Karim's POV:
The morning sun filtered through the blinds, casting a soft, golden light across the room. I lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling, replaying the events of the previous night in my mind. Sleep had been elusive, and it was no wonder why.. everything that had happened weighed heavily on my thoughts.
Kristen had finally fallen asleep beside me, her breathing steady and calm, but I hadn't been able to quiet the storm inside my head. The ambush, the close call, the conversation that had followed.. it all played on a loop, reminding me of the precarious line we were walking. I had always known my job came with risks, but now those risks felt more tangible, more personal.
