Chapter 29 - The Fox

Saor was wandering in that same white snow for months now, or at least he thinks, he lost the track of time, he didn't meet any living being, if you don't count the threes that is, but they really weren't that much of company.

He began feeling his patience running thin, he was on the verge of insanity, how could be possible that on that entire cursed snowy land there wasn't a single creature ?

What kind of twisted mind created such hellish place?

His thirst was for now satiated, Saor founded a little almost frozen lake where he drank some water, even if freezing it was still refreshing.

He began wandering again, his mission abandoned him mind long ago, now all he wanted was to find something, anything worth of his sufferings, the strange thing was that even in the forests he found sometimes the only thing that could be heard was silence, the time of silence that no sane mind can survive for long.

Not even the chirping of the birds could be heard, the only noise was the sound of the bare foots of Saor that sank in the snow.

Only a few days passed since Saor drank that water and something strange began happening to his body, the once cold, freezing wind was now nothing more than a light breeze, one that didn't disturbed Saor at all.

His body became slowly more accostumated to the harsh environment, with time it didn't seem as bad at the start, it was still completely empty, but at least he didn't suffered the cold anymore.

It was a day like many others, he was walking, his mind somewhere else, when suddenly he heard a strange sound, the suond that normally only something alive could do, it was a low whine, almost imperceptible by human ear.

Saor retook controll of himself, controlling his growing excitement, he slowly walked towards the sound, and then he saw it.

It was the cub of a white fox, it's eyes were blue and his fur was white, the same color of the snow.

It seemed to be wounded his limb had a gross cut on its side, anyone could have seen it.

Saor decided to approach it slowly, the first time the little cub set its eyes on Saor it immediately started to growl.

With each step the growl intensified, Saor knew that this wasn't the best way to approach a wild animal, but he also knew that with such wound the fox had its days numbered.

Once he arrived at one step from it, Saor slowly moved his right hand towards the cub, it took that opportunity to attack him and bite his hand.

The only thing he gained was a strong teeth ache since the right hand of Saor was that with Magma's armor.

The fox slowly tried to limp away, since the attack didn't worked the only remaining choice was to escape.

Saor took it effortlessly in his hands, it was still small, he decided to try to help this little beast, since it was the only living thing that he met since his arrival there, and probably it will also be the able to maintain Saor's mental health good.

He slowly took the fox to his little camp where he set the only things that he still had left.

Saor took out of his almost broken bag the wine bottle from Magma's Guardians before slowly pouring it on the fox's wound.

A miriad of different whining followed, the morning after, Saor was destroyed, he couldn't stay with his eyes open for even a few minutes before falling asleep.

If taking care of a wild animal was this difficult then taking care of his kids was another hell of a job, often many years prior his Less citizens talked about the tiring life of a parent, if that experience was worse than his taking care of an animal then he had to thank God he didn't had any sons or daughters.

"Or at least you think so..." laughted Micah from the sky.
