Chereads / The Rise Of Vaporeon / Chapter 16 - Cleaning the Light

Chapter 16 - Cleaning the Light

The castle of Lord Draegor was enveloped in darkness as the night deepened. The atmosphere was tense, with an eerie silence pervading the corridors. The only sound was the faint rustling of the wind and distant echoes of footsteps. Vaporeon left his quarters, cloaked in shadows. His eyes gleamed with determination as he made his way toward the healers' quarters.

The castle seemed to hold its breath as Vaporeon moved with silent grace, each step purposeful and deliberate. His mind was focused, replaying the overheard conversation of the healers and the urgency of his task. He knew he had to act swiftly to eliminate the threat they posed to his growing power.

As he reached the healers' quarters, he found them gathered in a hushed conversation. Elara, Thane, and Liora were discussing Draegor's condition and their concerns about Vaporeon's dark magic.

"This is worse than we thought," Elara said, her voice a worried whisper. "The dark magic around Draegor is intensifying. We need to act quickly. "

Thane nodded. "We must find a way to escape. Vaporeon's power is growing too dangerous."

"Agreed," Liora added, her eyes filled with concern. "But how do we get past him? He's always watching."

Just as Liora finished her sentence, Vaporeon emerged from the shadows, his presence startling them. "You won't get the chance to run." he said coldly, his eyes glowing with malevolence.

Elara stepped forward, trying to reason with him. "Vaporeon, we are not your enemies. We only wish to help Draegor. Please, let us do our work."

Vaporeon dismissed her words with a sneer. "Lies and deceit. You plan to escape and then hunt me down. I won't allow it."

Before they could react, Vaporeon struck. Dark tendrils erupted from his hands, lashing out at the healers. The room was plunged into darkness as the shadows writhed and twisted, creating an ominous and chaotic atmosphere.

The healers quickly formed a protective barrier of light magic. The barrier glowed brightly, pushing back the shadows and illuminating the room. Elara and her colleagues began to counterattack with their healing magic, adapted for combat. They summoned beams of purifying light to strike at Vaporeon and the shadows.

"You will not prevail!" Elara shouted, her voice filled with determination. "We will protect Draegor and this castle from your darkness!"

Vaporeon laughed, a cold and menacing sound that echoed through the room. "You are fools to think you can stand against me."

With a swift motion, Vaporeon directed a tendril to strike at Thane, wrapping around his torso and pulling him into the darkness. Thane struggled, his face contorted in pain as the shadows tightened their grip.

"Release him!" Liora cried, her hands glowing with light as she launched a beam at Vaporeon.

Vaporeon dodged, the beam narrowly missing him. "Pathetic!" he taunted, his eyes gleaming with malice. "Is that the best you can do?"

Elara intensified her light magic, temporarily blinding Vaporeon and forcing him to release Thane. "We will not let you win, Vaporeon!" she vowed, her voice steady despite the chaos.

Vaporeon used the amulet to teleport short distances, evading the healers' attacks and striking from unexpected angles. His movements were swift and elusive, making it difficult for the healers to target him. He conjured a dark mist that filled the room, obscuring the healers' vision and muffling their senses. This gave him an advantage, allowing him to strike more effectively.

As he teleported behind Liora, he whispered in her ear, "You should have fled when you had the chance." He then slashed at her with a shadowy blade, causing her to cry out in pain and stumble backward.

Despite being initially overwhelmed, the healers started coordinating their attacks. They combined their light magic to form a concentrated beam, piercing through the dark mist and forcing Vaporeon to retreat. Elara used a spell to detect the source of Vaporeon's power, identifying the amulet. She signaled Liora to focus their attacks on the amulet, hoping to disrupt Vaporeon's control over the shadows.

"You think you can outsmart me?" Vaporeon growled, his anger rising. "I will show you the true meaning of fear."

The healers managed to land a few hits on Vaporeon, causing him to momentarily lose control of the shadows. The room brightened slightly as the darkness receded. Feeling the pressure, Vaporeon tapped into a deeper reserve of dark magic. He channeled all his power into his hand, transforming it into a shadowy sword capable of cutting through the healers' defenses.

He lunged at Thane, his blade clashing against Thane's hastily conjured light barrier. "You cannot protect yourself forever," Vaporeon hissed, pressing his attack. "Your light will falter, and you will fall."

Just as Vaporeon seemed to gain the upper hand, Malchior, Draegor's advisor, burst into the room with a sword in hand. He had sensed something was amiss and came to investigate.

"Stop this madness!" Malchior shouted, his eyes wide with horror as he took in the chaotic scene. "Vaporeon, you cannot continue down this path!"

Vaporeon, enraged by Malchior's interference, focused his attacks on him. The two engaged in a fierce battle, Vaporeon's shadow sword clashing against Malchior's steel blade.

"You are a fool to stand against me, Malchior!" Vaporeon snarled, his attacks becoming more frenzied. "You should have stayed out of this!"

Malchior parried Vaporeon's strikes, his face set with determination. "I will not let you destroy this castle!" he declared, his voice resolute.

The healers, taking advantage of the distraction, regrouped and prepared a final coordinated attack. They channeled their combined power into a single, devastating beam of light aimed directly at Vaporeon.

Vaporeon, using the amulet, absorbed the brunt of the attack, but it shattered the amulet in the process. The explosion of dark energy knocked everyone back, leaving the room in disarray. Despite the amulet's destruction, Vaporeon's connection to the shadows remained strong. He felt the dark energy coursing through him, an unrelenting force that fueled his resolve. As he stood amidst the wreckage, the healers and Malchior lay on the ground, weakened and vulnerable. Vaporeon knew he had to act swiftly to eliminate them once and for all.

"You thought you could defeat me?" Vaporeon taunted, his voice dripping with contempt as he stepped toward the fallen healers. "You are nothing compared to the power I wield."

Elara, clutching her side, struggled to rise. "This... isn't over, Vaporeon," she gasped, her voice weak but defiant. "The mage guild... they will come for you."

Vaporeon sneered, dark tendrils snaking from his hands. "Let them come," he said coldly. "I will destroy anyone who dares to challenge me."

With a swift motion, Vaporeon lashed out with the shadow tendrils, ensnaring Thane and Liora. The tendrils tightened around their bodies, lifting them into the air. They gasped for breath, their faces contorted in pain.

"You cannot win," Thane managed to choke out, his voice strained. "Your darkness... will consume you."

Vaporeon laughed, a sound devoid of humor. "The darkness is my ally," he declared. "It gives me strength beyond your comprehension."

He tightened his grip, the tendrils squeezing the life from the healers. Their struggles grew weaker, their faces paling as the shadows drained their remaining energy. With one final, crushing twist, Vaporeon snapped their necks, letting their lifeless bodies fall to the ground.

Turning to Malchior, Vaporeon found the advisor trying to crawl away, his sword lying uselessly beside him. Malchior looked up, his eyes filled with a mix of fear and anger.

"Vaporeon," Malchior rasped, his voice trembling. "You are... a monster."

Vaporeon approached him slowly, savoring the moment. "A monster?" he echoed, a cruel smile playing on his lips. "No, Malchior. I am power incarnate. I am the master of the shadows."

Malchior tried to lift his sword, but his strength had waned. Vaporeon reached down, gripping Malchior's throat and lifting him effortlessly. "Any last words?" he asked, his tone mocking.

"You... will fall," Malchior whispered, his voice barely audible. "The light... will prevail."

Vaporeon tightened his grip, silencing Malchior's final words. "Not today," he said softly, a dark satisfaction in his eyes. With a surge of shadow magic, he drained the life from Malchior, the advisor's body going limp in his grasp.

As Vaporeon surveyed the lifeless bodies of the healers and Malchior, he knew he needed to dispose of them discreetly. The castle's inhabitants were already on edge, and the sight of the corpses would only fuel their fear and suspicion.

Vaporeon knelt beside the bodies, his eyes glowing with dark intent. He summoned the shadows, feeling their cold embrace as they wrapped around him. "Consume them." he whispered, his voice filled with a chilling command.

The shadows responded eagerly, flowing from his hands and enveloping the bodies. The room grew colder, the darkness thickening as the shadows began to absorb the lifeless forms. The bodies seemed to dissolve into the darkness, their features blurring and fading until nothing remained but the swirling shadows.

As the last remnants of the bodies vanished, Vaporeon stood, the shadows receding back into him. He felt their energy mingling with his own, a reminder of the power he now wielded. "There will be no evidence," he said to himself, a satisfied smile playing on his lips. "No one will know what happened here."

He walked to the window, looking out over the darkened landscape. The castle was silent, the night deep and foreboding. He could sense the fear and uncertainty in the air, the whispers of those who suspected but did not dare to speak openly.

Vaporeon turned away from the window, his mind already planning his next move. He needed more power. The fight had revealed his vulnerabilities; his magic, potent as it was, had been countered by the healers' light. He needed to ensure that no one else could ever challenge his authority.

"The fight showed me my limits," he muttered to himself, his eyes narrowing with determination. "I need more power. I must become unstoppable."

The path ahead was fraught with danger, but he welcomed it. The power and destiny he sought were within his reach, and he would seize them with both hands.

With a final glance around the room, Vaporeon left.
