The winds howled fiercely across the jagged cliffs, carrying with them the scent of the void, a bitter, acrid stench that seemed to cling to everything it touched. Kael and his companions had barely caught their breath before the next wave of creatures surged forward. It was as though the mountain itself could not protect them from the forces that had been awakened.
"We need to create a choke point," Kael shouted over the roar of the wind. He motioned to the narrow pass that led up into the higher peaks. The cliffs narrowed there, and it was the only place they could hold a defensive position long enough to regroup.
Morgana was already moving, her staff glowing brighter as she summoned a protective barrier. The energy shimmered in the air, casting long shadows across the rocky ground as the first of the void creatures began to crawl up from the darkened forest below.
