After tending to the survivors and ensuring all was well, Amon walked towards Verina, who sat on the floor close to a hut, her gaze fixed on the ground. She had remained like that from the night he saw her until this morning. The morning sun poured onto her olive skin, which was covered in dust, ashes, and mold.
"My princess," he squatted next to her. He knew quite well she was awake. In fact, he doubted she had gotten any sleep. "Are you alright?"
Verina shrugged, her eyes still fixed on the ground. "I will be, give me a moment." She did not raise her head to look at him as she spoke those words. Thankfully, Amon gave her the space she needed.
It had been turmoil. She had wished for sleep to come, but it was hard; her eyes refused to close no matter how many times she forced them to. She tried not to think about what had happened, about what she had seen, but it was difficult.
