Chapter 30 - Sir Ezra

The street was empty, stores closed, houses locked and there was no single person in sight, "this is Luther city" Ezra said as he dropped her then pointed to the sign board behind, 'Luther city' it said but the city's gate was locked just like Guttric city, "did the witches kill everyone here?" Hazel asked, "no, the leaders placed the citizens on a curfew, in few minutes the curfew would be lifted and as soon as the sun set they would be back indoors" Ezra said, "the middle of the city is where the massacre happened, according to the map it matches with the shape the witches wants to create" he added "if you know all this why didn't you stop them" Hazel asked, looking at him inquisitively, "I just knew. There was no way I would have known about their plan, if I hadn't felt their presence in Sermion city, the killing had gone wild in Sermion city and I couldn't stop it so I had to try repelling them from Guttric city" he said as he stepped forward into the city and her expression eased but he suddenly stopped walking, "I am no a saint Hazel, I wouldn't have bothered if it were other creatures causing the killings as far as I am not affected" he muttered "but I hate witches, I hate those bitches a lot" he said with a chill in his voice and murdering intent in his cold eyes, Hazel trembled slightly and he suddenly pulled her into his embrace "you are an exception, I would kill any creature trying to harm you, nobody has the right to hurt, bully or touch my little thief" he whispered and she said nothing, she only stayed in his embrace, her feelings were complicated, "what if I asked for your help to save some people?" she muttered "I would gladly do it, except they have harmful intention towards you" he muttered back and her body unconsciously relaxed, the two figures hugging under the snow, in the middle of an empty street was such beautiful sight until the loud ring of the city's bell interrupted them, doors and windows flung open, people trooped into the street, all getting themselves busy, the once empty street was immediately filled, "let's go" Ezra said, walking into the street with his right hand holding on to Hazel's own. Everyone were heavily dressed for the winter and there were barely any difference difference between the poor and the rich, it was a small city though, a city where everyone knew everyone, "who is that, with sir Ezra?" people mouthed to one another as they passed, they all had inquisitive and judging looks on their faces, "you are popular here, popular in a good way I would say" Hazel muttered "i have a good relationship with the leaders here" Ezra said "we can teleport to the middle of the city if you feel uncomfortable" he added "no I am fine, I am okay strolling" she said and he said nothing more, he only guided her and kept her company silently, not long they passed a cloth stall, which had a beautiful beige and sand brown coloured male winter cloth on display and she turned to Ezra, he was dressed in his usual black robe, the only difference was that it was fastened, "you want me to try it" Ezra asked noticing her gaze and she smiled awkwardly, "we have no money" she said "all you need is to give me your affirmation" he said, she looked back at the cloth, imagining the cloth on Ezra and she smiled slightly, "try it and if it fits well maybe you should buy it" she muttered, a smile walked up to his face as he led her to the stall, atleast she knew what would be good on him, maybe that was an improvement in their relationship. "Good day sir Ezra, how has winter being" the shop attendant greeted as soon as they stepped into the stall and he suddenly paused "who is this damse...." "Keep your compliments, she is my Fiancee" Ezra said and Hazel gave him a brief look then turned away without a word, she only smiled faintly at the the shop attendant who smiled widely "now I understand, sir Ezra has such damsel by his side it's impossible to look at our poor looking ladies" the shop attendant said "so what does sir Ezra and his Fiancee want?" he asked "that winter cloth" Ezra said his gaze on the cloth "Sir Ezra has such good taste.." "she chose it, I wouldn't have patronized you at all" Ezra said, the smile on the shop attendant's only brightened "that's one.." "John, bring down the cloth, we have places to be" Ezra said with an irritated frown and the shop attendant turned serious, he immediately walked to pull down the cloth and handed them to Ezra then he pointed to the changing room, "you could change your cloth there, sir Ezra" he said, "I would sit here and wait for you" Hazel muttered "don't run off" he whispered "I know no where, I can't run even if I want to" she muttered and he gave her a brief kiss then turned to the shop attendant, "take of her, but don't talk to her or move close to her" he said and strolled off while the shop a question mark expression on his face, he looked at Hazel with an awkward expression "miss.." "just call me Hazel" she said and he sniffed, he wish he could "what would you like, tea, coffee or wine" he asked "I am fine don't bother" she muttered and turned her gaze outside, not long three ladies ran into the cloth stall excitedly, their dresses were a bit off for the cold weather and their faces had heavy make ups, "John, where is sir Ezra, we heard he his in the city and he came here" they asked simultaneously and John gave Hazel a brief look but she looked very calm, she only watch the ladies with interest in her eyes and he heaved a relief sigh in his head "you girls never learn, sir Ezra embarrases you all the time but you come running over every time he his in the city" John said "that's because we know he would fall for one of us one day" the one in the front muttered and the others nodded, "the last time he was here, he gave me a pear" the one behind said and the others frowned "he gave you a pear and you never mentioned it to..." Just then Ezra stepped out of the dressing room, the three girls eagerly awaiting his emergence couldn't contain their excitement. They gasped at his looks, his chiseled figures perfectly fitted the cloth, they rushed forward hoping to get his attention, but as their enthusiasm was met with a wall of indifference, he glanced at them, his eyes scanning over their eager faces his gaze filled with unhidden disgust and without a flicker of interest, the girls' faces fell, their smiles faltering, despite their best efforts to appear alluring, their attempts at seduction were met with a cold shoulder, his gaze swept past them, locking onto his Hazel with a warm smile, he strode towards her, his long strides eating up the distance, leaving the disappointed girls in his wake, they watched, their faces twisted in a mix of surprise and shock as he embraced his girl, they hadn't noticed Hazel before, "who was she" they questioned in their heads, they heard the folks talking about it that sir Ezra came to the city with a girl but they didn't believe it until now, "that's his fiancee" John whispered to them and their faces twisted with anger and frustration, he stepped away from the girls and strolled to Ezra, "the cloth was tailored for you, sir Ezra, it looks so good on you" John said but Ezra didn't reply instead he handed him a small bag of coins and strolled away with Hazel who had a surprised look on her face.
