Ren and Liza are walking down the street now that they have left the church, passing countless women as they do. Ren, "why did the glass not seem to have much information?", it was cool but felt lacking now that I think back on it. Liza, "that can just tell you your affinity and Unique's name, nothing more".
Ren, "I already knew what my Unique was, so there wasn't much point in it". Liza, "true, but we still have to register you in the directory. The church corroborates that. Oh, the directory being a record of all Uniques discovered throughout history. My Anti-Immolation is the third one to be recorded".
Ren, "I see, then I assume we're already heading to the place to do so". Liza, "yes. We're heading to the Adventurers Administration in this city". Ren, "hm? The Adventurers Administration? Why…wait, why doesn't the church have the records?", we just did the appraisal there after all. Liza, he asks the hardest questions, "the army had problems with people lying about Uniques for better positions. Knowing who has a Unique can also let the soldiers keep an eye out for individuals who could easily commit crimes that otherwise wouldn't have an explanation. The Kingdom demanded the Church to hand them over but was met with heavy opposition. Things started to escalate, so it was entrusted to the Adventurers Administration as an independent 3rd party before things got too heated".
As Liza finishes explaining, they arrive at a splendid wooden building. Ren looks at the impressive architecture, wow, it would look amazing if not for the weird window frames. Now that I think about it, almost all of the buildings here have the exact same window frame design.
Ren realises he was lost in his own world and snaps back to attention. He quickly catches up to Liza as she enters the Administration. As he enters, what catches his attention first is the surprisingly low amount of people which is completely disproportionate to the capacity which the building is built to hold.
Inside, a female Receptionist of about 20 years old calls them over to herself overzealously, "welcome to the Adventurers Administration! May I inquire as to the reason of your visit?", they may be trying to hide it by using a cloak, but my lower half's "man radar" went off as soon as he entered the door.
Liza tuts in annoyance, "Unique registration", could you make your lust any less obvious? The receptionist takes out a form from under the counter, "in that case, please write your name, age, sex, place of birth, current address, and Unique please", could you make your annoyance any less obvious? Bitch.
Liza takes the paper and pen that the receptionist was trying to hand to Ren, causing the receptionist to tut under her breath in annoyance. Liza starts filling it out for Ren as quick as possible. The receptionist looks at the form, so his name is Ren and…lives in the Capital's Palace. He must be a Court Noble's son, which means money, "Electromaster? I don't believe we have a record of that one. Please give me a moment to check", as she turns and leaves.
Ren turns to Liza, "thanks". Liza, "at the very least, it's hard to forget you can't read and write", common knowledge? Forget that you don't know that all the time. Not long after, the receptionist returns with some forms and hands them to Ren with a beaming smile, "your Unique is an undocumented one. Please fill out these after you fully understand what you can do and return them to any of our offices. We've left our description blank until you can do so".
Ren takes the papers as Liza addresses the receptionist, stopping her from starting any type of conversation with Ren. Liza's tone openly shows her displeasure with the receptionist, "we haven't signed up before and we'd like to register as a party". The receptionist's eyebrow twitches in frustration, "in that case. Please fill out this form while I prepare your ID cards", she says as she resists the urge to slam the form, that she took out from under the counter, on the table before walking to the back again.
Liza starts filling out said name, "name...age...address...oh, they ask for a party name, what should we go with?". Ren thinks for a second, "hm…how about xxx? It sounds mysterious". Liza gives him a blank stare before turning back to write on the paper, "sexxx it is". Ren's heart sinks to his stomach, "HOLD ON!". Liza, "relax, I was just kidding. A joke for a joke". Ren, oh, she thought it was a joke...
Liza starts to think about it seriously, "how about...elemental strike?", we wield two of the elements, and the power of that lightning strike is still stuck in my mind after all. Ren, "ohhhh, very fantasy like. I like it. Let's go with that". Liza, "got it". As she's writing, she can't help but wonder, fantasy? What does he mean by that?
The receptionist then returns with four cards on a pillow. She snatches the completed form from Liza's hand and takes out a weird looking pen and ink bottle, "please wait a second". She dips the pen in the ink, "please bare with it", as she starts...etching on the metal cards, a painful screech echoing around the reception.
A woman who was off to the side screams out, "DO THAT IN THE BACK FOR FUCK SAKE!". The receptionist gives her a fierce glare, shutting the woman up before returning to the cards, I need to appeal in any way I can. Doing this in the back does nothing for me.
Everyone covers their ears as she works the cards. Once she's finally finished, she hands two of the cards over as well as some papers, gently caressing Ren's hand as she does, "please request me for any needs you might have at this branch. Here's my name", as she points to the name tag on her chest, her cleavage on full display.
Ren takes a quick look before turning away, yep, can't read. The receptionist tuts under her breath at her failed seduction attempt, "is that all the business you have with us today?", that didn't do anything? But there is so much of my cleavage on the display that any more would mean than I have to show my nipples, but my shirt might as well be off at that point! Liza, "yes, thank you", as she walks off towards the door, good riddance.
Before following after Liza, Ren goes to thank the receptionist, "thank-". He's caught off guard by the hand gesture and face she's making. She's imitating an orgasm face as her left hand formed a circle with her index finger and thumb. She thrusts in and out of the circle with her right hand's index finger. Ren is too stunned to think of anything as he stands there in shock.
Thinking that she's gotten her point across, she then makes the shush symbol with her index finger by pressing it against her lips and gives him a wink, men get excited by secret affairs, right? That's what everyone says. Ren quickly turns and follows Liza, the women of this world are too forward! I can't think of that being anything else than creepy and scary! The receptionist doesn't know what to make of his reaction, I…seduced him, right? He'll come to my house later, right?
Ren catches up with Liza outside, who was waiting for him in complete displeasure. Liza forcefully rummages through the papers he's holding without warning. After a few seconds, she fins a piece of paper smaller than the rest. She looks at it and immediately incinerates it as she tuts.
Ren, surprised, "didn't we need that?". Liza, "no, it was just that harlot's address. I hate two-faced women like her, acting all bubbly on the outside but a real bitch on the inside". Ren, "o-oh. I wasn't fond of her either", excuse me receptionist, it's not safe to give out your address like that!
The two start to walk away from the Administration, Liza's mood seeming to be slightly better. Ren, sensing that it's ok to speak, asks what's on his mind, "I saw a board with pieces of paper pinned up in the Administration. I assume they're quests?". Liza, "I don't know what you mean by quest, but the papers on the board were requests. They have various jobs that you can complete in exchange for money".
Ren, different on the smallest of details "then, I think that tomorrow we should look at the quests available and decide on one to take. I really haven't tried to use my lightning yet, so we should get something simple to let me practice. We can also make a bit money off of it. We'll probably need it".
Liza, "you don't need to worry about money. I'll take care of that". Ren, yea, she's 100% a noble if she has the money to take care of me, "I'd prefer to not be completely dependant on you". Liza, "but I'd much prefer it that way. In fact, If anyone found out that I wasn't paying for everything, I'd be up to my neck with women screaming at me wanting to take my place".
Ren, "what? Seriously?". Liza, "just being a man will set you up for life. There's no end to sugar mamas. Even those 30 years younger would be willing pay for everything". Ren, "ah, now that you mention, I can totally see sugar mamas being a thing in this world", I don't feel like commenting on the latter. Did Japan have a term for them? I can't remember. I think I would remember something like that if I'd heard the term.
Liza, "so how about you let me take care of everything?". Ren, "...it's a tempting offer, but it still doesn't sit right with me". Liza, "hmm...then, how about I pay you?". Ren, "pay me? For what?". Liza, without skipping a beat, "sex of course". Ren is stunned one again. This time, due to a...job offer? what am I? A gigolo?!, "I'd rather not open that can of worms".
Liza is confused by his words, "what's a ca-n? And why are these wo-r-ms in it? And what are wo-r-ms? What does this have to do with anything?".
Ren, not bothered to even attempt to explain, "…never mind. It's a saying from my world. It basically means that I'd rather not go down that path", I understand them not having cans, but no worms? How does this world have soil if worms aren't supporting it? Wait...worms are responsible making soil, right? Or is it that they just speed up the process? May I'm wrong and they just fertilise the soil?
Liza, "well, I can't let you pay for anything, so it's either pay for sex or I just take care of you. You don't have to call me a sugar mama if you don't want to. Take your pick. Oh, and any money you earn, you can keep for yourself, but I'm still paying for everything now matter. No man pays for anything himself".
Ren, then what's the point in having money?, "I'm not calling you a sugar mama". Liza, "great, then it's settled. Oh, and by the way, I'll go check the requests myself. You can't ready anyway". Ren, "oh...ok", is it really settled? I really won't be calling you my sugar mama. Ever.
Liza, "but first, we need to switch Inn's". Ren was about to ask her why but then remembered this morning, "ah, yes we do. Indeed". Liza, they might start attacking in the night if we stay in one place too long, "you stay in the new inn's room while I get our stuff from the old Inn", it's dangerous for him to walk around by himself, but I don't want him to worry. Ren, "are you sure? ", she has some grit to be able to walk in there like nothing. I don't want to go back there to be honest. Just thinking of the stares is making me cringe.
Liza, "I'm sure. The staff will probably offer you *sigh* anything to stay. You'll just slow things down". Ren, offering no more weak opposition, "if you insist", guess I'll wash myself with a rag while I wait...it's only been a few days, but I already really miss showers and baths. Liza, "oh, and don't take off you're cloak unless we're with people who know you're a man, ok?". Ren, "I don't feel like taking it off outside anymore", I learned my mistake already.
Having checked into their new inn with no problems, Liza heads back to the old Inn to retrieve their stuff. On top of the building across the street, two cloaked figures are observing Liza approach the inn.
Cloaked figure A, "she fits the description". Cloaked figure B, "she does, but I don't spot anyone who's concealing their identity with her". A, "what should we do?". B, "lets observe her for a bit and see what she does. Her style is uncommon but not rare. However, the main unit is deployed right now, so it's unlikely to be a coincidence".
Shortly after entering the inn, the pair spot Liza enter a room through the room's window. A, "she entered the room we needed to observe". B, "so she really is his travelling companion". A, "looks like she's gathering their stuff". B, "so they're changing their location. The question is if they're doing so because they know they're being observed, or it's just a coincidence". A, "either way, we need to follow her".
The two cloaked figures jump from rooftop to rooftop as they follow Liza back to their new inn. A, "looks like this is the place". B, "no doubt about it. I saw a man wiping his body through that window, but now…". A, "oh, she's pushed him down. Good for her. She'll get some action before she leaves this world forever". B, "you keep watch. I'll go report to the boss". A, "I don't think they're going anywhere soon".
Sometime later, A is still observing the inn Ren and Liza are staying in. The night is a bit noisy, but it's calm overall. A slowly stands up, addressing the two presences silently approaching her from behind, "well, this is a pain. What should I do?". Cloaked figure C, "well, this is a surprise. It's been a long time since anyone has sensed me sneaking up on them". Cloaked figure D, "ditto". C, "I don't suppose the two of you will be kind enough to explain how?".
A, who approached C & D from behind, "we all have our trade secrets". C, "guess that's true", well, there is a high likely hood of running into fellow assassins on missions like this. A addresses B, ignoring the two other assassins, "we're pulling out". A, after a few seconds, "understood", as she then starts approaching B. There's a tension in the air as B passes by C & D, as if a bloodbath could occur at any moment…but nothing happens. C & D are perfectly still, unwavering as B passes them by. Without exchanging works, A & B hop off the roof and disappear into the darkness.
D, "was it wise to let them go?". C, "no point in pointless bloodshed. I'd rather not risk my life for a pointless reason". D, "I assume we shouldn't proceed with the mission?". C, "there's very few reasons assassins would abandon a job. There's no doubt they have information we don't. If they were easily killed by us, I would've moved forward with the mission, but I honestly don't know who would've come out on top. If assassins of their level are retreating, we should retreat and gather more information at the very least".
B, running behind A in the darkness, "what happened?". A, "a rumour spread like wildfire at the afternoon mass. A man with devastating offensive magic appeared at the training grounds. The Adventurers Administration also requested corroboration for a previously unknown Unique. The timing is too perfect". B tuts, "Uniques are always such a pain. They require a long observation time". A, "better than going in blind and getting killed". B, I know, but I still find it annoying".
Around the same time, the receptionist from the Adventurers Administration is sitting in her bed wearing a nightgown, "he's…not coming, is he?". She suddenly gets intensely angry, "I bet it was that bitch! She must've done something to stop him from seeing my letter! That must be it! I swear I'm going to get back at her! After all, there's no reason he'd refuse a cute girl like me…right?".
