The afternoon sunlight streamed through the window as Jessica lay sprawled on her bed, her novel forgotten on her nightstand.
She had planned to read more but had barely managed a few pages before the memory of last night with Damon kept intruding.
A soft knock on the door jolted her from her thoughts.
"Jessica?" came Lilian's voice from the other side.
Jessica hesitated for a moment, then swung her legs over the side of the bed and walked to the door. She opened it to find Lilian standing there, her expression warm and curious.
"I hope I'm not interrupting something? Can I come in?" Lilian asked with a cheerful smile.
Jessica nodded, stepping aside to let her in. "Sure."
Lilian walked in, her gaze briefly scanning the room before settling on the chair by Jessica's desk. She sat down gracefully and crossed her legs, her smile as casual as her tone when she asked, "What were you doing?"
