Belmont's cold laugh echoed through the moonlit meadow. Samantha glanced at Marcus, noticing the tension in his jaw as he stared down his nemesis.
"My, my," Belmont drawled, his eyes gleaming with malice. "Isn't this sweet? Marcus, I believe you haven't told your little pet about your darkest secret, have you?"
Marcus growled, stepping protectively in front of Samantha. "That's enough, Belmont. This is between you and me."
But Belmont's grin only widened. "Oh, I think not. You see, my dear Samantha, your precious Marcus isn't the noble hero you think he is. Did he ever tell you about-"
Suddenly, the air around them began to shimmer and pulse. Samantha recognized the telltale signs of a time jump, her eyes widening in surprise. She reached for Marcus's hand just as the world around them began to blur.
