Sarah was taken home in silence, the ride back to the Silver Moon Pack territory passing in a blur. Damian, the Alpha's beta, and Ryan, the Delta, were constantly at her side, ordering pack members to make everything ready for her return. They ensured her room was prepared, the surroundings quiet and calm, trying to create a sanctuary amidst the chaos.
Damian's voice was firm as he directed the pack. "Make sure there's fresh bedding in her room. And someone prepare a meal—something light. She needs to eat."
Ryan added, "And clear the schedule. No disturbances for the next few days. She needs rest."
Damien , Ryan and Emma her best friend were her only companies.
When they arrived, the pack members moved swiftly, their faces had concern and sympathy on them . Selene , however, was unresponsive, her eyes distant and cold as she tried to numb the pain . The once vibrant and strong Luna now seemed a shadow of her former self. Every attempt to talk to her was met with silence. It was as if her voice had died along with her unborn child.
The pack's healer, an elderly woman named Agnes, approached her gently. "Selene ,dear, would you like some tea? It might help you relax."
But Sarah gave no response, only staring blankly ahead. The weight of her grief was too heavy on her. a heavy shroud over her once lively spirit.
Once inside her room, away from the prying eyes and murmured condolences, the silence was almost unbearable. She sat on the edge of her bed, her body numb, her mind a whirlwind of pain and memories.
After what felt like hours, there was a soft knock on her door. "Selene, it's me, Emma. Can I come in?" It was her best friend, Emma, the one person who might reach through the walls of her grief.
Sarah didn't respond, but Emma took the silence as permission and entered quietly. Emma was a small, fiery woman with pure beta blood running through her veins , long auburn hair and kind green eyes that now brimmed with unshed tears they had been friends since highschool. She crossed the room and sat beside Selene wrapping her arms around her gently.
"Oh, Selene," Emma whispered, her voice breaking. "I'm so sorry. I'm so, so sorry."
Selene remained silent, but her body shook with silent sobs. Emma held her tighter, stroking her hair soothingly. "You don't have to say anything. I'm here. I'll always be here."
For a long time, they sat like that, the room filled with the quiet sound of Selene's grief. Finally, Selene spoke, her voice barely a whisper. "Why, Emma? Why did this happen?"
Emma sighed, her own heart aching for her friend. "I don't know, Selene. I wish I had answers. All I know is that you are not alone. We all love you, and we will get through this together."
Selene looked up, her eyes red and swollen. "It hurts so much. I don't know if I can bear it."
Emma cupped Selene's face in her hands, her voice gentle but firm. "You are the strongest person I know. You will survive this. And when you're ready, we'll help you find a way forward. One step at a time."
She nodded weakly, her heart still heavy with sorrow but comforted by Emma's presence. She wasn't sure how she would move on from this, but in that moment, with her best friend by her side, she felt a glimmer of hope. Emma had always been her pillar and support system. She would go against people and orders just for Selene.
" Orion is a dick head, if it makes you feel any better I can cut his balls off for you ."
Selene smiled for the first time since the hospital. Emma had duties to attend to, she bid Selene a good bye and advices her to rest.
Night had fallen, and Sarah lay in her bed, staring at the ceiling, her mind full of thoughts. She had expected Orion to be by her side, offering some form of comfort or at least an explanation. But he wasn't. She knew where he was—definitely with his mistress of a mate, Anna. Selene's kindness ended up being her doom.
The memories came flooding back, vivid and painful. She remembered the day she walked in and her world shattered.
(Flash back)
It had been an ordinary afternoon, and Selene was returning from a meeting with the elders. She entered the pack house, expecting the usual bustle and activity. Instead, she was met with silence and shocked faces.
In the center of the room stood Orion , her husband of five years, kissing a young blonde-haired woman. The pack members around them looked stunned, whispering amongst themselves.
Sarah felt her heart drop, her legs almost giving way beneath her. She pushed through the crowd, her voice trembling , her eyes filled with disbelief and fury. "Orion ? Orion what's going on What is going on?"
He turned around, his eyes bright with excitement, a broad smile on his face like a child seeing candy. "Selene, I've found her! I have found my mate!"
The words echoed in her mind, a dagger to her heart. "Your mate?" she repeated, her choked up in her throat.
"Yes, Sarah," he said, his eyes gleaming. "I've finally found her. This is Anna. She's my mate." He said proudly introducing her not even bothered about the people around them .
Selene's eyes narrowed, anger bubbling up inside her. "Remember your promise , we had an agreement. If you found your mate, you would reject her immediately. We promised each other."
Orion's smile faded, replaced by a troubled look. "Selene, you don't understand. My wolf... my wolf is going crazy about her. I can't reject her. If I do, I will become weak. I won't be able to lead the pack."
Selene's fists clenched at her sides. "We have ruled this pack for five years without any difficulties. We were strong together. You promised me, Orion !"
He glanced at Anna, who was looking down, her face pale. "I found her almost dead in a rogue attack. I can't let her go, Selene. She needs me , I need her ."
Sarah's voice shook with emotion. "And what about us? What about our family? Our pack?"
Orion looked torn, but his resolve hardened. "Anna is my mate. I have to protect her."
"No," Selene said firmly. "You promised. Reject her now."
Orion took a deep breath, he had no choice. He had to do it as he promised , his voice heavy with regret. "I, Orion Frost Alpha of the Ironclaw Pack, reject—"
Anna fell to her knees, her eyes wide with terror and tears . "Please, no! Don't reject me! I'll die. I'm too weak. I barely survived the attack. I can't live without you my mate. Please, Alpha, don't do this."
Tears streamed down Anna's face as she pleaded, her voice raw with desperation. The pack members watched silently, their expressions showing pity and shock.
Selene's heart ached with anger , she knew that and felt there was something off about this Anna girl but couldn't put her fingers at it . "If she's so weak, she should go back to her pack. Let them take care of her."
Anna shook her head frantically. "I can't go back. They mistreated me. That's why I ran away. I ended up in rogue territory because I was trying to escape , please if it means me being a slave or your sister prisoner I wouldn't mind , I don't wanna go back, please."
Orion's eyes flashed with anger as he watched his mate plead. "Enough, Selene. That's enough. Anna will stay here, whether you like it or not. She needs us. She needs me."
Selene's voice turned cold, her eyes hard. "She can be taken care of elsewhere. There are healers, there are other packs. She doesn't have to be here."
Jacob stepped forward, his face inches from hers. "No, Selene. She will stay here. I won't discuss this any further. She is my mate, and she belongs here, I'm your Alpha and you will listen to me ."
Her heart pounded in her chest. The betrayal, the anger, the heartbreak—it was all too much. "You are choosing her over me, breaking your promise , kissing her in front of the entire pack , in front of me Orion like I don't exist. You didn't even wait for me to come back and at least discus this , " she said, her voice trembling.
Jacob's eyes softened, but his resolve did not waver. "I'm sorry, Selene . But this is how it has to be."
Selene turned away, trying to fight back tears which ended up in silent sobs. The pack members watched, Damian and Ryan exchanged worried glances but said nothing.
( End of flashback )
Her tears flowed freely. The pain of that day was still fresh, a wound that refused to heal. She remembered his words, his betrayal, and her own sense of helplessness. She had tried to fight for their love, for their pack, but he had chosen Anna.
In the darkness, Sarah clutched her pillow, her sobs the only sound in the silent room. She was alone, abandoned by the man she had loved, betrayed by the one she had trusted most.
