Selene tried to find some semblance of peace, but sleep wasn't her companion . She sat up, huddling her knees to her chest, her mind racing. The events of the night played over and over in her head. Just as she was about to bury her face in her knees, the door creaked open.
She looked up, surprised to see Orion. He hadn't spent the night with her since Anna came into their lives. His presence was unexpected and unwelcome.
"Selene," he said softly, stepping into the room. "Ryan told me about what happened at the lake." He walked closer, his eyes filled with concern. He sat beside her and kissed her cheek, his touch once comforting now felt cold.
Selene pulled away slightly, her voice trembling. "Someone was watching me, Orion. I don't know who, but I felt his gaze , it scanned my body like it was worshipping my body, " she said to make him angry and it worked.
Orion's expression darkened, a fierce protectiveness and possessiveness igniting in his eyes. "I'll find out who it was and kill them , No one makes my Luna feel unsafe."
Once, she had loved his possessiveness. Now, it only filled her with disgust. "Orion," she said, her voice firm. "This is your fault."
His eyes widened in surprise. "Selene, what do you mean?"
She took a deep breath, her anger bubbling to the surface. "You saved your mate instead of me. We lost our child because of it. And now this? It's like I'm not important to you at all." She stated facts , and it made him angrier.
"Selene, that's not true," Orion tried to soothe her, reaching for her hand.
She snatched her hand away, her voice rising. "Shut up! Just shut up and leave!"
"Selene, please—" he began.
"I said, leave!" she screamed, her voice breaking. "Get out! Get out!"
Orion stood there for a moment, his face now full of pain and regret. Finally, he turned and left the room, closing the door softly behind him.
As the door clicked shut, Selene sat in the silence, her mind whirling with thoughts. She was expecting him to say and beg for her forgiveness but no , she knew Orion now , he would never choose her over Anna . Then an idea pooped up , the only option left was to take control of her own fate. An idea popped up , Divorce !
She had to get her people back and demand a divorce. But how? It wasn't going to be easy.
She thought for a moment, then remembered someone who owed her a favor. A plan began to form in her mind. It was risky, but she had no other choice.
Selene got up from her bed and went to her desk, pulling out a small book she often doodled in. She flipped through the pages, muttering to herself, "Where is it? Where is it?" Finally, she found the number she was looking for. "Bingo," she whispered, crossing her fingers as she dialed the number.
The phone rang and rang, seeming like an eternity before it finally cut off. Frustrated but determined, she called again. This time, an angry voice answered. "Who the fuck are you disturbing me at this hour?"
Rolling her eyes, Selene responded, " Beta Grayson, It's me, Selene Blackstone, Luna of the Bloodmoon Pack.... Remember I once saved your daughter from being beheaded when she was caught committing adultery?"
The voice on the other end cooled down. "Ah, it's you. I thought I'd never encounter you again, but I guess the Moon Goddess has other plans."
"You promised you'd help me with something in return," Selene reminded him.
The man paused, waiting for her to continue.
"I need to talk to your Alpha Lycan King."
He laughed, a humorless sound. "What do you want to talk to him about? I don't think he'll be happy that you, a rival, even have the audacity to speak to him."
Keeping her composure, Selene retorted, "You and your daughter are also rivals, but I saved her."
He sighed. "Can't a person have sex in peace for once?"
Selene's face flushed with embarrassment. No wonder he hadn't answered initially. She heard a female voice in the background asking where he was going. "Don't worry, I'll be back. Just keep yourself wet for me," he replied.
Moments later, she heard him knock on a door, followed by a strong, masculine voice telling him to enter. " Kay , I have someone who wants to talk to you," the beta said.
"I'm busy," the deep husky voice replied.
Selene's heart sank, thinking he might also be busy with a female. But then she heard, "Leave me alone."
He's voice was so heavy and thick it sent shivers down her spine even without seeing him.
The beta begged. "Please, just talk to her."
There was a pause, then the voice came through the phone. "This is Alpha Kaiden Blackwood speaking."
She tried to imagine what he looked like, his voice possessed so much dominance. Lycans were bigger and stronger than ordinary wolves, which made them not want to do anything dealing with ordinary wolves.
To make it worse he was from a rival old time pack.
Selene steeled herself. "This is Selene Blackstone. Luna of ..." have a proposal and need your help."
"I'm not interested," he said flatly.
" I have a deal breaking proposal, " she blurt out trying to grasp his attention.
" I'm not interested ," he replied.
Undeterred, Selene continued, explaining about her child's death, Orion's mate, and her desperate situation.
Kaiden laughed as though she told him a silly joke "How does this involve me?" He furrowed his brows.
"I want a contract marriage," Selene said boldly. "I will divorce him , I need my people back, and in your favor you can exact revenge on Orion , I'm sure you have always wanted to."
Orion's pack and kaiden's pack were once at war. Under the leadership of Orion and at that time kaiden's older brother was the alpha.
However , Orion came up with a terrible plan and ended killing Kaiden's. Selene didn't know much about it, all she knew was the leadership was taken over by the young brother, which is kaiden.
He laughed again, but this time it was an extremely mocking laugh. "Women are so bitter and petty. You knew what you were getting into marrying someone who wasn't your mate , now tables have turned you want to leave."
Anger flared within Selene. "You don't know anything about it! Orion promised me he would reject his mate if he ever found her. He broke that promise and now our child is dead because of it."
Kaiden growled at her, but she didn't care.
"You're a freaking coward if you can't see the opportunity here," she said coldly before cutting the call and throwing her phone across the room, watching it shatter into pieces as she breathed heavily.
Back in Kaiden's office, he wasn't angry. He was calm Instead, something that really shocked Grayson because he was expecting him to shout because that was his reaction each time Grayson made him talk to a woman.
But instead he asked, "Who was she again?"
His Delta replied, "Selene Blackstone, Luna of the Bloodmoon Pack."
Kaiden raised an eyebrow. "And why did you owe her?"
Grayson explained, "She saved my daughter from being beheaded for adultery."
Kaiden rubbed his eyes, a smirk forming on his lips. "She was the one who saved precious Anita?"
Grayson trembled slightly. "Yes, Alpha."
Kaiden's eyes sparkled with interest. "Why didn't you say so? Get in contact with her. I would love to meet her."
Grayson nodded quickly, backing out of the room to make the necessary arrangements. Kaiden leaned back in his chair, a sly smirk playing on his lips. "So smart and fiery," he mused aloud. "No one has ever made me smirk like that. I like it."
