Suddenly, Brock's squinting eyes flashed with a bright light, and he rushed to Officer Jenny with a dramatic sliding step, grabbing her hand.
"Officer Jenny! I've come here to meet my destiny with you," he proclaimed, his usual stern demeanor melting into one of deep affection as he gently held Officer Jenny's hand.
Well...
Everyone was a bit speechless at the scene. Although they had known Brock for a long time, they hadn't had the chance to keep a close eye on him before. Now, they were witnessing his true nature firsthand.
"Uh... hehehe..." Officer Jenny was caught off guard, so embarrassed that she didn't know how to respond. She could only smile awkwardly.
"So this is his real character..." Misty muttered, feeling a bit taken aback by what she was seeing.
Originally, she had a good impression of Brock—responsible, caring, and dependable, almost the ideal man. But now, seeing him act so flirtatiously, Misty began to see Brock in a different light.
It didn't make her think less of him—after all, they hadn't known each other that long—but she couldn't help but be surprised that Brock's flaw was his tendency to flirt.
"Hmm... After being suppressed for so long, it's natural for him to let loose," Ash commented, not particularly bothered by the situation since he already knew about Brock's behavior.
Although Brock could be overly flirtatious at times, Ash knew he wasn't inappropriate and had never crossed any lines. Ash also recognized that Brock's journey in finding love would likely be a rocky one.
Despite his ability to act like a parental figure, Brock had a warmer side that came out when he interacted with girls he fancied, particularly those older than him.
"Aren't I a girl too? And a cute one at that! Why doesn't he respond to me at all?" Misty suddenly felt a bit miffed by Ash's words.
If this was Brock's character, what did it mean that he hadn't tried to flirt with her? Did that mean she wasn't attractive enough?
"Uh..." Ash didn't know what to say when he heard her. Was she upset about Brock's behavior, or was she angry that he hadn't flirted with her?
Ash couldn't help but glance at Misty, then at Officer Jenny, and sighed helplessly. He spread his hands and shook his head.
"Well!"
Even Pikachu, standing next to him, shook his head with his little arms crossed, his tiny fangs showing as he nodded in agreement, as if understanding why Ash was shaking his head.
"What do you mean? Even Pikachu is acting like this! Sooner or later, I'll grow up and be a mature big sister, okay?"
Misty looked at Ash, confused by his reaction. She glanced down at herself, then blushed and shouted in frustration.
Seymour, observing the scene, could only watch helplessly...
Then Misty turned her attention to Brock, walking over angrily. This was all his fault. Brock, still lost in his romantic daydream, didn't notice the approaching storm.
"Weren't you supposed to become a Pokémon Breeder? Since when did it turn into a fateful encounter?"
As she spoke, Misty grabbed Brock's ear and dragged him away, despite his pained groans.
"Uh... Is that Pokémon one captured by poachers?" Officer Jenny asked, relieved to see Brock being pulled away. She glanced at Ash's Axew.
"Yes, that's the one. We might need your help sending it back home," Seymour replied. Axew noticed everyone's gaze but didn't react, merely lowering its head slightly.
"Of course, that's our job. What about you, Professor? Are you planning to stay?" Officer Jenny asked.
"Me? The research at this stage is complete, so I'll head back with you," Seymour responded. He had seen everything he needed, and it was time to leave. He knew not to disturb Clefairy's life unless absolutely necessary.
"Alright then! By the way, Ash, why don't you come back with us too? Those two poachers are wanted criminals, and thanks to your quick thinking, we caught them. You should receive the reward."
Hearing that Seymour was returning with them, Officer Jenny didn't object and turned her attention to Ash.
Just like in Ash's previous life on Earth, there are rewards for catching or reporting wanted criminals. In this world, the rewards for catching poachers are even more generous.
"Well... but we're planning to head to the next city," Ash replied.
"That's fine! You've registered at the Pokémon Center, so we'll transfer the bonus directly to your account," Officer Jenny assured him, knowing that the reward didn't need to be handed over in person.
As an official Trainer, Ash didn't always carry cash. Most transactions in this world were digital, and his Pokédex, which contained his personal information, served multiple purposes, much like an ID card and a bank card.
"Okay, thank you!" Ash nodded. Traveling required funds, and these were usually provided by family or earned along the journey. However, Ash found it a bit odd.
It made sense that his mother, Delia, didn't work and stayed home doing housework. But where did the money come from?
Ash had asked before, and his mother said that his father sent money. To be honest, Ash was still very curious about the father he had never met. There weren't even any photos of him at home. Ash sometimes wondered if his mother had made it up.
But even though his father had never been home or met him, at least he remembered to send money, which showed some level of care for the family.
"Then... I'll leave this little one in your care. We'll be heading off now. Goodbye, Uncle Seymour!"
After saying his goodbyes, Ash glanced at Axew and smiled before turning to leave. Meanwhile, Misty was still pulling on Brock's ear, which was now red and sore from the tugging.
"Stop messing around; let's get going!" Ash called as he walked past them. Misty finally let go of Brock and followed.
"Ash, wait for me!" Misty called out, hurrying to catch up.
