Chapter 1 - The New President

"So, you must be the new student council president that was specially handpicked from our school." Principal Hagler said, putting down his cup of coffee. Picking up the application papers on the table, he reads them out. "It says here that you are only... a year-one student?" Averting his eyes up to him, the principal scoffs. "Is this some kind of joke? Why would they assign a new student to such an important position?" Taking a deep sigh, he sets down the papers. Many things were already going wrong, especially after the previous student council president was murdered. Jokes like this weren't helping his stress in the slightest. "Well, Mr. Chad, I hope you're prepared to be assigned for this position. This is a very important position to be in after all."

Chad smiled to the principal's comments, as if being put in the spotlight didn't bother him at all. His demeanor was relaxed and calm, not having any care in the world. "Don't worry, I'll try my best!" promised Chad. The principal was unamused; he didn't care at this point. There were better candidates that he would've chosen, but for some reason, the school board refused for anyone else to take this position but him. "Your job is to manage all issues in the Kerole School District. A lot of things happen on a daily basis, and it's your job to try to resolve them. As a student council president, you must also make reports for whatever incident you resolve as well." The principal then went to the cabinet underneath his desk and handed him a key. "Use this key to enter the student council room. Your school ID will have a star on it to signify that you are in the student council so use it to identify yourself when needed."

Taking what he needed, he made his trip all the way to the student council room. Going up the stairs, he walked to the very end of the hallway, where the student council room was. Classes were in session so there were currently no students in the hallways so far. Passing each classroom, he heard the lectures that the teachers gave out. The hallways were clean and had a very futuristic feel to them. "Wow, I've never been in such an advanced building before..." Chad admired how great this place was compared to where he used to live. The structures weren't as advanced and sophisticated as the school he was in. He finally got to the door of the student council room. Pulling out the key he obtained from the principal, he opened the door.

Sliding the door open, he was greeted by a majestic room. It had luxury furniture with a fancy desk for him to sit at. There was also a nice view from the window that was placed right behind his desk. "Welcome." a voice said from the room. Breaking his focus from the decor, he averted his attention to where the voice came from. It was a petite girl with twin-tailed hair that stretched down to her skirt. She wore sharp glasses and held a bold expression at all times. "What brings you to the student council room today?" she asked. Chad, forgetting to state his presence, stuck up his ID. "Ah, yeah, my name is Chad Brinkston, and I'm the new student council president."

"I've been told you'd come today. It's just that I didn't think you'd be a first-year student..."

Chad casually stepped over to the president's desk and sat down. The girl seemed disturbed by the sudden act at first but quickly recomposed herself. "My name is Satenko, and I am the secretary for the student council. I will be managing all of your duties every day." She did not have the most friendly look that you could give to a person. She always had some face of disgust when she stared at Chad, and this bothered him quite a bit. "Now, for your first task of the day..." She finished her sentence by slamming a ton of papers onto Chad's desk. "Ever since the old president passed away, you'll have to finish the rest of the paperwork that was left behind." Chad was baffled at seeing all the papers stacked up on his desk. He could barely reach his eyes over the papers due to how tall the stack was. "S-Satenko, do I have to finish all of this?" He anxiously asked. Satenko's expression was dead serious. "All of it." she replied.

Chad already wanted to quit.

"Ugh, my hand is starting to hurt from all this signing." He picks up one of the papers and reads it. "Most of these are just general reports about school incidents anyway." Taking a deep sigh, he slumped onto his desk. The cascade of papers cushioned his body, making it actually quite comfortable for him to lay his face down on the desk. The exhaustion nearly got to Chad as he felt his eyelids getting heavier. The position was surprisingly more comfortable than he thought. It was then that Satenko returned from her errands with more paperwork. "Are you about to fall asleep already? We already have a request in the mailbox." Satenko stated. She walked over to the cluttered desk and set the envelope down. "Requests will always be put into the mailbox in front of the student council room, so make sure to check everyday if there is any."

Chad sat up and stretched as hard as he could before taking the envelope. He grabbed the white envelope and peeled back the clear tape that was applied onto it, revealing a letter on the inside. Taking out the letter, he could tell that the paper was freshly printed today, having a familiar scent that is always applied to printed papers. Opening up the letter to read the contents, he reads out loud.

Dear student council, the after-school study club requires assistance due to constant harassment by an unknown party. The school is no help, and it's gotten worse over the past few weeks. If possible, please come by.

Thank you,

Elmira.

Closing the letter, Chad stood up from his chair. "Alright, I'll go and deal with this. It'll be the first assignment I have as president!" Soon after declaring himself, he stormed out of the room, having the doors behind him quickly slam shut. Standing there in silence, Satenko looked at the pile of papers that remained on his desk. "He forgot to finish his paperwork."
