In the world of Volos a small part of the people were born special. Their bodies were mutated and had special abilities. Every country had their own organization to manage these people. Whether to detain them because of their danger or to use them for societies betterment, these organizations were called Mutant Human Control Center or MHCC for short.

Humans could mutate and gain abilities but was this limited only to humankind? No. Animals could also mutate and so could plants. In fact Volos was divided into three territories. These territories were further divided into countries, habitats and forests for humans, animals and plants.

On a small island named Selicia close to the biggest continent, Ventia, lived a boy sixteen years old. His parents had left him on this island with an old couple when he was a baby and never came to see him again. Even though he knew that the old couple were not his blood related parents, he considered them to be his real and only family.

Selicia was a shelter for ships to stop by to rest and restock before continuing to the mainland. It also acted as a beacon with it's lighthouse so that the ships don't get lost.

The boys name was Theodore but others called him Teddy. He didn't know his actual surname so he used the old couple's last name Storm.

Today was a special day for Teddy because the old couple had decided it was safe enough for him to eat mutated meat. Children couldn't eat it because it caused uncontrolled mutations to occur in the body, causing painful incidents and sometimes death. Generally it was safe to eat mutated meat after ten years of age but the old couple, Henry and Gizzelle didn't want to take the risk of losing their precious child. In fact most parents in the world didn't let their child eat mutated meat ever.

If eating mutated meat carried such risks then why would anyone eat it in the first place? The reason lied in the fact that eating it strengthened the body and could allow one to actually become a stable mutant. Once you became a mutant you could eat mutated meat however much you want.

Teddy spent most of his time fishing at a small cliff on the edge of the island. Once he gathered his daily quota he grabbed his buckets and dashed to the village. On the way he saw other residents of the island and nodded at them. Finally he reached a fairly well off house near the center of the village. Henry and Gizzelle could be considered rich. They were spending their retirement on this island looking after Teddy.

Ding dong.

After waiting for a couple of seconds, the door opened. An old woman with grizzled hair was at the door. From her appearance it could be judged that she was quite the beauty in her youth.

"Teddy! Welcome home. How was your hunt?"

Teddy shows his buckets.

"Hey mom. I've caught the same amount as always."

"As expected of my son."

Gizzelle showed a proud expression. As if to say, 'look, this is my son.' Meanwhile Teddy had an expression on his face which showed his hunger.

"Mom. Is the meat ready?"

Gizzelle responded with a smile.

"Can't you smell it?"

"Then what are we waiting for? Come on."

Teddy entered the house and poured the fish in the freezer. After washing his hands and face, he went to the dining room. The dining room had red walls and a red carpet with a black round table that had one big plate in the middle and three smaller plates on the edge. The center plate had a big fish lying on it. It had been cleaned and cooked. The smell was irresistable. There was one person already sitting at the table. He was also old and had grizzly hair like Gizzelle. He was Henry, Teddy's adoptive father.

"Dad!"

"Teddy!"

Teddy ran towards him while Henry also got up.

Bam!

Teddy slammed into Henry with a hug.

"I missed you."

"I missed you too."

Henry was a fisherman and merchant. So he regularly went fishing at the sea or to the mainland to buy goods with his boat. His last journey had taken a couple of weeks. It was no surprise that Teddy was excited to see him.

"It's your big day Teddy. Are you ready for your first mutated meal?"

"Yes. I've be ready for a while now."

"Good. I've pulled some strings and got you an extra special mutant. It's a queen triggerfish with the ability of super fast swimming. Normally augmentative powers like high speed or strength are common and one doesn't even need to mutate. They can just eat mutated meat and get stronger. But this one, hohhoo boy. Normally it shouldn't have been caught. It had been seen by fishermen a few times before. They called it The Flying Queen. This fish had the habit of jumping out of water with high speed and just flying for a couple hundred meters before falling down. This time it's luck ran out however. It fell onto a ship and ended up in my hands."

"Wow! Thank you dad. You're the best."

"Now now. You should eat it before it gets cold."

With Gizzelle's intervention everyone sat on their chair. Teddy picked up the knife and fork and carried pieces of meat onto his plate. After closing his eyes for a couple of seconds he forked a piece of meat and brought it to his mouth.

Chew chew chew, gulp.

"It's delicious!"

Teddy started gobbling the meat. Henry and Gizzelle also ate a few pieces on the edge but they left most of it for Teddy. Pretty soon the plates were clean, every piece of meat eaten.

Burp!

"Ugh. I'm stuffed full. Thank you again for letting me eat mutated meat."

"It's not like we could've stopped you forever so we decided to get you the best meat. Your first time is special after all."

"You should go rest now. Mutated meat shows it's effects best when the body is at rest."

After saying good night to Henry and Gizzelle, Teddy went to his room, laid down on his bed and immediately fell asleep. That night Teddy slept like a baby. As always right when the sun was showing it's first rays of light Teddy woke up. In front of his eyes was a face, his own face to be exact.
