Chereads / Overlord: My Reign as Ainz / Chapter 6 - Subjugated Demihumans

Chapter 6 - Subjugated Demihumans

The following months passed calmly. I didn't have to do much.

The dwarves of the Sorcerer Kingdom had already settled in Carne Village. I gave them three days off a week and a residence in the center of the future multicultural city.

For now, the village housed goblins, trolls, humans, and now dwarves.

It was my experimental town, where I would prove whether coexistence between species was possible.

At the moment, I have several species under my banner, but only a few will be given the title of "main races"—those with enough members to have representation.

"These are:

- The Lizardmen, under Cocytus's command, the first race to be conquered under Nazarick's banner. Great warriors.

- The Dwarves, represented by Gondo, will be my lead builders in the Sorcerer Kingdom. For now, there aren't many, but their importance earned them representation.

- The Quagoa, represented by Pe Riyuro. Maruyama said that if it weren't for Ainz, the Quagoa would have been something akin to Genghis Khan. That's why I only killed half of them. Knowing that demihumans only respect strength, we made a deal: Quagoa children who consumed hard minerals when young would join the Sorcerer King's army, while the others would work in mines searching for rare minerals.

- The Dryads, who live on the sixth floor of Nazarick, creating fruits. Their contribution to agriculture is essential. I'm considering exporting them outside Nazarick for larger harvests. Their leader is Pinison, a canonical character who lived in the Great Forest of Tob. I saved her, and now she serves me.

- The Frost Dragons, numbering only a few dozen. They shouldn't have representation, but like the dwarves, their importance earned it. They would serve as glorified airplanes and couriers in exchange for a considerable sum of money. They would also be excellent cartographers for discovering new lands.

- And, of course, the most common race: Humans. I wasn't sure who their representative would be. I considered Jircniv, but for now, he's the leader of a vassal state. In the end, I chose Enri, the Goblin Leader and wife of the most talented alchemist in the kingdom, Nferia.

The races that don't yet have representation are the goblins, trolls (though it's possible that the Warrior King, Go Gin, will represent his species in the future), and all the species of the Abelion Hills that haven't yet bowed to me.

"Speaking of the Abelion Hills… should I spare Buser?"

Buser was the strongest of the Bafolk. Known for his martial arts skills in breaking weapons, all participants in his hunts had returned unharmed so far. As a result, he commanded great respect as a ruler. He had united many tribes and had complete control over the Bafolk of the Abelion Hills region.

From the perspective of his species, which obeyed under his rule, Buser was considered a charismatic leader respected by all. However, although he was seen as a powerful warrior, when pushed to the wall, he was a coward who feared death. He also had no loyalty to his master, Jaldabaoth.

The problem lay in the set of three baby skulls chained together hanging from his waist. Though they held no charm, he considered them the latest fashion.

That was the issue. He was cruel, but also an experienced warrior.

Maruyama, the author of *Overlord*, said that Buser was a warlord and a king above Ramposa but below Pe Riyuro and Zanack.

He was also an honorable warrior. According to the author, he wasn't truly evil—why? Because he considered humans food.

"I'll spare him if he agrees not to kill humans from the Sorcerer Kingdom."

Decided, I would speak with the demihuman leaders.

[Message]

"Demiurge, I'm going to the Abelion Hills to subjugate the demihumans. How have the Quagoa integrated?"

"The Quagoa are having territorial disputes with the Stone Eaters, but I've already resolved that issue, Ainz-sama."

"Hmm, just as I imagined."

"Your wisdom impresses me, my lord."

"Oh? I don't see it as that big a deal."

It was normal for two cave-dwelling species to fight, right?

"Well, I'm going to subjugate the demihuman tribes and bring them civilization. Goodbye, Demiurge."

"My blessings, Ainz-sama."

x-x-x-x-x

I teleported to the Abelion Hills using *Gate*.

The subjugation of the Abelion tribes went smoothly. I asked Demiurge to contact one of his summons, and this summon would call the leaders of each tribe.

They quickly questioned who I was and where Jaldabaoth, their master, was, arrogantly mistaking me for a slightly larger-than-average human.

I lied, saying that Jaldabaoth had died by my hands, that I was now their leader, and that from now on, I was their king. My first order was that they stop eating humans—from now on, they would be fed with livestock from the Sorcerer Kingdom.

The demihumans didn't believe it. Someone as powerful as Jaldabaoth couldn't die so easily.

"So here we are. Do you believe me now? Time's up."

I had paralyzed the entire demihuman army I had brought with a single spell (*Despair Aura*, level 1). The demihumans were on the ground—some unconscious, others nauseous. The only ones who partially resisted the spell were five:

- King Buser, leader of the Bafolk.

- Rokesh, ruler of the Naga Raja tribes.

- Vijar Rajandala, ruler of the Zoastia tribes.

- Nasrene Belt Cure, ruler of the Magalos tribes.

- Halisha Ankara, ruler of the Stone Eaters.

These five must be around level 20, with Buser above level 30.

These five were paralyzed.

But only Buser spoke, being in the best condition.

"We surrender. Accept us as your subjects. We won't eat humans. Please, forgive us."

"Wise man, you will be the representative of the Abelion Hills. Make sure to follow my orders to the letter. If I see you eating humans from the Holy Kingdom or the Sorcerer Kingdom, I will eradicate the culprit's species."

The five leaders couldn't speak, believing my words. I seemed as fearsome as Jaldabaoth.

However, that was it—just as fearsome. They needed proof that Jaldabaoth was dead to live securely.

"Forgive us, Great King Ainz Ooal Gown. Do you have any proof that Jaldabaoth is dead? If he returns, I fear for our lives."

I pulled an item from my inventory—Jaldabaoth's broken, bloodied mask.

"You will never see Jaldabaoth again. You have my word. Now that I rule these hills, I will inform the surrounding countries of his death and his plans to force you to conquer the Holy Kingdom. Tomorrow, you will have human merchants and adventurers. You must treat them with the proper reception according to your traditions."

I continued:

"The adventurers will come asking to explore the land for rare herbs and minerals. Let them explore."

"The merchants will come asking to pass through to the Holy Kingdom. Let them pass."

"There will be many changes from now on. You will dedicate yourselves to livestock and trade, and you will wage war against whomever I say."

"Understood, Your Majesty," Buser said.

"You're intelligent. I've heard of you, Buser—a sworn enemy of the Holy Kingdom. You will be one of my generals. How does that sound?"

"It's an honor."

I felt satisfied with how the exchange turned out.

"Just to be sure, what must you do with the humans tomorrow?"

"Not kill them. If they're adventurers, let them explore. If they're merchants, let them pass to the Holy Kingdom," he said quickly.

"And if you don't?"

"Our species will be exterminated."

"I'm glad you understand."
