Chapter 19 - Training Montage

Jake gets down the staircase in a hurry, and leaves the house with a buttered toast in his mouth.

He reaches the garden, hoping that old man Edward is not there. Just as he was about to sigh in relief, a punch landed on top of his head.

"You're late, boy." The gruff voice spoke, " you were supposed to report here half an hour ago, where were you? Also, didn't I also tell not to eat anything before our our training?" Edward raised an eyebrow in question after spotting the buttered toast in his mouth.

"B-but it's not my fault, I had really weird dreams for the last few days," Jake, initially experiencing a sense of danger, managed to secure a lifeline, and continued "I kept on having this dream about a young boy, then a young teenager, going through some weird stuff. He met this..." He started incorporating gestures to emphasise his story, each growing wilder and wilder.

But what he didn't know was that while he was doing so, Edward's eyes started to deepen in thought.

Just as Jake was about to reveal what happened next, Edward interrupted him. "Boy, stop the chit-chat and dilly-dallying. Give me 100 push ups, 100 squats, and 100 crunches. You have half an hour to do it, chop chop." Who knows when, a clearing, devoid of any grass, was prepared for Jake. Groaning, he decided get on all fours, and start his warm up. While doing so, a hand is seen clenching.

After a gruelling half hour, a sweat laden man sitsbdown, panting with exhaustion. Suddenly, a hand grabs him, pulls him up, and commands "Get in position, we shall start our combat training." "B-but-" " No buts, get in position. Now."

Jake punches Edward in the face, only to immediately kick his knees. Edward, eealizing the feint, did not hesitate to jump slightly to dodge the attack, while transferring the punch to somewhere else. Jake, seeing his attack fail, immediately launched a counter, grabbing Edward's right leg, before attempting a shoulder throw. Halfway through his actions though, Jake struggled to breathe. Somehow, Edward had managed to grab ahold of Jake's throat with his legs, and did a choke-hold on him. Jake started to struggle to breathe, with legs tightening even more, " Give up kid, any more and you would have to spend the next 5 hours in the medicated bath."

Just as Jake was about to pass out, he did desperate last-ditch attempt: he started tickling the old man's feet. At the sudden sensation of tickling, his legs loosened slightly, which allowed Jake to escape from his grasp, and drop him to the ground.

Not missing the chance, he locked Edward's body, and started punching rapidly, missing most of his shots due to the ridiculous agility of the old man. Just as he was about tire Jake, he halted suddenly. The reason, as he found out, was because he was punched in his groin. Though it did not hurt, it did embarass him greatly

In anger and embarrassment, he smirked, and taunted "What you gonna do, mommy's boy? Gonna defeat me like you did when you saw your momma being stolen? Oh wait, you cannot. Too bad." This enraged Jake, and in his fury, did not realise that his right hand started to glow. When he pulled his punch in, Edward saw it.

Without missing a beat, he swerved his head to the right, after which a loud boom was heard. Jake had punched so hard, he created a small crater right beside Edward's head. Once regaining his sanity, he quickly got up, apologised, and went to change his clothes.

Unbeknownst to him, when the door was slammed shut, the old man peered into the crater. There, around the edges, scorch marks were seen, black in color a smell. Yet nestled within, a small tinge of gold was seen emanating from the outer edge, hazing the surroundings slightly. With a sigh, he peers into the house, contemplating, before finally declaring:

"He is ready."
