David approached Laura's room, his hand hovering hesitantly over the doorknob. He took a deep breath, before grasping the knob again. Just as he turned it, the soft creak of the door was interrupted by the sound of footsteps behind him.
The nurse, her eyes widening in surprise, appeared around the corner, a tray of medications and supplies rattling in her hands. "Oh, s-sir," she stuttered, her voice barely above a whisper, as she recognized him.
Her gaze darted to the floor, her cheeks flushing with a hint of pink. "Good morning, I wasn't expecting you. Is there something you need?"
The nurse's eyes darted to the door, her eyebrows rising in surprise, as she never expected David to visit Laura, as he had only visited once, but it was for a brief period, and that was only four years ago.
