Chapter 1 - How it Began...

In ages past, when wealth, status, power, and fame were all seen as trivial things, and all the souls in the Cosmos saw Love as the quintessential force in Creation, there was peace. This peace was enjoyed by all the gods and goddesses who dwelled in the nine heavens and even the mortals who lived on Earth. Yet, order still had to be maintained even during this time. The ones who fulfilled this role were the heavenly royal family, known to all in heaven as the Archons. Chief Archon Zariah and Head Priestess Meera ruled over the nine heavens with complete authority. But the very Love that everyone valued above everything else, now threatens to disrupt the peace of Creation and the order that the esteemed Archons sacred are supposed to protect.

While Chief Archon Zariah and Head Priestess Meera were sovereigns who ruled justly, the gods and goddesses they begat could be rather...difficult. But not all of them. After all, Chief Archon Zariah's pride and joy was his first-born, Zemyna. She possessed a beauty that filled the heart of any god who looked upon her with an awe that they often didn't know they were even capable of feeling. Not only that, but Zemyna was also the fiercest warrior the nine realms had ever seen! Not even her parents could best her once she reached maturity. A better first-born and heir could not be asked for.

But unfortunately, Zemyna unintentionally cast a vast shadow over her brothers and sisters. The second eldest, Zemyna's brother Mordecai, seemed to not let it bother him. But many of her sisters, like Lyra, Lilianna, and Xara were openly jealous of Zemyna and treated her with contempt. Being the wise goddess she is, Head Priestess Meera warned her mate of the dangers of favoring Zemyna so much, but Chief Archon Zariah failed to heed her. How could he restrain himself from doting upon his beloved Zemyna? Asking him to do so was like asking a star not to shine. And as he showered Zemyna with affection, praise, and lavish gifts, seeds of resentment and jealousy were planted in the hearts of the other princes and princesses. They began looking for any and every opportunity to take their sister down from her pedestal. And if you seek anything long enough, you will find it.

It all began with one of the rites of passage for young gods and goddesses who were approaching maturity. During this rite the heavenly being was to go down to the mortal realm and learn the true meaning of godhood. Knowledge and the development of a god/goddess' consciousness was just as important as their combat prowess and other factors when assessing their growth and worthiness. So, while on Earth they were encouraged to interact with the men and women there and find a way to leave a significant mark on their world. Some used this as a chance to show off their gifts, giving humanity the blessing of superior technology and other sacred knowledge. Others used it as an opportunity to display their military prowess by building large armies that led unstoppable campaigns. This is how Earth's earliest and greatest civilizations were founded. There were even those who used this rite of passage as a means to experiment on the creatures there and see if they could create new life. Such experiments often lead to the birth of legendary species like dragons, leviathans, and giants. But if a god/goddess did or made something during the rite that threw Earth irreparably out of balance, the slate was wiped clean by a cataclysm and they would have to try again in a few millenia. In accordance with the Law of Creation, the time an immortal being could dwell among mortals had to be severely limited to preserve the cosmic balance and prevent unnatural interference in the evolution of humanity.

Now, it was known to many who witnessed Zemyna's trial that she developed an affinity for mortals that most higher beings do not share. While they couldn't comprehend what caused her to develop such sentiment toward humans, no one uttered a word about it. Everyone knew that saying anything that even appeared remotely negative concerning Zemyna was akin to courting death. So, the residents of heaven stayed silent and wrote her odd demeanor off as a kind of benevolence. But soon every soul in the higher realms was about to discover the true nature of Zemyna's fascination with the mortal realm and nothing would be the same again.
