Chapter 10 - NIGHT

And my fear came true she beat me until I was unconscious and then dragged me back to the cave.

And it was morning again.

But it was not peaceful because as soon as I woke up, I looked at her and…

"YOU B*TCH!!!" these were the words that I yelled before she punched me in my liver and I lost consciousness… again.

I woke up again and I felt losing consciousness had become a normal thing for me because ever since coming here all I did was to be not conscious.

It became a normal thing for me. It felt like I was taking a leak.

 So,

"Don't you dare hit me you bi…."

"I said don't hit me you bi…"

"1000 year old bi…"

"You are 1000…"

"B*tch please stop hitting me. huh…" This time I dodged her attack. I was surprised.

Even she looked shocked.

"Maybe your knees are not able…" Dodging her attack made me arrogant and I said this, but this time she hit harder. And the inevitable happened.

This continued for days.

And one day I woke up and didn't say anything because I felt like I was wasting time instead of finding my brother.

I summoned water and drank it then started eating fruits and waited for night.

The entrance of the cave lay at some sort of small mountain

Soon I walked out of the cave and as usual, Amaris followed right after me.

We could see greenery; plants and trees everywhere.

"We came from that direction, right?"-me

"NOD NOD"-Amaris

"Then let's go in that direction," I said as I pointed in the opposite direction from where we came.

It was like this->

Place came from -> cave entrance -> place where we are going.

And soon I started walking and left that place.

An hour has passed since I left the place. I continued to move.

While walking I began to think about my previous world, more specifically about my family.

Our family was close but complicated.

My father worked as a project manager for a local construction company. He was strict and reserved, and it was difficult for him to express his feelings.

My mother was a kind-hearted woman with a love for gardening who always showed her feelings and affection openly.

Chris, my younger brother, took after her and shared her warmth and expressive nature.

My father and I never talked much because every time we did it would end up badly. Our ideals and goals were very different. This is what we people call the generational gap.

Anyway,

It was a Thursday, a normal day in every sense.

Dad left for work, with his usual kiss on mom's cheek and a promise to be home by six of the clock. But six o'clock came and went, and there was no sign of him.

Mom called his office to find that he had left at the usual time. Panic set in as the hours ticked by because it was the first time something like this happened. We called friends, colleagues, and even the local hospitals, but there was no trace of him.

The police were called in, but they could not find anything. It was as if he had vanished into thin air and days turned into weeks and weeks into months with no leads or answers.

During this turmoil, Chris and I tried to support mom as best we could. But just when we thought things couldn't get any worse, Mom was diagnosed with cancer…

The hospital bills were piling up, so Chris and I took on odd jobs to pay for her treatment.

Sometime later, I became a cop.

One of the incentives of being a government agent was that the hospital treatment became free, which significantly eased our financial burden.

While my primary reason for becoming a cop was to cover the hospital expenses, I had a secondary motive: to find out what happened to my father, who had gone missing years ago.

Eventually, I solved my father's missing case.

I discovered that he had been killed because he witnessed his boss engaging in illegal activities. His boss had him murdered and then bribed corrupt officers to cover it up.

When I broke the news to my mother, she was devastated and passed away shortly after.

After everything that happened, Chris suggested to take a vacation. So, we took a car and went away for a while. That sums up my story.

And we are back at the cave because the sun is about to rise.

We weren't able to find anything on this journey. All we could see were trees and hills.

The next night, Let's call it Night 2.

We covered the same distance.

Night 3, we covered the same distance.

Night 4

We ran, without worrying about the distance, we ran. I wanted to check how much distance can we cover in 4 hours.

Returning time, all the running took a toll on my body. So, I was a little slow in returning, which caused sun rays to hit me.

Luckily I was near the cave, which prevented my death but still it gave me a second-degree burn.

I tore Arthur's clothes that were inside the pouch, made them in strips, and applied them to my burnt areas. Which was on my left hand and left side of my face.

Night 5

Rest…

Night 6

Rest…

Night 7

I went out again and ran again.

This time I covered more distance than I did in Night 4.

And this time I found a cave. That was 31 miles approx. 50 km ahead of the previous one.

But this cave was not empty. It was filled with green creatures. Their backs were crooked and their eyes were yellow. They have green hair and yellow crooked teeth.

Some were dancing, some were sleeping, and some eating what looked like human limbs.

We were 50 m away from the cave.

And the creatures, known as goblins were camping right outside the cave.

I will not make an amateur mistake and will consider that there are more goblins inside the caves.

And I will not attack them now but surely in the future.

For now, I will return to the previous cave…
