Chereads / First Necromancer / Chapter 11 - Chapter 11

Chapter 11 - Chapter 11

Every magic comes from soul, which is source of its (magic's) mana. All mages and most of normal people know it.

Normally, using multiple magics doesn't create any sort of conflict between them, since they can't.

To create one, they would have to strongly affect the soul, and it's unheard for magic to do this.

However, Dezen have reason to think, that his magic is unique in this regard, maybe even the first magic in the world which does it. Dezen couldn't be sure, because some magics can be hidden from other people, by its creators, and there are surely countries he doesn't know, nor magics which are used at them.

Said reason, was Dezen's connection with his undead.

Creating undead makes a kind of mark in his soul, which lets him feel them, and give orders.

It is it unique, because these marks are small changes in his soul, what means necromancy can affect souls.

- I see no other reason, so it is highly possible that necromancy is responsible for making learning new magic so long... I hope that in return, it gives some big benefit, like it makes improving my soul easier, or lets me affect other people's souls.

Dezen fell silent for a moment.

- Well, now I have assumption, even good, but it gives me nothing. Not even hope to solve this problem. I can't make that conflict weaker. Not now.... But maybe? I can try to do this in the future, when my knowledge about souls and magic will be bigger, but I can also try to do this now.

Dezen started wondering what he possibly needs to do, to achieve this.

- Probably the first thing I have to do is try to somehow examine my soul. Conflict, or whatever it is, happens there, so I should "find" it, and then find out how it works. Maybe knowledge about how soul works will be useful too? But making such researches will take months, and should I delay modifying wolves for so long? I can spend time on researches about souls and making spells to modify them, I just how to decide how much time I will spend on each of them. Alternatively, organizations, like Church's should make researches regarding souls, but they won't give it to me, unless I join them and become someone important. Probably.... So many things to do and think of.

Dezen started massaging his temples and thinking, what he has to do.

- Okay, so I want to learn enslavement magic, it should make that conflict, let's say it's conflict, not something else, stronger. Strengthening it, will probably make it easier to examine, since it will be more "visible". Gathering knowledge about it, and about my soul, should help find a way to weaken, or, in the best case, get rid of it. To examine my soul and find out, how it works, the first thing I have to do, is become stronger as a mage, to the point where I can improve my soul, probably. I can also try to make spells, which will help me examine my soul. Besides this, I want to create spells modifying undead. I can improve as a mage by creating spells, so it will serve two purposes.

Dezen started thinking what else he can do.

- I can try to improve my other spells, it helps me develop. And that's it, I think. Time to get to work... What about going to the city? Should I do this with the rest? The route should be safe, it always was, and the Church of Alen will probably kill or destroy whatever makes it dangerous for its followers. So nor Alex nor other people will need my protection. At least, I hope they won't. Going there, isn't so important now, and I can do this during any other part of the year. It will only slow down my researches about souls and development.

Dezen tried to deeply think about his current situation, and whether he should, or not, go to the city.

- It's not worth it now. I will just send an undead wolf or 2 with Alex. I have to tell him it. And what he should say if someone from church asks about me.

Dezen left him room, and started looking for Alex.

He found him after 1 minute.

- Alex, I won't be going with you to Aren, I found some serious flaw of necromancy, or rather I have some problem and I think it's caused by necromancy. Anyway, I will be trying to get rid of it, or weaken it, and going to the city is not worth stopping my attempts to do this. I will go there another time, with you, if you want to.

- Ohh, such a pity. And what's that problem?

- I tried to learn enslavement magic, and takes much more time than it should. I guess it is caused by necromancy. If someone from Church of Alen asks you why I didn't come, just tell them I found serious flaw of necromancy and I try get rid of it. Or no, tell them I found a flaw of necromancy, and I try to develop despite it.

- Why should I say it?

- Despite being a serious flaw, it is also beneficial for me. I wanted to make necromancy some "weak" magic, something not worth attention, because becoming a strong necromancer needs a lot of time and effort. But now, that I have this "conflict", it is enough. Who would want magic with flaw, if other magics are flawless? But saying that I am looking for a way to get rid of it, may encourage some mage to learn it, and look for me to get that way. And saying that I want to develop despite flaw, sounds like I don't have a way to do this nor idea how to achieve it.

Alex thought about for a moment, before he said.

- But will it stop them from coming to you, to look for a way to get rid of that "conflict" as you called it? Other mages will probably think that you are looking for it too, and since you are the first necromancer, they will also think you are the closest to it. In the future, they may also think that you already have it, so that flaw won't stop them from learning necromancy.

Dezen went silent, thinking about what Alex said.

And Alex thought that what he said was too complicated, so he tried to explain it in a simpler way.

- I mean, if someone wants to learn necromancy, because so, or someone sees potential in it, they will come to you, in hopes of finding a way to get rid of that flaw. There will be just fewer people, who wants to learn necromancy.

- It's better than nothing. I will just have to deal with them, and I was ready to do this.

***

Dezen spend over 2 months on creating 2 new spells modifying bodies of undead, and improving his spells.

In this way, he developed not only as a necromancer, but also as enslavement mage.

It is because development of mage, means development of soul, and soul is source of mana and lets mage use magic. Thus, if mage has multiple magics, and trains only one of them, others will develop too, just less that magic which was trained.

Besides this, he also trained enslavement magic, by controlling enslavement mana more and more precise, and created 2 spells from enslavement magic.

First is the simplest enslavement spell, Enslavement, which he used to enslave queen of the Royal ants.

The second spell is used to slow down thoughts of target, what makes enslaving them easier.

Now, after 2 months he finally can improve his soul with mana. It even surprised him a little, because usually it takes over a year to be able to do this. Dezen was wondering if it is possible thanks to how much he trained, or thanks to necromancy.

First thing he was looking for that conflict. Dezen could see his soul, it looked like light brown, transparent mass, which contains two different energies, fog, he wasn't sure how to call it. That mass wasn't looking like him, not even like human. The closest shape similar to it was shape of coffin. When he focused on what's around him, Dezen saw infinite mass of white, bright light.

After focusing on these "fog", one green, and one white, he saw that the white one is like infected by green one.

Seeing it, Dezen thought.

"Necromancy... So it like infects another magic, making its development harder. Can it get rid of another magic if the one which is infected, isn't developed? I hope not, it would mean that developing will be even harder, because not only necromancy makes it slower, it also destroys part of gains, made by training. How should I stop it? Isolating each other? No, it would mean that developing necromancy won't develop enslavement magic, and it is too good. And from what I know, developing necromancy does it. If it does, does it destroy development of another magic?"

Dezen made puzzled expression.

"It should mean that it doesn't. Hopefully."

Dezen sighed.

"I will have to give up on this benefit. If I don't do this, I can still develop as enslavement mage, just training as necromancer, but it will be good only at the begging. Later I won't be able to become strong enslavement mage. Well, not that I really want to, but it would be such a loss"

Dezen started to think how he can isolate magics. Fir some reason, information that development as a mage, means development of souls, and development of soul means development of every magic possessed, was stuck in his head.

After a minute, realization hit him, and he thought, full of joy.

"Wait.... I just isolate magics from each other, not from soul, so it means, that if I continue to develop my soul, what I do by training as a mage, I will also develop all magics I have."
