Chapter 28 - Kitchen assistance

Someone knocks on the door to my bedroom on Sunday morning, which wakes me up. "Come on," I yell.

Melvin walks in as the door opens, and I see him enter. After going over to the bed, he sits next to me. "Our parents are currently preparing food in the kitchen. They have invited our siblings to join them for breakfast, and they want to have breakfast with us.

I had hoped that today would be a relaxing day, but our families here won't make it relaxing at all. Damn it.

I am displeased. "Can't we tell them to leave?"

Melvin gives his head a shake. "They are putting in a lot of effort in the kitchen. Should we make sure that all of their laborious efforts aren't wasted?

When I'm on the bed, I move around. "Fine, but give me an extra half hour of sleep before I come down."

The door opens again, and I see my mother standing with a wooden spoon. "It's time to get out of bed." She approaches me and begins swinging the spoon at me as she walks over to me. "I heard what you said to Melvin about kicking us out."

I am focused on her. "Are you crazy, Mom?"

Once more, she strikes me. Indeed, I am. I never imagined that one of my children would advise their partner to get rid of me. I never anticipated that I would hear that.

Taking a seat in the bed, I glance at her. I wanted to take some time off today, Mom. With everyone in the house, how am I supposed to accomplish that?

She draws my attention to the wooden spoon. "I wanted to surprise my daughter with breakfast and thank her for getting my other kids a job." Then she approaches me and sits down on the bed. "Are you still tired from the late night you had last night?"

Because they were in San Francisco, Mom and Dad could not attend last night's revelation. Dad was the only person who could fix something at his company.

"On the way here, your father and I saw the billboards, and you look beautiful." She kisses me on the crown of my head. Once she opens the top drawer, she takes out a piece of paper. Can I get your autograph? You have achieved fame now.

I chuckle and then sign the document. "What's better than an autograph from your daughter?"

The moment Mom smiles, her entire face lightens up with joy. "A picture with your daughter," I say while holding my phone to Melvin. Can you take a picture of Mom and me?"

When Melvin approaches me, he takes the phone away and walks away. "Say cheese."

Melvin says, "Cheese," and then hands the phone back to me after taking the picture.

The photo is awe-inspiring. I will send it to Mom: "I have just sent the picture to you, Mom." Put it away from the internet. Nobody wants to see me in my pajamas and with a poor hair day. I don't want them to see me like that.

"I will not. Let's go ahead and take a shower. In thirty minutes, breakfast will be ready for you to enjoy. Towards Melvin, she twists her head. "We could use some help in the kitchen."

Melvin gives his head a shake. "I need to help Katherine with the shower."

As I look at him, I continue to cross my arms. "What's wrong with shower?"

Whenever you try to open the door, it becomes stuck. "You need to put in a lot of effort."

That's how it is.

I can sense that he is lying from the bottom of his heart. "Worst of it! You are simply making up things to say to avoid contributing to the situation. At the same time, as I am gathering the items I need for the shower, I stick my tongue out at him.

As I enter the bedroom with the attached bathroom, I turn to Melvin and implore, "Please don't burn my waffles."

To prevent myself from hearing his reaction, I close the door.

When I get down there, he will be irritated all over again.

I opened the door to the shower that had not become stuck, and I adjusted the water's temperature with my hand.

Following the removal of my clothing, I go to enter the shower and position myself beneath the shower spray.

When I turn my head to the side, the water begins to pour around me. Before I apply shampoo to my hair, I take a moment to close my eyes and focus my attention on something else. Before making my way back under the water, I thoroughly comb it.

I change into a pair of jeans and a top that has the word "Bitch" printed across it after I have finished showering. Moreover, it is written in smaller letters. "Beautiful, Intelligent, Talented, Charming, Hell of a woman."

After going to a thrift store, Alanie returned with the top she had bought for me. She thought it was my ideal choice and brought it to me.

Since Alanie bought it for me three months ago, this is the first time I have worn it.

First, I let my hair dry, then I remove the knots with a comb, and last, I pull my hair back into a bun.

Exiting the restroom, I find the door to my bedroom is already open.

A scream escapes my mouth as I turn around and discover someone lying on my bed.

With a shift of his head, Alanie glances at me. "Why did you scream?"

It came as a surprise to me to find you lying on the bed. I was under the impression that Melvin and Mom had not shut the door to my bedroom. "You were sitting on my bed in complete silence and did not utter a single word."

"I'm sorry," she says as she approaches me. Breakfast is almost ready to be served. Melvin has a spatula in his room, and the door to the bedroom is flung open. Mom and Mrs. Williams sent me to your room to get you. "Where's the burglar?"

I chuckle to myself. "Melvin, there must not be a burglar. I am curious as to what you intend to do with the spatula. Kill him by swabbing him."

We both can't help but laugh.

I get a glare from him. "This was the first thing I could grab when I heard you scream."

I shove Alanie. You smack her at her. She is the one who caused me to let out a scream. I was surprised to see her seated on my bed because I had not anticipated anyone else being there.

After walking over to Alanie, Melvin strikes her on the arm with his fist.

"Ouch," she screams out in pain.

Laughing, I say, "Baby," as I pass through the door.

Alanie starts stroking her arm when she realizes she has caught up to me. "Why didn't you protect your little sister from Melvin?"

My shoulders shrug as I glance at her and say. "Maybe you won't scare someone in their bedroom next time."

It is between Melvin and I that she looks. Should the two of you be engaged? Why don't you sleep in the same bed as me?

I stare at Melvin with the expectation that he will provide me with an answer to the question, but he turns his head away. "Melvin is just a snorer. I can't sleep because I can't stop hearing him throughout the night.

Although I am making noises similar to snoring, Alanie begins to chuckle.

"That's terrible sleeping with someone that does that." Her face begins to become red and hot. I had a relationship with a man who snored in the past. He was excellent when you wanted to sleep, but he was dreadful when you tried to sleep. It sounded like he was a car. Several times, I kicked him. Then, approximately one minute later, he would resume what he had been doing. One night, I recorded it for him, and I showed it to him the following day. "Are you aware of what transpired with the most wonderful lie of my life?"

"What?" Melvin has a question.

"He did not return once. It could be connected to the video I had of him. While pondering the guy, she develops a look of disinterest on her face.

Melvin lays his hand on his chest and places it there. "That's touching." As soon as he enters the kitchen, he assists our mothers in bringing everything into the dining room, where everyone is seated.
