"..." At that last sentence, Victor stopped for a moment. "God, huh…"
[Yes, I am indeed God. But, you don't need to concern yourself with that currently. What you should know is that you have indeed died… And I have made sure you arrive in this world.]
"Why?" Victor frowned.
[I am sure you are wondering 'Why?' and I'm also sure you aren't quite satisfied with this decision.]
"You really know too much about me," Victor muttered. "Way too much."
'But I guess this is his way of proving that he's God. Is he watching me now? I can't tell.' He mused.
Surprisingly, Victor didn't feel too annoyed by this. Granted, he didn't like nosy fools who tried to know things about him, but since he was talking to God, things like this were within the realm of predictability.
[The simple answer to all those questions is: it would've been too wasteful to let you die.]
Victor slowly brought the piece of paper closer to his eyes to read as if he couldn't believe what he was seeing.
[You don't need to read it that multiple times, it is exactly what I said. I had my eyes on you ever since you were born. I have seen how you were honed into an absolute killing machine with no remorse or hesitation. A man who never failed a single mission. You were too good for that world, weren't you? So much so, that you have lost your will to live there.]
"..."
[That is why, I have brought you to a world where your talent will truly shine. You are special, Victor. Someone who befits a realm where you need every single ounce of your talent to truly rise to greatness.]
"... What is this guy blabbering about?" Rubbing his temples as if he felt a headache, Victor looked at the letter again. He didn't know whether to be angry at the fact that this God had done that or be flattered by all the compliments. Perhaps he should be confused by his weird way of phrasing things.
[I can see that expression on your face even without looking. I am NOT insane! Nor am I evil. I am but a bored God, wishing to see something worth my time. Which brings us to the core of the matter. I have put you in a world called 'Veritla'. The next page shows a map of the world. Although considering this letter is very old, the map could be different from the current times a little.]
Reading that, Victor pulled to the next page and looked at it. Indeed, a map was drawn across it. Examining it, Victor noticed many details about it. So many in fact, he couldn't really know where to start.
So, instead, he returned to the letter. The wise thing to do was to first finish the letter and then focus on the map.
[Good idea, finish the letter first.]
"... I already hate him." Victor rubbed his temples. At this point, he wasn't even surprised this God was reading his mind even though he wasn't talking to him and instead simply reading a letter the God left behind. He didn't know how that was possible and he frankly couldn't bother.
There were far bigger problems than that. For example, the fact that Victor was brought to another world against his will!
"Sigh…" Resting his back on the sofa, he lifted the letter to read the letter in that position with an emotionless look on his face. "This is a sick joke."
After all that, and when he finally thought he was over with that hell people called life, he was somehow still alive. How much did death despise him? Was it that hard for this world to simply accept that he was dead? Now even some kind of God wished for him to not die.
[Fear not, Victor. You might think that this is a bad outcome. For your soul to not simply vanish. I do know about your pain. But, hear me out when I say this… Your hatred for life itself, or perhaps your apathy toward it… All of that is the result of the lack of a will. There was really nothing in that world worth living for. Have you known happiness before? Have you known what it felt like to be alive?]
'... No.' Victor replied to that question in his head almost immediately. He had years to think about all those questions the god posed, and the answer was a clear and precise 'No'. He had never really found joy in life, nor did he see it as something worth living.
He was basically forced into this life, forced into doing what a bunch of other people wanted, and then forced to stay in that life for years. One would ask: Why not leave? But the answer Victor had to that was ironically a question of his own: Where do I go?
Outside his work, he had nothing else. He had no friends, family or anywhere he could go. Leaving the job he was molded into since birth was indeed a very hard thing to do.
[That answer, you have known it for such a long time. So, have you never been curious about what true life is like? What happiness is like? What having a goal, a dream, and a purpose is all about?]
'... I did.'
[Then, when you are met with another chance at life. A chance where all your shackles are gone, and your only limit is yourself. Why not take it?]
"..." Victor stared at that last question for a while. 'Why not take it, you say? I have never thought about it.' He thought to himself. 'Another chance in life… For what, though? I have no purpose to work for… Can I take happiness as a purpose when I don't even know how it feels like?'
[You have nothing to lose if you give this a chance. Perhaps you might not regret living in the end.]
Blinking slowly, Victor took a moment to consider those words. As much as he hated this supposed God, he couldn't deny that he had a point. He had already left that past life behind, whether he vanished, or started anew, both were viable options.
"I guess… There is no harm in seeing what this place is all about since I'm here?" He rubbed the back of his head thoughtfully.
[I can see that you are convinced. That is indeed the spirit, Victor. Now that we are on the same page (The pun was fully intended, by the way).]
Victor rolled his eyes as he ignored the stupid joke the God said. He was too humorous for his own good.
[Since we are on the same page, let's talk about the important things. To begin with, your current location. You are now on a remote island in the Northern Archipelago. There is nobody on this island other than you so rest assured. However, I do not recommend remaining on this island.]
"What should I do then?"
[Exactly 30 days from now, there is something important that will happen on the nearest island from your current point to the north. You do not need me to tell you what that thing is, I am sure you will be more excited getting to discover it on your own. I have left a small boat for you near this house to you as your means of travel.]
"What kind of thing is he talking about?"
Even though he had no idea what the God meant, it did certainly pick his interest.
[However, do not leave this island immediately. There are a few things you might want to do before actually going out and exploring this world… Something that might pick your interest.]
