"I got lucky."
Those are the word's that resonated within the deepest parts of my mind and heart. Something I hated admitting too. The fact that I couldn't fight back, all because I was too weak to do so. But I wasn't some god like being who could simply flick his wrist or snap his fingers to make his problems disappear as if they never existed. It was just another bitter truth to swallow and digest, one that I would have to accept.
But...I saw something, something that sparked a fire in me. That man, the man who saved me, he was strong. Strong enough to decapitate a creature of such size with a single swing of his sword. I wanted that strength - I WANTED IT! With such power I could ensure a safer life for myself. Hell, I could also protect others as well!
I'd gladly protect the innocent if I had such speed and strength. Imagine all the lives I could protect! Hmph, unlike most people I have a heart, so I'd gladly do what I can to help those in need. Of course I am no fool to sacrifice myself, but...let's say a thousand lives are at risk, would I do such a heroic thing as give up my own life?
...Yes, yes I would do such a thing. Even though it's a scary thought, it'd be a good way to go. I'd rather die a hero than some heartless bastard. If I can do one final act of good in my last moments of living, then I'd go down a fighter rather than a coward. It'd be hard to do, knowing death is a fear inducing subject to think about, but, I would have to rise above my fears to be the better man.
And the only way I'd be able to ensure I don't have to ever sacrifice myself, is by becoming stronger. That man, that singular man proved he was not normal. Meaning I was in a world that had actual real meaning to becoming stronger. And heh, I bet you're surprised by how I deduced all this from just a singular moment, right?
Well, all I had was time to think on that moment, even if I was still running towards the giant wall ahead of me. Maybe my mind should have been focused to the person fighting to keep those beasts from chasing me, and it somewhat was, but I was too focused on other thoughts plaguing my mind. I was above the average joe when it came to being smart, and I reveled in that. But it didn't mean I had an ego, I knew, and would always agree that there were other people that would always be better than me.
Nobody is truly equal, there will always be someone greater than you. That was something I understood at a very young age. Not like I ever cared though. I just wanted to enjoy a good life. Being better was never something I bothered myself with. Why not just be content with a mundane nine-to-five job and a decent place to live?
*Huff* *Huff* *Huff* "Ugh, why am I even thinking about this!" 'Was my current choice of words, not even having the breath to talk loudly as I continued to run. My legs were numb by this point. Not even having the burn they once had when they were sore, so numb I could hardly feel the exhaustion in them.'
Of course, my exhaustion was the least of my worries. For a means of resting had finally come to me, mainly due to having finally reached the wall. Which I slowly came to a stop in front of, staring up at the shining silvery color of the metal glistening in the sunlight. Like Jesus was it tall!
So, with a sigh of relief, I slumped down against it, just too tired to care about the resounding artillery fire happening before me, or the gun fire, or the people jumping from the walls that would have been lethal to any ordinary person. And honestly, you'd think I'd be scared. To be truthful on how I felt, I just felt a bit...excited?
This was something I wanted in my life. Excitement, a means to make my life more interesting. Something to add flavor to what I once called dull. What I saw before me was like some sort of live action move, but in real time! Not even a 3-D movie could contend with this! Of course, there's a thing called too much excitement.
Speaking of which, my heart jumped in surprise as someone quietly jumped down beside me. Making me flinch in surprise. Only for me to slowly gaze at them in wonder, and a tinge of curiosity. Because they too were wearing armor, not exactly the same set from what I saw before, but still just as impressive.
The mystery figure, noticing my stare, turned their head to my direction. It was another man, this one smoking a cigarette, a nonchalant expression on his face.' "So, you're the one that's making a ruckus, eh?"
His words came off so calmly that I paused for a second, staring at him with a befuddled look, slowly turning my gaze to the roaring battle in the distance, only to slowly look back to him.
"How is this MY fault? One moment I'm walking around in the forest, the next thing I knew I was being chased an-oh, I guess it is my fault..." 'My word's trailed off at the end, a subtle realization dawning on me'
I shake my head in exasperation.' "Not like I was purposely bringing them here! I just got unlucky; that's it!"
My response made the other man chuckle in amusement. And damn was the other man good looking. What's up with today? Is everyone that I'm going to meet just so damn drop dead gorgeous? I mean, I was good looking as well, but I was only ten! I had barely even matured in this younger body...
"Well, truth be told, you're doing us better than any harm you think you've caused."
Such a statement made me blink in surprise, and I slowly squinted at him.' "How is any of this GOOD? I highly doubt me brining a large horde of blood thirsty beasts to your front door is a good thing."
That got the man to chuckle a bit more, a small smirk splaying out on his face as he took the lit smokey stick from his lips' "Because, people have been itching for a fight..."

(POV Swap) - Marcus
A kid, a kid was the reason for my worries, and the reason for a small scaled wave of Nightmare Creatures. Honestly, today wasn't as bad as I feared it to be. At first, I thought the wave of creature's I'd be facing would be troublesome, but nope! Truth be told I'm a bit happy with how things are looking as of now.
I turned my head to look at the battlefield, the kid staring at it as well in mild amusement.
The kid was an odd one, for such a young age he should have been a bit scared, and I could tell he was, but he also seemed to enjoy the intense fight going on in front of him. Such a curious little boy, how intriguing. But then again, no one's exactly sane or normal in this world, hehe~.
Shoot, I was weird at a young age as well. Always itching for a fight to test my metal. Psh, if only I knew how much more dangerous the world was when I was younger. I thought I was tough, strong, I was wrong. I may have tempered myself over the years, but once I was shown the horrors of battle, I realized I was nowhere near as tough as I thought I was.
My mind's thoughts flickered back to the young kid before me, and I turned my head back to him, gazing at him. He was definitely young, most likely not having experienced the spell yet. Not everyone gets to experience it, but I've got a gut feeling this poor kiddo will experience it soon. Odd thing was, I could feel a bit of essence radiating off of him. It was subtle, but it was a bit surprising.
He definitely wasn't an awakened, and yet I could tell he was different. It was odd to feel so much essence off of someone who hasn't experienced their first nightmare yet, especially someone so young. That was a worrisome thought to consider, realizing that he was going to be probably the youngest document person to enter their first nightmare.
Grimacing I crouched down to his height, the boy looking to me in curiosity.' "We can't stay down here anymore, but if you want a better view of the battle, we can head up there." 'Casting my gaze up I looked to the wall, seeing tracer rounds from certain weaponry, then I looked back down, seeing him still staring up.' "So, get up, Imma carry you up there."
Surprisingly I got no argument, the boy quickly standing up, only to wobble for a moment. He looked as if were about to fall over. And now that I look more closely, he seemed a bit out of breath. Hrm, he must have been running for a while...
With a gentle motion of movement, I picked him up, making his eyes widen in surprise before inevitably just accepting his fate. Hm, the kid was pretty amicable despite being picked up, most would make a fuss about it. Hehe, I bet I was going to get a kick out of what I was going to do next~!
"Hold on tight kid!"
Seeing his eyes widen in alarm made me grin in amusement, heh, guess I was right!
With a sudden burst of motion I jumped from the ground, heading upwards to the top of the wall, hearing the kid yell in terror. Heh, called it~

"AHHHHHHHHHHH!" 'Oh god I'm going to die!'
Clenching my eyes shut I felt the wind rip past my face, my hair rustling in the wind as he we flew upwards at a speed that made my stomach lurch. Ugh, at least he warned me to hold on tight. Bastard was enjoying my fright though. Just from peaking an eye open I could see that smug smile on his face, that damn jerk!
Thankfully the short ride ended, as I felt the motion of moving upwards end. Only for my heart to lurch in fear as I opened my eyes, gazing downwards to only see how high we were. And I snap my head up to him, shouting in anger.' "You asshole! WHY ARE WE SO HIGH UP!?" 'I shout in frustration, pushing my face into his chest out of fright. I had a fear of heights, don't judge me!'
And you may be wondering, why was I angry? Shouldn't I be happy that I was safe atop the wall? Yeah, thing is, the guy purposely overshot and sent us up ABOVE the wall, almost twice the height the wall is. Jerk did it on purpose, hell, he was chuckling right now.
Speak of the devil and he shall appear. The older man held me closer, snorting in amusement as we began to rapidly fall downwards to the top of the wall.' "Asshole you say? Heh, you should be thanking me. I am giving you a better view of the fight after all!" 'Better view my tiny childlike ass! You could have just gotten to the top of the wall and that would have been enough!'
Of course, that's what I wanted to say. But I was just too scared to even look up to his damn smug face to say such a thing, keeping my eyes shut as we fell lower and lower, making me believe this guy was insane. Ugh, please don't tell me everyone acts like this in this world...
