As I ended the call with my mom, I felt a lingering sense of unease. I had managed to convince her for now, but I knew there would come a day when I would have to face the reality of the situation. The thought of meeting a man my parents had chosen for me, someone I felt nothing for, was overwhelming. Standing in the grocery store, the initial joy and anticipation I had felt earlier were now replaced by a heavy sense of duty and confusion. My mind was a whirlwind of thoughts about Karim and the life my parents had envisioned for me. The tension between my love for Karim and my obligation to my family was palpable.
