- Was there something more you wanted to tell me, when you were saying how necromancy can be used during wars?
- Maybe before we continue, shall we go to the house? I think it will be a better place to talk.
Dezen nodded, and they both went to their home, sit at the table, and continued talking.
- I wanted to add how useful it alone will be. We both know that during wars, losing too many soldiers will be a problem, but with necromancy, if they die, you can still use them. Their number will be even higher, because after battles, you can revive corpses of enemies.
- That's true. However, even undead can be destroyed, though it is hard to achieve. Maybe I can make a spell preventing it from happening at all. Who knows.
- I wonder what else can necromancy do, and we don't know. Maybe it can affect souls? It affected your negatively, so it should be possible.
- I try to do this (use necromancy to affect souls) once a month, but I can't even start making such spell, or use necromancy mana to somehow work on my soul.
- And what about soul magic? You should have created it already.
- I should, but I can't. Although my soul creates such mana, I can only move it, not even give to undead or any living being. Creation of any spell is blocked at the last step. I don't know what causes it, and currently I have no idea, nor any way to deal with it.
Dezen leaned forward, resting his chin on his hand. On the other hand, Alex leaned back on his chair.
- At least you can still develop as a necromancer, and it gives various possibilities.
- Yes, but I still want to travel through the world. And it requires more than necromancy. And higher battle strength.
- Right, you never know when you will encounter some criminal, madman, or psychopath. Also, other countries may not appreciate our visits.
- Yeah... I will go back to examinations.
Dezen stood up, and left the house, going to one of his undead snakes.
He took him to a special building, where he does examinations, and while cutting through his body, Dezen started wondering how long it will take.
" If I focus mainly on examinations, beside them only cultivating, and improving spell creation method, it can take over 3 months. But if I want to make them visibly, significantly deeper, I have to create at least one more spell to improve them. Or few. Then, maybe 4-5 months, with all the tests..."
Dezen's assumptions were correct, as doing all examinations took him 4 months.
When he arrived to the Aren, Dezen first checked the assignments, looking for one about killing people. He didn't find any, so he asked Zan about it.
He told Dezen that he can just come straight to him, and he will inform him if there is any, what will save some of the Dezen's time.
Then, Zan took Dezen to Derek's office, where, like always, he sat on a big, comfortable armchair.
- Examinations are deeper, but only on these 7 creatures, since I don't know how much it will be worth. I also found out the second flaw of necromancy, and the real potential of giving undead, magical resources.
Derek didn't expect to hear such thing, thus he became intrigued, and curious what they are. Because of it, he decided to wait with checking the examinations, to first hear about them.
- Could you tell me about them now?
- The flaw is that necromancy makes your memory, and ability to pay attention to things happening around you, worse. The stronger you are, the worse it gets, but it works only with things that are not very important to you. Or that are not easy to spot, or something like that, when it comes to noticing things. I am not sure how to express correctly. I guess you have a way to deal with it. I want to buy it.
- I can make it free, as part of buying space magic. Now, tell me about that potential.
- Last time I was at the Aren, I bought a big amount of nature magical resources, which I gave to 2 of my undead trees. They absorbed them, gaining the ability to heal, and support living beings. They can have more abilities, that I don't know about.
Derek whispered.
- Ability to heal and support living beings...
He was thinking about for a few minutes. Dezen was observing him, but his facial expression didn't change a bit, and so he couldn't read anything from it.
- I assume you know how useful it will be.
- Yes, but not entirely. The true effects are unimaginable.
- These abilities also work on undead, so you can freely replace human soldiers with them.
- Yes.... - Derek started thinking about such possibility, about its upsides and downsides, before he remembered about the most important part. - How many magical resources does it cost? For that enslavement undead, you used dozens, if not hundreds of Royal ants, although they are weak, it is a lot of them for the effect you got.
Dezen told Derek the amount of magical resources he used, and then added. - I created a spell, usable during that process, making it faster and more efficient.
- You have prepared well. And now, you want to negotiate the price of space magic?
- Yes.
- Number of examinations will be lowered. Let's say 12. Alternatively, you can examine more, and buy additional magic, along with knowledge about it. For instance, we can give you plaque magic and a way to deal with it, using that magic alone.
- Plaque magic? This would be convenient for me, as I have a few ideas for using it. How many beings will I have to examine?
- 5.
- And can I buy more magics?
- You can, but the price will not be lowered.
- How many?
- 7 creatures, mostly. But it can be higher, depending on the usefulness of the magic.
- It is... Not as expensive as I thought it will be.
- You are the only one providing such service, thus you will be paid highly. Even if we do not have use of everything you give us.
They both talked for a few more minutes, before Derek asked.
- Now, before I start reading these examinations, I want to ask you if you could improve that spell, helping undead absorb mana from magical resources?
Dezen understood that it is unsaid part of the payment, and besides this, he was planning to do this anyway, thus he said he will do this, before leaving Derek's office.
While waiting for Derek to end, Dezen bought more knowledge, earth magical resources, and talked with Zan.
After 4 hours Derek ended, they both talked about formal matters, and then Dezen went back to his village.
The next creatures to examine will be transported to him via teleportation station, which will be built in a few days.
When he came back, he gave earth magical resources to one of his undead wolves with changed shape, and then started creating enchanted items.
The knowledge he bought is about creating them, but he is still following his idea to develop by himself. Dezen just want to know how humanity developed this aspect, to not accidentally go the same path, and also know what he shouldn't do.
For instance, it contained structure of enchanted items, which looks properly, but has hard to find flaw, causing mana lose.
He focused on this, until bodies to examine were delivered to him. Then, he focused on them, along with making spells.
Dezen assumes that some spells, like the one helping undead absorb mana, will be worth more for Church of Alen, than his examinations, thus he wants to make and sell them, while he can still do this. When he sells necromancy, necromancers from Church of Alen will surely develop faster than he, making Dezen selling spells a joke. However, it will take time, until they reach that level, and buying completed spells will save some of it, what should be a tempting proposition.
