Dracula's POV
"What happened to the baby? You said he was healthy." I searched into Kyle's eyes for anything.
"I'm sorry, Dracula. He was healthy, but overnight, he kept coughing until he spilled his guts out." Kyle explained further. I felt my heart fall to my chest.
Kyle's lips were moving, but I couldn't make out words of what he was saying. This was the eighth baby that had died.
It all started from the last village I destroyed years back. The village witch cursed me. She said I would have no heirs until I learned to love myself and the girl with the crescent moon on her back. I had no idea what it meant until it started happening.
I mean, the death of all the sons my mistresses gave birth to for me. It's impossible to love myself, not to talk of anyone else. The pack had revealed the person who would give me an heir, and now, she was here.
But of course, she turned out to be a 19 year old mouth running worm.
"Dracula ?" Kyle called out when he sensed I was trapped in my world.
I stared up at him tiredly. "Do you think I should just give up? I mean, you are my beta, your family can continue the bloodline."
"That's nonsense!" He rolled his eyes as if I had just said the most crazy thing ever. "It's quite the opposite. All hope is not lost. You still have the girl with the crescent moon..."
"Yes, until she finds her mate, and she won't belong to me anymore."
************
Within seconds, another wolf came into view, its gaze fixed on her. The wolf seemed familiar, but I struggled to recall who exactly it was.
An angry growl rumbled deep within me as my possessive wolf took control. I lunged forward, enraged that this wolf dared to enter my territory and even look at Enisa!
With quick reflexes, the wolf dodged my attack and positioned itself defensively.
"What the heck!" Enisa screamed, reaching for the cloth beside her and hastily pulling on the long polo. She stared at us in fear.
Bones the brown colored wolf in front of me shifted into human form. I followed suit, transforming completely. Jacob, my half-brother, stood before me, towel wrapped around his waist. I did the same, tying a towel around my waist.
"Hello, brother," Jacob greeted with a smile
"What are you doing here?" I asked, still angry about him watching Enisa undress. Though we hadn't been close, we had always maintained a cordial relationship.
"Don't tell me you're not happy to see me," He rolled his eyes.
"Sorry to interrupt your little reunion," Enisa interjected, walking over to us. She still wore the long polo that exposed more than half of her thighs. "But what are both of you doing here?"
"Apologies my lady," Jacob bowed and placed a hand over his chest. "I was passing by and caught your magnificent scent. I had to follow it, and it led me to you. I am mesmerized by your beauty," He took her hands in his and kissed them gently.
Suppressing the anger that surged within me, I folded my arms. I didn't understand why I felt this possessive rage towards Enisa, especially since I didn't even like her.
Enisa's POV
"I like him, I wish he could be our mate," Sky mumbled in my head, but I pushed the thought away. I couldn't help but smile, though.
"My wife," Dracula growled, almost imperceptibly. He placed an arm around my shoulder and pulled me closer. "You're talking to my wife."
His territorial behavior surprised me, considering he didn't seem interested in me just hours ago.
"Oh my!" Jacob exclaimed, clasping a hand over his mouth. "I knew you had just gotten married, but I had no idea she was so dazzling. I'd give anything for her to be mine."
He skied at me again, but a glance from Dracula made him clear his throat.
"You can head back to the mansion. I'll meet you when I'm done." Dracula said, and Jacob nodded before leaving.
I shuddered, pulling away from Dracula's hold as if he carried a contagious illness I wanted to avoid.
"Why the hell were you dressing out in the open where everyone could see you?" He frowned, turning to me.
"Said this area was only for the alpha, and I could come here since I was your wife..." I stopped myself, struggling to say the word. It had only been a day since we got married, and so much had already happened.
He stated at me, his eyes scanning down my thighs. I could feel his gaze lingering at the scar that held painful memories.
"Where did you get that?" He asked, his eyes fixated on the scar.
"What do you mean?" I tried to feign ignorance, pretending not to understand what he was referring to. But deep down, I knew exactly what he meant.
"Don't play dumb with me, Enisa. You know exactly what I'm talking about. What caused that scar?"
I looked down, a wave of sadness washing over me. That was a part of me I never wanted to reveal, a part I had concealed for so long.
"Please, can I not talk about it? I don't want to discuss it."
"I am your alpha, and I command you to speak."
"I was sexually assaulted, okay? I was assaulted by my stepfather when I was 12. He gave me that scar and put a charm on it, so whenever I told someone about it, he would torture me by accusing me of lying and making me doubt myself. I resorted to self-harm as a coping mechanism." I blurted out angrily. "I hope you're satisfied now."
His angry expression softened, and for the first time, I saw a flicker of emotion in his eyes. I didn't wait for his sympathy or pity. U ran off, back to where she said she would be waiting for me.
