CASSIE (AVERY) đŻđ
Why do I even care about him walking again? I love how conscious I am in regards to sticking to the business I was sent here to do but when it comes to him, I don't even understand myself. Here I am, going back to help him out with his wheelchair. Nonetheless, I was going to be paid for this, I'd better get my act right.
I have never been scared of making eye contact, that's how confident Avery is, but, I guess Cassie now feels a weird pang of hurt in her chest when she stares at Logan Wellington. How innocent and ignorant he is, if indeed Lois is after his fortune, I wonder how he would take the news.
I can't even judge her because I'm here for the same thing but he wouldn't get hurt if he just spills the truth about it or hopefully, Lois has found it and is willing to negotiate we could split it and I'll leave them for good, never to be seen again.
It's for my revenge after all, I just need him to be more cooperative since he's done nothing wrong but to have what I need to achieve my goal.
The family was nice to wait until we caught up with them and Heather playfully scrunched up Logan's hair.
"Aunt!" he screamed.
Heather giggled, "Still the same boy, my dear,"
"Oh come on, I'm not ten anymore," he protested.
"No matter how old you grow, Logan you'll always look like a tiny baby in our eyes. How I remember you running around with your little bum," Evelyn chirped.
I let out a laugh.
Logan frowned as his cheeks reddened, "Is this a deliberate attempt to embarrass me?"
"They had a chat about kids and nephews at the spa today with their friends, that's probably why, Logan," Jesse explained.
"I guess that explains it, what else did you guys talk about?"
"Nothing much, just girl's talk," Heather said dismissively, "Oh and Cassie, you couldn't come with us so we got a few dresses, love. We'll show you after dinner," she added.
"OhâŠ"
"I don't think that was necessary," Logan snapped when we were just a stone's throw from the main door.
It wasn't necessary, yes but what's his deal?
"There were really nice dresses,we couldn't just walk past them," Evelyn defended.
"You've never gotten Lois anything," he muttered and with that, he independently wheeled himself indoors, leaving the rest of us flabbergasted.
After a brief moment of silence, Heather yawned, "Gosh! I'm starving," she announced, taking off her shoes at the entrance and handed them to a maid.
Evelyn took my hand and we walked inside with Jesse following behind, his attention was fully invested in the game that he was playing.
I slowly freed my hand from Evelyn while she was dishing out orders for a maid to serve appetisers before the main dish. The way Logan's mood changed was confusing, they haven't gotten Lois anything? How's that my fault? Maybe there's more to that phonecall that he had with Lois than I thought, something that was probably related to me.
The family's unbothered behaviour added made things more complex, maybe they didn't approve of Lois?
My head kept racking until I got to my room to see Rosita at the entrance.
"Hi, good evening," I greeted, rubbing my neck with my right palm as I reached out for the door knob.
"I know where you went to," she suddenly said and it felt like a ton of bricks fell from my chest to my stomach.
Slowly, I turned to look at her, "What do you mean?"
"I saw you, Cassie," she whispered.
Before she could blink, I grabbed her by her wrist and pulled her inside the room, locking the door behind me. Before dragging her all the way to the bathroom and locking the door as well.
I'm so screwed how am I ever get her to shut up or even kill her and hide her body without anyone noticing? Dexter would murder me, worse Rodrigo and Eddie would live in peace after all they did to me.
"What do you mean, Rosita?"
"Why are you doing this? Why take such a huge risk that could ruin your life?"
She definitely knows. F*ck, this isn't good, this isn't good!
I can't even find the right words to say, my hands are shaking vigoursly and I clenched my fists to hide them, "Iâ"
"Didn't you discuss this with your lover?" Rosita asked, her voice low.
Hold up.
"Lover?"
"Yes, the man you went to see today. Does Madame Theresa know about this? You're a soon to be surrogate mother of one of the most powerful families in England, Cassie. You can't be found with other men at least not when you aren't pregnant,"
A cool sensation spread round my body like I was being baptized with a soft chilly rain of relief.
I chuckled, "Thank you for looking out for me, Rosita but that man isn't my lover," I explained.
Her lips parted in shock, "Then who is he?"
I needed to come up with something believable, "One of my mother's debtor, he's been bothering me all week. I know that it'll be risky to deal with him at the house's entrance so I asked him to drive off," I lied.
"I'm so sorry, I quickly assumed and â"
"It's fine,"
So much for meeting up with Jesse, guess we'll have to find another place to meet without surveillance.
"Were you able to pay him up?" She asked.
"Not yet but after Theresa pays me, I will. I wanted to ask him for more time,"
Rather than a verbal response, Rosita pulled me into a warm embrace, rubbing my back softly. The blissful scent from rosemary and thyme filled my nostrils, I bet that she was amongst those cooking today. I'd usually pull out from hugs as soon as possible but hers, hers sent unfathomable tingles to my body. Like I'd remain there forever.
"You poor thing, what ever did you do to deserve this?" She sobbed.
Her words pierced my chest. I guess we'll never have an answer to that question.
