Chapter 21 - The Truth Part 1

An Ming felt incredible as he looked at the space in front of him that seemed to be emitting a faint light.

Not only the vision, but also the hearing became stronger. The sound of Erica standing beside him and rubbing the corner of her clothes anxiously could be clearly heard.

Have I... mutated?

If he has come into contact with anything strange recently.

…That's too much.

He entered a strange death casino, came into contact with children's corpses and mushroom viruses, drove to the old train station and encountered a monster, and was even beaten...

Only then did he realize to his surprise that the wound on his waist was no longer painful. He quickly opened his clothes and looked down, only to see a patch of grayish-white skin on his abdomen.

What is this?

He touched the skin gently. The gray skin felt intact, and there was no obvious suture between it and the surrounding flesh-colored skin. It was as if they had grown together from the beginning, just in a different color.

"Erica, did you treat my wound?" An Ming asked puzzledly.

"Senior, is your wound still hurting? I used a special gel to sew it up."

"gel?"

"A brand new chemical reagent, one of my research topics."

Erica said proudly, puffing out her little chest.

"You should have done clinical testing on this thing, right?"

A drop of cold sweat ran down An Ming's cheek.

"Of course!" Erica put her hands on her hips and pouted in dissatisfaction, "Please don't question my professionalism, okay? This kind of biological product must have a complete quality inspection process."

"Have you found any side effects?" An Ming asked carefully.

"Side effects...Senior, are you feeling unwell?"

When Erica heard An Ming suddenly mention the side effects, she couldn't help but worry and even unconsciously moved closer to An Ming.

"My eyes and ears feel a little... foreign."

An Ming pushed Erica away slightly. Somehow, he felt that the distance between him and Erica had inexplicably shortened after he woke up. This uncontrollable distance made him feel a little overwhelmed.

"That's impossible! Theoretically, after it sews up the wound, it will allow the organism to replace itself with ordinary cells and eventually wither. How can it affect vision and hearing?"

Erica was a little confused. She had a sad face, as if she was very worried about An Ming's health and might cry at any time.

Erica probably didn't know that An Ming saw all of this clearly, which made him even more embarrassed.

"I'm sorry, Senpai. I didn't expect this to happen because it was an emergency."

Erica pinched the corner of her clothes, feeling very aggrieved.

An Ming sighed in his heart and put his hand on Erica's head.

"It doesn't matter. Actually, you saved me, but I shouldn't question your ability. Although my eyes and ears are not very normal, it doesn't matter. It's better to say that thanks to you, we can get out now."

Erica's eyes widened after hearing this, as if she couldn't understand what An Ming meant.

"Even in such a dark environment, I can still see the road clearly." An Ming grabbed Erica's hand and said, "I will lead the way from now on. Don't get lost."

As if feeling the warmth of the human body, Erica couldn't help but lean towards An Ming.

"This is the first time I feel that Senior is very considerate." She muttered softly.

"Am I usually so inconsiderate? Sorry I forgot to mention that my ears are very sensitive now. I can hear you clearly when you whisper beside me."

After hearing this, Erica's face flushed. She immediately pouted and turned her head away without saying anything. But she held An Ming's hand even tighter.

"By the way, when you were performing the operation on me, did you take out the opponent's bullet?" An Ming suddenly asked.

"Of course, otherwise your wound would be a problem, Senior!"

"I want to see that bullet."

After hearing this, Erica was puzzled, but she still took out the iron box from her waist bag. A bloody smell came towards him. An Ming realized that his sense of smell had also been enhanced.

"The blood-stained cloth is also in there, be careful."

An Ming opened the box carefully as Erica instructed, only to see that it was filled with bloodstained pieces of cloth and various bloodstained objects.

Looking at the shocking bloodstained waste, An Ming couldn't help but feel that he was lucky to be alive and kicking.

And the strangest thing was that he no longer felt any pain, as if his waist had never been injured at all.

It had been less than two hours since he was injured, but his wound had recovered to this level.

This is far from being a human, right? Just like a chalk beast... An Ming couldn't help but think so.

However, now is not the time to think about these things.

He immediately dismissed his imagination and began to look for something among the pieces of cloth. Finally, he found a metal bullet in the corner of the box.

The entire bullet was polished very smoothly, not like a rough civilian product, or even an active military weapon. It was more refined, a kind of finely processed product that could be called a work of art. Unlike a regular round bullet, this bullet was more like a cylinder with a head.

He squinted his eyes to observe the bullet, and then he could see a row of small dents in the corners of the bullet that had already been twisted and deformed.

It is a small pattern. Special standard assembly line products will have this mark printed on the outer packaging to indicate which factory made it.

And this projectile is printed with a familiar symbol - the Marigold Throne.

Damn it, they're everywhere.

An Ming couldn't help but feel a little speechless. These guys were really haunting. Not only did they mess with biochemistry, they even got involved in the high-tech weapons manufacturing industry.

But if you think about it carefully, it is very normal. These guys started out by selling arms during the Lan Civil War. It would be unreasonable for them not to have their own weapons manufacturing plant.

"…It's really worth running to this old station for the pursuit."

An Ming put away the bullets and closed the iron box again.

"Senior, have you gained anything? Could it be that you already know the mastermind behind the whole incident?" Erica looked at An Ming with a knowing expression and widened her eyes.

"Well, it's a group of people you are also familiar with." An Ming said, sighing weakly.

"Could it be them again?!"

Erica immediately thought of the Marigold Throne. She was speechless just like An Ming. These guys were so active in the Federation, but there was no trace of them in the past?

"Or maybe they have a lot of traces, but they are all-powerful in the Federation." An Ming suddenly said, as if he saw through Erica's thoughts.

"So what should we do now?" Erica asked again.

"Of course I went back alive. Now, whether it's me, you, or the director, we can't do anything about those guys, right? Now that we know that the Black Pottery Casino incident is related to them, there is no point in continuing to investigate. For us now, going back alive is the greatest victory."

Although she was very unwilling, Erica still nodded and agreed with An Ming's decision.
