Bai Qiuhe took out a jade slip from his spirit ring.
The so-called jade slip, as opposed to the bamboo slip, dated back to ancient times when humans recorded ancient characters on bamboo strips. These strips were bound together to form what was called bamboo slips.
Bamboo slips were, relatively speaking, more archaic tools for recording written characters.
But jade slips were far superior to bamboo slips.
After a long period of exploration, the ancients discovered that jade contained spiritual energy from heaven and earth and could be used to absorb and store this spiritual energy. Similarly, messages containing spiritual energy could be recorded in them, and they were very stable, not disappearing even over very long periods.
Thus, cultivators began to create jade slips the size of a thumb's bodhi, also called jade cocoons. Using spiritual energy, they inscribed text or thoughts into them, forming jade slips that contained legacy cultivation techniques or other information.
