Chapter 19 - Chapter 19

The next part of this project is completing the undead wolf's body.

This part didn't take too long, since he doesn't have too many gasps. Theoretically, Dezen could make him complete from the begging, but the way he chose is more convenient for him.

Third and the last part is improving quality of his body. However, Dezen hasn't made needed spells yet, thus he has to put it aside for the future.

Now, that this undead because quite important, instead of calling him "The biggest undead wolf", Dezen decided to give him a name.

After thinking for a few minutes, he chose the name Nanan.

Now, Nanan will undergo many tests to see his limits and find flaws. When they end, Dezen will get rid of these he can, and try to weaken these he can't "repair".

These tests will be overseen by Alex, since he doesn't have any work, and this is kind of entertainment for him.

Now, Dezen will be continuing cultivation, examining creatures and so on.

As for now, his main goal is to make a spell, which will help nastecs adapt to having enslavement mana in their bodies.

He was waiting for months, but they are still wounded and always come back to his state, after he heals them. Although, they show sing of slow regeneration, if it can be called like that, Dezen doesn't want to wait longer, nor keep using spell eliminating their pain.

During creation, nothing extraordinary happened. The only worth attention thing, was that Dezen came up with idea, how to greatly improve spell creation method.

It took him 3 weeks and 5 days, but it didn't work. Dezen tried multiple times, and even gave enslavement mana to random plant, at the same time using this spell, to see if it needs some special conditions to work.

Turned out, that it still doesn't work.

It annoyed and made Dezen angry, but instead of living beings, it worked on undead. He discovered that, when he used this spell on his undead trees, absorbing nature mana, to see if it could help them.

Seeing it, his wrath stopped, replaced with nothing. Dezen didn't know how to feel, so he just started creating enchanted item with that spell, so his undead trees will absorb nature mana faster.

After 2 more weeks, they used every magical resource that Dezen bought, and started working almost like they were alive. To test if it makes them give eatable fruits, he ordered them to create some. One is the apple tree, and the other is plum tree, thus they have such possibility.

He also ordered one of them to bury in the ground, to see if it changes anything.

Few days passed, before first fruits appeared. Dezen used this time to plan tests, checking what are the limits of necromancy, when it comes to affecting living beings.

The taste of the fruits was bitter, and they caused stomach ache, but nothing besides this, thus Dezen decided that he won't eat them, unless there is no better option.

The next thing he wanted to test, were their abilities and limits.

Nature magic is known from healing, making living beings stronger, supporting their development, and even controlling them (living beings), at higher "levels".

For Dezen it is perfect, because every of these abilities is solving one of his problems.

Healing abilities will let Dezen leave Alex, and know that he will be healed if something happens to him.

Currently, he leaves him with enchanted items, made especially for this, but they are not always reliable.

Strengthening living beings, and helping them develop, can be used to speed up the process of growing plant and animals. It will help him with lack of food during his travels, and can be used to earn more money.

Furthermore, this ability, also lets mages give small amount of power to normal people, (like higher durability and strength) and help develop their bodies. For instance, if someone worked out with help of nature magic, his gains will be higher.

Controlling beings can be not possible yet, since it requires a strong nature magic user, but Dezen is willing to invest in it. It is because it will support his, and enslavement undead enslaving abilities.

Dezen's enslavement magic is not bad, but his enslavement undead can enslave only weak creatures. To change it, he would have to give them enormous amount of his mana, more corpses of Royal ants, or bought enslavement magical resources. The latter is the fastest way, but since nature magic can help with it, and is more versatile for Dezen as for now, he is more likely to buy nature magical resources.

As he expected, nature undead lack only the ability to control living beings. Besides this, they can also use them (abilities) on undead.

Dezen wasn't sure if it is because they're also undead, or because they all are his undead, but something was telling him it was the latter.

Right when he ended tests, Alex came to him, as if he was waiting for such moment.

He started, uncertain.

- Dezen, I think I have to tell you something. I noticed that you have problems with remembering and noticing things, which are not very important to you. At first, I was thinking it is because you have many things to do, and you simply don't care, nor can remember everything. Also, it is not that I had many chances to notice it, but lately it became worse. I was thinking about it, and maybe... It is caused by necromancy.

Dezen was silent, while thinking about it. Quickly, he noticed, that he really has countless small gasps in his memory, which he had never before becoming a mage.

They were hard to describe, like void in place where should be memories, somehow different from normal oblivion

- It is... - He sighed. - possible. And it will be, it is really, really problematic.

Dezen started thinking about solutions, to his problem with memory and paying attention to what is happening around him.

- Is there any possible way for you to deal with it? I was thinking about modifying your brain, but from what you told me, you're not able to do this yet. Maybe some spell? Writing down things which are worth remembering?

Dezen sighed once more - The spell won't be possible... Necromancy cannot modify living beings, so it, probably, will be a failure. Another possibility is making undead who will do these things for me, but it would have to be something able to talk. Getting human undead will be hard, unless I want to become a criminal. And even if I manage to get one, walking with it everywhere will be... How should I say it, inconvienient.

Alex responded unsecure. - I think I know what you mean.

- Better solution would some small animal, that I can easily hide, or protect, but making it intelligent and able to talk is beyond my possibilities. Maybe Church of Alen has some way to help me. Speaking of which, if necromancy causes such a problem, its worth in their eyes will be lowered. I will have to examine more creatures, to buy space magic and for building teleportation station. - Dezen said more to himself than to Alex. - Maybe I can make them deeper, so they won't give me too many of them. Anyway, I will focus on examinations now. Is there something else you want to talk about?

- If you need human undead, can't you get an assignment from Church of Alen, or any other force, to kill bandits? Not only you would get information where they are, and how strong they are, but you will be even paid.

- I was thinking about it, but I have never seen an assignment like that. However, I didn't have a chance to see too many of them, so there is still a chance. I will ask Zan, when I go to the Aren the next time.

- By the way, what are nature undead abilities?

Dezen answered Alex's question, making him go silent for a moment.

- Does these flaws can really make necromancy value lower? Nature undead alone would be invaluable help during wars. They could heal soldiers during fights, and give them advantage over the enemies. Controlling enemies is not necessary, but would be useful too. Maybe they can be used against nature mages who can do this. Besides this, undead can be used to alleviate the problem of mages shortage.

Alex stopped speaking, letting Dezen think about his words.

- What you said is true, but not that beautiful. Undead can do these things, but it will cost a lot of magical resources. Also, they are stupid, so they need someone who will oversee them and detailed instructions how to act. However, what you said is true. If you present it this way, I have possibility to negotiate.
