Chereads / Billionaire's Fake Bride / Chapter 38 - The announcement

Chapter 38 - The announcement

The car, a Mercedes, that Paul is driving pulls into the driveway of my parents' house.

The security guy exits his booth and walks over to the vehicle. He then approaches the car.

I lower the glass of my door. "Evan,"

He breaks into a broad grin before his eyes. Mr. Walker, please. We are happy to have you here. Whose car are you currently riding in?

Using his hand, Paul lowers his window. "Come on, man. My name is Paul Gotti, and I am currently staying at Alanie's.

"Hi, Alanie." The moment Evan glances at my sister, he begins to flush. He has had a crush on her since the beginning, and seeing a new guy with her causes him a great deal of pain.

Evan focuses on me. " Your parents are waiting for you." At our request, he opens the gate.

"Bye, Evan." As the car moves away from the gate, I wave to him courteously.

When the car pulls up in front of the house, the mother screams and dashes out the door. "They're here."

Before I could even unlock my door, my mother had already opened it and hugged me. "Why are you excited to see me?" I inquire of her. I am observing Alanie and Paul in the mirror. Is it not more likely that you would be more pleased about meeting the boyfriend of your other daughter? We are not talking about the daughter who was shot a week and a half ago.

My mom gives me a whack on the shoulder. "You didn't visit me after you were discharged."

"I was too exhausted, Mom. Are you aware of how difficult it is to doze off when in the hospital? I was forced to spend the entire night listening to the beeping of machines and the nurses waking us up so that they could check on us.

A step is taken away from me by my mother. "I've never been in hospital for as long as you."

Alanie gives her an embrace as he approaches her. "Hey, Mom." It is Paul who is the recipient of her hand. "I want you to meet my boyfriend, Paul."

He smiles friendly. "Good evening, Mrs Walker." He extends his hand to her. "It's nice to meet you."

Instead of taking his hand, Mom embraces him and dismisses his requests. "It's nice to meet you too." In the space between Alanie and him, she looks. "You make my daughter happy."

Paul gives Alanie a hug of his own. "She makes me happy."

I can sense that Mom is trying to bring up what happened to me at his residence, but she is hesitant because she does not want him to have a negative impression of her. Mother stares at me.

When Dad comes out of the house, he calls out to Paul.

A little while later, Taylor and Walden leave the house and go to Paul. They are walking in the same direction.

Immediately before making their way over to me, they introduce themselves to Paul.

I am dragged alongside Taylor by his side. "Where's Melvin?"

It's getting late for him. Producing a movie requires significant time and work, and he only has time to do it in a second.

"You sound like you have experience on a set."

I chuckle to myself. "No, I just listen to Melvin complain about how many takes he needs to do until the scene is perfect in the director's eyes."

Our mother ushers us inside the home, and we decide to sit in the living room while my parents interrogate Paul.

Melvin arrives at my parents ' house only a few minutes before supper is served. He apologizes to everyone for his tardiness.

A glance is exchanged between Taylor and Walden with him.

Taylor looks at his mother. Could you please pardon me for a few minutes? I have a very important conversation with Walden and Melvin.

She gives him a look. "Come on, men, hurry up. My goal is to prevent your food from becoming cold.

Immediately, they leave the room.

A moment before I can rise, Alanie grabs my hand. "Do not move. I do not doubt that they do not wish you to know what they discovered.

As well, does Alanie have any idea what's going on?

Mom brings the food over and then places it on the table in front of us at the restaurant. "Boys," she says to them.

Returning to the room, Taylor, Walden, and Melvin are seen walking in.

The father opens a bottle of red wine and begins to pour a glass for each of the guests.

Alanie gives her father a look, and she says. "I can't drink."

An expression of surprise may be seen on Taylor's face. "Are you..."

His mother interrupts him. "Pregnant?"

Alanie gives a slight nod.

When she hears her mother cry, she rushes over to her. Upon receiving Alanie's congratulations, she hugs her and asks, "I'm going to be a Nan?"

Dad stands up from his seat and extends his hand to Paul, congratulating him on his achievement.

According to Paul, "Sir," "Can I talk to you after dinner?"

He breaks into a broad grin before his eyes. "Yes, you can." She bursts out laughing when he whispers anything in Alanie's ear.

To my delight, she is content.

She stares at me, and her smile vanishes as she slowly comes to terms with the possibility that I will not be a part of her life.

I removed my phone from my pocket and sent a message to Paul. I am awaiting his response.

In the space between Paul and I, Alanie looks. "What are you two doing?"

As I do so, my phone is re-inserted into my bag. "Nothing. Why would you think we're up to something, little sis?"

She gestured at Paul's phone. "Paul had his phone angled to the side, which prevented me from reading the message, and you had your phone resting on the table," she said. I needed to put two and two together, and I determined that you were planning something I would not be pleased with.

I agree with her. That is precisely what we are doing, but we cannot allow her to remain in Los Angeles while my life is in jeopardy. This is especially true considering that the next three months are a key period for her pregnancy.

Having finished the glass of wine in front of me, I pour another glass for myself.

I am the focus of Melvin's attention. "You should slow down, Kathy."

I say this while turning towards him. "After the last two weeks I've had, I deserve to let loose."

It is a sigh. "You are correct. What I don't want is for you to use alcohol as a means of distracting yourself from your troubles.

"I won't." I point to his empty glass. Do you want some more?"

"Sure," he says, holding his glass to me, and I pour more of the drink. I won't have to report to the set tomorrow night at eleven o'clock. The studio intends to conduct some night shots for the film.

That is very great. You assured me that you would bring me onset, wasn't that right?

He touched my hand. I am still going to. My co-star will announce that she will be inviting her husband tomorrow evening. Do you wish to accompany me on this trip?

My head nods. "It sounds like a date."

It's a laugh. The date will come soon. In the time between takes, we can make out in my trailer.

In response, my brothers frowned and said, "We don't want to hear what you're going to do with our baby sister."

In addition, Taylor says. You are going to need to exercise caution with her arm. As a result, she does not require her stitches to tear.

The very last part causes Paul to grimace.

I inquire when I turn to face him. "Why did you wince when they mentioned the part the stitches to tear?"

He reveals the bullet wound that is located on his shoulder by undoing the button that is located at the top of his shirt. "Just like yourself, it was a shot that went through. When I was assisting my brothers in their pursuit of an individual who intended to harm my family, I completely tore the sutures out. The only way for my folks to hear him is if he whispers. "I suggest you don't do any heavy lifting."

I inquire while stooping over the table. "Did you have sex?"

It is a laugh. "Yeah, I just made sure she did all the work."

Without a doubt, he did.

Dad remarks while looking at Paul from the other side of the table. "What do you do for work, Paul?"

Paul shifts in his seat, which causes him discomfort. "I'm the manager of one of my brother's companies."

"Do I know the company?" His work for his brother piques Dad's interest.

"Gotti Holdings."

It isn't easy to see Dad's fork against his plate. "Oh," Mom says with a smile. "There was a day when I met your mother. Indeed, she was a lovely lady.

When Paul smiles, certainly, she is. Unfortunately, she tied the knot with a..."

An "asshole," Dad says in response. He was not the friendliest guy in the neighborhood. In the distant past, I had the opportunity to collaborate with your father for several months. Even one of his sons was shown to be beaten by him.

Paul becomes more rigid. "I can recall that day. The one who was beaten up by Dad was Quinn. "He was the son who was most favored for being beaten."

"How is your brother?"

"He's good, Sir."

If you have other siblings, what about them? If my recollection serves me correctly, there were nine children.

I had to change the subject since I noticed Paul looking uneasy. "Melvin, how was the scene you filmed today?"

He was beaming with happiness as he smiled. "It was wonderful... They allowed me to ride a motorcycle, and I even shot a sequence that involved action.

I inquire while crossing my arms. "What happened to the romantic side of it?"

"The writers expressed their opinion that it would be good if I did some action scenes for it. While riding the motorcycle, I noticed a woman, and my eyes were focused on her as I ran into the back of the car, attempting to catch up with her. In front of her, I land after flying across the car and say something. "Have you fallen through the heavens? I can see an angel standing in front of me.

All of the people present laugh.

I give a head shake. "I hope the audience will find that scene adorable."

"They will when they see me on the ground."

To spend the day together without being disturbed by anybody else, Melvin and I say our goodbyes to my parents, my brothers, Paul, and Alanie after dinner. We want to spend the day together.

********

When the limo arrives, it pulls up before the home.

Melvin grasps my hand. The remainder of the journey to the residence will be accomplished on foot. Before we behave in the same manner as we did in the limo, I would like to spend more time with you.

While we are climbing the path to the home, I gulp the bottle of wine I have picked up and placed in front of me.

Melvin took the bottle away from me. "You need to share, beautiful."

I am displeased.

It is a laugh. "Please don't stare at me like that. I'm not going to engage with that.

"It works on your brother."

It is a laugh. "Yeah, that's because he's a sucker for a beautiful woman." Melvin comforts me by placing his arm around my shoulder. "While working on movies, I had the opportunity to analyze women. I didn't want to be a victim of their manipulation because they were skilled. That way, I couldn't hold you in my arms.

When I look at him, I declare. The truth is that you do not have me. Michelle is still here. I know you have attempted to end the relationship with her, but she has said that she does not wish to go through with it. The fact that I want to have sex with you makes me a bad person, right?

The man shakes his head. You're not a terrible person at all. This is what happens when two people who love each other do it. What a terrible situation it is that I am unable to remove Michelle from our lives.

"Let's not worry about it and deal with the consequences when the time comes." I leap onto his back, and he carries me to the home. I am very grateful.

He then takes a drink from the bottle that was provided to him.

As soon as the door to the mansion opens, we see the butler. His hand is holding a rifle, and he points it in our direction, "Don't move."

"I suggest that you put the gun away. Hello, my name is Melvin Williams.

The butler now stores the gun away. I am truly sorry, Sir. It had not occurred to me that you were walking to the house. As far as I can tell, Darrel did not phone me. He is supposed to be at the gate.

There was no one else there that I can recall seeing.

I am the focus of Melvin's attention. "He wasn't there, was he?"

I give a head shake.

Calling Quinn, he takes his phone out of his pocket and dials his number. Would you be able to send someone to my location? Someone must be in charge of patrolling the perimeter and ensuring that my security staff has not been murdered.

Immediately before he hangs up the phone, there is a brief silence.

It is Melvin who transports me to the house. "No one is going to ruin the moment between us in the bedroom."
