Chapter 29 - Chapter 29

To show their gratitude, for getting rid of these unknown plants, and informing them about their existence, both Church of Alen and Kingdom of Alerih army members gave him magical resources he wanted.

While they were for them to get transported, Dezen asked them something he was wondering about.

- Have there been more accidents like that across the country? - He looked at members of Church of Alen. - Or somewhere else?

Woman from the Church of Alen answered.

- Yes. Both in the Alerih Kingdom and in the other countries. They don't seem to have any patter. Luckily, most of them are not deadly, or big. However, we are unable to prevent them from appearing, since even our leader failed while trying. Currently, we, and the other countries, keep their existence as a secret, to not cause any panic. We have also made preparations, in case the situation became more chaotic.

Dezen analysed in his mind what she said, before speaking.

- Are there any ways to predict it happening? And how dangerous can these "accidents" be?

- To predict it you will have to be expert of space magic and make spell to sense its activity. Alternatively, if it turns out you have special talent of space magic, you could sense it naturally at some point. The most dangerous we are aware of, was poison, which killed half of pursuit squad. Although, there is a low chance you will encounter something so deadly, you should treat them as serious threat.

- I understand... I am grateful. Now, what about this catalogue?

Dezen went through the catalogue, and it didn't seem like he encountered any creature that doesn't belong to The Liveliest Forest. He then quickly came back to the caravan camp, using space magic, to get as much sleep as possible.

The next day, he had to use one spell, to make his body fell like it had slept longer. Although he wanted to make plans regarding the future, Dezen decided to with it to the end of his watch.

As usually, Dezen wanted to leave the camp, when his free time started, but Chloe stopped him, wanting to ask him about something.

- I know you can use necromancy on people, but how far can it go?

- What do you mean? Like body modifications?

- Yes. Like that. Not that I want you to do one on me, I'm just curious.

- No. Unluckily, necromancy is limited to only healing living beings, and temporarily improving the body of the necromancer. Perhaps there is something more, I am not aware of, but I can't make modifications.

- And haven't you thought about making magic which can do this? It would be easier for you to get better undead, I mean, you can modify them as you want, breed and when they die, they will be ready to serve you. No need to change them. Perhaps you could also sell them, and do whatever this much would be able to. Though, I understand it's not easy to make new magic. I was wondering if you thought about it.

- My brother did. But I didn't try it yet. There were many things to do, and I wanted to focus on necromancy. Also, even if I created it, after modifications, I would have to wait until they have children to kill them, or until they die naturally, keeping them would cost me.

- Maybe you could sell some of them?

- I thought about it too, but there are many other things that need to be thought about, before doing it. Anyway, thank you, I appreciate that you think how I could develop.

Chloe smiled and went away. She wasn't infatuated by Dezen, she only wanted to help him as she could, and was happy that he appreciated it.

Dezen left the camp, and while travelling, he was thinking about the current situation of the world. He knew that alone, he cannot prepare for every danger, that may appear, but organizations like Church of Alen can. Although he didn't plan joining it, he could closely work with church, in exchange for safety. The best payment Dezen could think of were his undead. They can be used as cannon flesh, easily replaced, and work every hour, unlike humans who need to rest.

Suddenly, Dezen stopped, and told to himself.

- What if... What if I could rent my undead, not only to church, but also to kingdom and maybe even lodges? No, it's impossible yet. I don't have reputation to do it. Nor do I have undead and mana to keep them. But in the future, when I develop... That's possible... And something worth of making it a goal. - He stopped talking, and took his monologue into his mind.

"Now, what would I need for this? The first thing is more undead. Wolves and bears with changed shapes are good, but for the really dangerous "cases" I will need something stronger, like wendigos. I could hunt them, and other magical creatures, but I can't rely on that. Breeding them? Well, it will take some time, but if I had that magic..."

Dezen thought about the undead he left with Alex. He didn't want to tell it to Chloe, but one of them was already attempting to make such magic, and he is over halfway there.

"I will have to wait for years, for "mass production", "mass breeding"?. Anyway, it is the best option I have now. I will just have to make them mature and reproduce faster, or I will have it ready, when they will have already developed ways of protecting against such appearances. Undead that are made from normal creatures will be good enough too, I just need more intelligent undead to modify them. I can't make them smart, but I can get more human undead. Something else can I do? I can breed normal animals and plants. Using magical resources will be too costly, at least at the begging, but I can still use them on power of the undead. Claiming my own magical resources point is impossible, but maybe some day."

Dezen tried to make an outline of the plan, regarding the source of the undead, before he started thinking about the next step.

"Secondly, I will need more mana. If I gradually make more undead, my mana production will be increasing too, but it will be too slow. Maybe if I cultivated most of my time, but I will need to get more intelligent undead, and prepare them, before I can spend most of my time on this. Next, I will have to think about distribution, prices, competition..."

While planning, Dezen continued his hunt, but this time, he wanted to catch animals, not kill them. He also ordered his undead st his house, to create space where he could temporarily hold them, and informed Alex about this, via his undead. He was doing it before, so it was nothing extraordinary.

This hunt was nothing to talk about. They couldn't find any predator, and turning other animals into killing machines would take too much time. The only thing he revived were bugs, since Dezen saw some potential in having a horde of them.
