group followed his words, even with wobbly hands. Each of them took a sip, Arya was suddenly a wine enjoyer as observed by River.

"Now then, Reva. Can we just talk about what you just did? I don't know in what world you believe that it will be easy to catch a vampire attack?" River questioned Reva.

"I don't know… I was on the fervour of the energy potion. My mind was so ready to take on the challenge. I know, I remember, I have stopped a vampire before." Reva explained herself while gazing at the floor mat, and crossing her arms.

"Energy potion? You didn't look like you drank one?" River objected. Ana raised her eyes looking sharply at her pockets.

"You told me that you took no energy potions and were saving that for energy. Did you lie to me at that time? Did you lie to me!" Ana spews words like poison.

"I didn't lie to you.." Reva replied quickly, "... I didn't, Mercy had a plan for me to drink these energy potions and stay in the state of its effects at all times. So, I mixed some of it in the wine and drank it. I didn't drink the entire bottle, only a tiny bit."

Reva leaned, drank the entire glass of wine and poured herself another. "I suggest you stop drinking, Reva. You are under the effect of two potions, and more alcohol will make things worse. There is a limit to the toxicity a human body can bear, and I can tell you it's very low."

"Reva, I think you didn't heard River. Stop drinking, Reva!" Ana had to get and steal the drink from Reva's hands when she manically poured more and more.

"Don't try to run away from reality, there is something you are hiding. Your behaviour has changed, why? What did Mercy do to you?" Ana asked.

"Don't give a fuck about me, Anastasia. These bloody warlords will kill me when the time comes or, I will kill myself soon." Reva lashed out, covering her face with her hands. Arya broke out of his mind and froze, looking at Reva.

"I want to kill the man who killed my mother. The bloody Warmonger, I want that man dead."

"..."

"Why are you all bloody silent? I know already, that the warmonger is the most skilled warrior warlord in the world right now. How can this little prick kill that beast? Huh?"

River hunched and collected his thoughts before speaking. "Like when he was talking to me." Arya observed.

"Don't stop, Reva. Take more portions every day in the name of building tolerance and you will be dead before you can take two full portions at once, any two of them, I mean. Even the ones used to remove toxic effects."

"Then how do I do it? I can't dream to be as agile as the warmonger, I can't hope to have more strength, and aura refinement than him if I train and work for my entire life. Maybe even give me the next seven lives, even then I will be unmatched."

"Killing yourself won't help either, Reva. I don't think you should be thinking about revenge right now."

"River, you shut up about it. What don't you have? Your research, a good wife, subjects to investigate. No debts, no people left to take revenge on. Because of me, us.. The ravens… "

"Reva, I think you should reconsider before speaking, my nerves are holding back because you're drunk." River clutched the glass, Ana could sense his anger spurling.

"...we helped get all you have. And you can't help me for shit." Reva sewed words like poison.

"Reva! Enough. Are you a kid of 11 to not admit your mistakes? Take a look at Arya and say that what happened was all Mercy's or River's or maybe that prince's fault." Ana screamed at her.

Reva turned her face towards Arya, who was staring at her with blood still slowly following down his neck. The shell shock, the look of fear and the feeling of betrayal, " A victim's face." She told herself.

"Can't." Reva was back on her seat, taking deep breaths and trying to forget the visions… the slow and painful visions of silver came to her, she didn't realise that tears were flowing down her eyes. River however, didn't look like he cared.

"Reva, I still respect your desire to get stronger, and actually take my advice for once and not go too far by lying. Still, I can't suggest you take potions, don't trust Mercy's every word. He lies, too." River drank another sip.

"Darling, sit down. I have it under control now." River urged Ana to sit.

Ana sighed and sat down, "I am still surprised you handled the situation that well." her smile was a little visible amidst all the things that were happening.

"'The more information on the enemy, the more you are free from errors and failures. Things just go your way.' My fellow ravens told me that."

Reva looked at River with tired yet hatred-filled eyes.

"Reva. let's be a little more practical here, power and knowledge aren't gained in one day. Did you know that the warmonger worked 7 years as a dragon steel warrior, he wields his hammer made of dragonsteel, not his warlord powers and did you forget when he gave us a visit?"

River put down his glass of wine and looked into Reva's soul with his sharp vision.

"Your mother was the best warlord hunter, and you are not your mother are you?"

"No, I am not my mother. I am better than her."

"Think again, because she and you both trusted the wrong man in their lives and see what situation puts you."

"?!" Arya knew that was too much for someone drunk or not to hear. Reva rose in anger, pulled Evelyn out of its holster, and aimed it right at River's face, and without a shred of hesitation.

「Power: Marsh Shield」

*Shoot

The smoke came flying out of the gun and so did the torn pieces of marble pillar surroundings. Flying in the making of a protective shield around the River. There was silence after the loud noise of the bullet, Ana was holding her breath not knowing what to say.

"The bloody hell, Reva! Did you try to kill him ?!" Arya stood up and looked at Reva who was frozen in her position.

"You know there are consequences to trying anything like this, Reva!"

"She wasn't trying to shoot you, Sir River." The voice of the vampire prince was in the room once again.

Ana and Arya turned towards seeing Alexander holding the steaming ball bearing in his hand, "And she wasn't trying to shoot me either." He smiled.

"I wanted to blow up what was behind him, so get aside and let me do my work." Reva looked in anger.

Alexander raised his hands in the air and moved aside, Arya watched him, still maintaining the shield.

"Raven." On the wall, there hung a portrait of ravens, all sitting on a tree with hanging bodies on it. Then Reva fired her second shot.
