(POV Zarus)
Getting to the needed office to do the paperwork didn't take as long as one would expect, seeing it was just a short trip. I mean, it only took about ten or so minutes to get to the office, and I know that sounds a bit long, but trust me when I say it was a short amount of time then what you would expect. In actuality it could have taken longer with how busy this building was, but honestly it was pretty organized and efficient.
Not even a second was all it took to be shown into a room, an oak desk and what seemed to be a black leather type of swivel chair behind it. A window behind all that as well, casting sunlight over the room, the blinds were open, allowing said light to filter in.
It was overly clean, as if someone had OCD and just said 'I want this to look perfect!', no dirt, no trash anywhere, just a purely professional environment. One could say it was impressive, but it wasn't. It was just an office, a work environment that needed to be clean to show whoever claimed this office that they took their work seriously.
Sadly, it was just me, Carter, and Marcus in here. Nobody else was in the room, just us. We all had been told to come to this specific room, and yet no one was present to welcome us in. A bit unprofessional, but then again, maybe they were busy? I wouldn't put it behind them if that was the case, it wouldn't be right to get frustrated over the fact we were waiting.
Thus, we all took a seat in open chairs. Silently waiting for someone to walk in and get this show on the road. Of course, we talked a little bit from time to time, just general stuff. Like, what I would need once I get shown my new home, what I want, and so on and so forth. Honestly, I was a bit touched by their kindness.
We even talked about topic's that allowed to know one another better. It was necessary, and I felt it was nice to do so. And also, yes, I know you'll be asking, why is Carter here? Aren't I just getting adopted by Marcus? Welp, apparently Carter's also going to be a second dad for me, not sure how I felt about that.
I mean, I did somewhat know how I felt about that. I felt, truthfully, touched. We had just barely known each other, and yet he was also someone willing to take care of me. Maybe it was because we had connected so easily?
I hope that was the case, if not, then I would be disappointed, not greatly so, but just a little.
Now, back to our current predicament. Which was us just waiting for someone to show their face and help us get this done and situated. Now, it didn't take long. Wanna know why? Because someone burst into the room, slamming the door open, stepping in with a hurried and apologetic expression.
Said person scared the crap out of me, Carter, and Marcus. Didn't think they'd get scared, but ha! Karma for scaring me Marcus!
A-hem, anyways, back to said person. They were, young, but not overly young. Maybe in their early twenties, which I understand is quite young, but at least they seemed to hold a poise with the way they walked in after banging the door open.
The person I was looking at was a female. Tanned skin, violet eyes, a beautiful complexion that would scream 'fashion model!', but she clearly wasn't. The black suit she wore was definitely expensive, no way was it cheap. Just looking at it made me feel a bit broke, just a little I swear!
And before I could continue panning out what she looked like, she finally broke the silence with a cough into her fist and a smile that would melt ice, of course, it seemed almost practiced.
"I'm sorry about all that. I was in the middle of a meeting, and this little meet up was unexpected and dished out onto my schedule far too quickly for my liking, so apologies." 'Casting a smile our way she made a beeline towards the chair behind the desk, sitting in it and clasping her hands together in front of her.'
'Carter, being Carter, decided to be the nice guy and just throw her a bone.' "No worries! And we apologize as well, we didn't uh, really expect to be doing this today, yet here we are!" 'Chuckling he rubbed the back of his neck, looking my way.' "We're here for adoption, or well, to help this little guy become our son-er, I mean, uh...yeah, I think that's what were here for?"
'He cast a glance to Marcus, uncertain.' "Wait, am I becoming one of his dads too? Not sure how this works, I've never dealt with something like this before." 'Marcus shrugged, shaking his head with a sigh, and raising his hands in defeat.' "Don't look at me, I have no clue as well. This is my first time dealing with something like this as well." 'Said Marcus, most certainly not sure as well.'
'The worker behind the desk cleared her throat, getting our attention, smiling and giving us a look I couldn't describe.' "Ah, no worries! We'll get it all situated, right here and now. This won't take long, I assure you. All we need to do is some simple, yet very important work that will allow me to get you all handled." 'Reaching down she pulled a drawer open, taking out a packet of paper, putting it in front of her.'
"This, right here, is the form's that both of you need to sign, 'She looked towards me.' "For him to become officially adopted, or mainly under your care as his legal guardians."
Proceeding to stand up, Marcus and Carter both made their way towards the desk, grabbing a packet for each of them, and making their way back to their seats.
'Seeing they had both grabbed the documents, the lady proceeded to tap the desk.' "Please don't look over them just yet, as we need to discuss some stuff before we can proceed to filling out the paperwork, okay?" 'Both men looked her way, and nodded, setting the papers aside to give her their attention.'
'Unclasping her hand's, she pushed herself back a bit, the chair not even squeaking as it rolled back.' "Now, as of today, you're here to adopt him, yes? May I ask as to why you wish to do so?" 'Looking between us she gave a curious gaze in our direction.' "I mainly have to ask a series of question's, mainly standard procedure, I assure you." 'Clarified the woman, making sure we understood and didn't get confused.'
'Marcus, being more professional than Carter, decided to take the lead and speak his mind.' "We're here, because we fear for his safety. And thus, I, and my friend, have taken it upon ourselves to ensure he's, 'He cast a glance my way.' "Safe and protected by being under our care."
'Carter nodded.' "Yep, we mainly found the kid running for his life from some Nightmare Creature's outside the wall's. You see, he's nomadic, and so, he's been surviving in the wild on his own for a while." 'Turning towards me he smiled, giving me a wink.' "We saved his little behind from becoming monster chow, and I think you can understand why we're worried about him." 'The lady nodded, understanding flashing through her eyes.'
'Nodding along she looked my way.' "I see; that make's sense as to why you wish to adopt him. Hm, meaning he has no one to go to as far as your both aware?" 'She asked, looking between all of us. And we all nodded, showing she was right on the money.'
'Sighing she nodded again, looking off to the side as a photo on the wall. And I looked where she looked, seeing what seemed to be a family portrait.' "A shame, I wished we could try at least finding some close relative to speak too." 'Looking back our way with a glance she nodded again, eye's gazing at me with a curious expression.'
"Question is, where'd he come from? Was he fully raised in the wild? Did he have parents to raise him? Or is it one of those more precarious scenarios to where he had to survive solely by himself?" 'Question's continued to come and go, and we answered to the best of our abilities. You'd think she was being a bit pushy with what she wanted to know, but I couldn't judge her. She was just doing her job after all.'
Leading us to being stuck in the office for an hour or longer. None of us got to do any paperwork until we were all done discussing thing's between one another for clarification over certain topics, problems, and whatever else was brought up. Oh, and she also told us her name. Her name's Lily, a good name like any other.
Back to the current topic, adoption. We got it finished and over with. Mainly giving her a handshake and thanking her for her help, and a hug's given to me from Carter and Marcus, apparently extra excited for this. I...guess it was understandable, they were now dads, maybe not by blood, but still father's all the same.
And yes, Carter was listed as my second dad, leading me to having all sorts of juicy material to tease the two of them. Heh, I'm sure you could guess what I was talking about~!
Now, focusing away from all that nonsense, let's draw our eye's towards something really important. My new fricking home! And boy was I excited to see it. I mean, the last time I slept in an actual bed felt like a lifetime ago. You cannot even come to understand how much I needed a warm and comfy bed to sleep in. My back was utterly killing, let me tell you what!
~~~
"Are we almost there yet!?" 'I ask for the hundredth time, getting a sigh from both my now adoptive parents.'
We were in a car, or more like a tank of a truck. Apparently, Carter was a truck guy, who would have thought? Considering how serious Marcus is, you would think him to be a more liable person towards being a fan of trucks, because everyone knows that most men who like trucks are either, A, very serious, or B, usually just really fun to hang around with.
Now, I know I just said that truck guys can be fun to hang around with, and that would list Carter as a guy who could be a truck connoisseur, but I would have thought he'd be someone with a desire for speed, not big bulky vehicles like what we were currently in. He was obviously someone who could be seen as a speed junky, with how much energy he has, but nope, he's a truck guy!
If you wanted to know what truck it was, I couldn't even come close to telling you. It was, and is, a truck of massive size. Like one you'd see pushing car's aside. Two wheels in the front, and FOUR in the back. I had seen a truck with six wheel's back on my old planet, but it didn't look like the one we're in.
This truck has a black paint job, and I mean coal black paintjob. Tinted windows to help block out the sun, and some really big wheel's that would definitely work for off-roading. It also has one of those racks on top of it that could hold stuff, which his does. Gas can's, an extra tire, and some containers. The vehicle was bulky, big, loud, and attention grabbing, but I liked it, most definitely.
Was I possibly jealous and now eager to get a truck like this? Yes, yes I was. I wanted something like this, something that'd show people on the road to get out of the way unless they wanted to be flattened like a pancake.
Oh, wait, we're almost to our new home. Uh, Carter just told me! Wait, lemme talk to him right now!
So, I cast my gaze to the front of the truck, trying to peer out the front window. And what I saw left me breathless. It was, and lemme just say, beautiful and glorious! What I was seeing made me almost shed tears of joy, almost. It was....a mansion!
Yep, a damn mansion was what they owned. And yes, they BOTH owned it. Apparently, they decided to just live together, seeing the mansion was so massive. Now, it wasn't one of those regular mansions you could just drive up too. Nope, it had a security gate, a big metal gate that actually needed a motor to open. Somehow it opened without either Marcus or Carter doing anything to make said gate open.
Maybe there was someone watching and they let us in from the other side? Mm, no, I doubt it. I didn't see any cameras-oh, wait, yes there's one right there! Oh, and wow, lots of greenery beyond the walls.
At this point I had so many questions, so many thoughts running through my head. For one, how loaded were they? Could I get an allowance? How big was my room? Did they have any servants? Could I get a pet tiger? ..Ok, the pet tiger one was more of a joke, but it'd still be cool!
Boy, was I excited to finally get out of the truck and see how big it was on the inside!
